Glad to see we are rating the relevance of monsters based on the quality of the movies they are in, despite the mythos surrounding them pre-dating cinema by, I don't know, centuries? But I digress.

Game looks pretty neat, a little Orcs Must Die in execution which I am cool with, and the motif (Canadian wildnerness) is certainly not run of the mill. And it came out 2 months ago, which is why I couldn't find it on the Steam new release list.

And Vinny took the lead on this one, which is just the best.

I think that the problem people have with it is the way he has reacted over jokes like the Dead Island torso. If you are going to make a joke that can be offensive to some then don't be offended when someone else does the same. Nobody likes double standards.

No, what is happening is that the internet is becoming a nicer place to be if you are not a white straight male. If you have to "censor" your thoughts to make this happen, that says quite a lot about you. When I come to this website, I come to have good times with video games, not to be told that rape is better if it is straight rape.

He made a remark at how many priests are pedophiles and rape boys. And this is a statement I actually agree with from patrick, even if I usually don't like him.

If priests stopped raping little boys (and girls maybe?) we would never be having this discussion!

I think you guys have blown Patrick's priest joke out of proportion. The appropriate response to to either chuckle or groan. I did a little of both, but I'm also a terrible person.

It's funny because it's Patrick getting unreasonable backlash. Of course a joke is a joke. But he's written opuses about sillier things than this. Now he's the one being critiqued. Gold.

Yeah, his essay-length, well-supported articles about inherent (often ignored/denied) gender bias within videogames and that's EXACTLY as silly as an off-handed joke in a quick look.

It's a fake Videogame church. It's not affiliated with the Jewish, Christian, or Muslim faith. So chill out!

Well, nothing is ever EXACTLY the same. I just wanted to point out the dissonance between him taking people to task for some apparent "sexism" and him making a joke that is at least in part derived from gender differences (boys are more likely to be molested by priests).

Just as his joke is not sexist, the entire gaming community that he critiqued in his essays is not sexist (just majority male, which is NOT sexist by itself).

Of course he's a writer and it's his job (or part of his job) to write articles, so he does it a lot better than random internet commenters.

Yeah, well, maybe you should stop comparing deliberately executed marketing campaigns and productions with a random person saying the first thing that comes to his mind in a conversation on the Internet. Jokes are jokes. Some people find some jokes funny solely because of shock value. Ever hear a 9/11 joke? "Congratulations to Whitney Houston on one year of sobriety"? Those are not some kind of agenda. Those are not things that someone constructed in order to manipulate other people for profit. They're things that come to people's minds, at which they can't keep themselves from laughing from the absurdity of even thinking such a thing, so they share it in hope that others can also find the humor in it.

If you can't tell a spur-of-the-moment joke apart from a marketing campaign or a long-running negative trend in media, you have bigger problems to worry about than how a person playing a video game on the Internet decides to act.

Now excuse me while I go watch some stand-up comedy involving running one's own mother over with a steamroller, without finding it profoundly disturbing and counter-productive to the entire human condition. Or does that make me a disgusting hypocrite because I openly condemn murder elsewhere on the Internet?

@rox360: I love offensive humor. I wasn't offended by Patrick's comment. I don't really care either way about that comment. All I'm saying is that people are reacting to Patrick in the same way he reacts to the rest of the industry: extremely.

and seriously people? the reason i like GB is that its just a couple of dudes joking around and playing games they like. to make a big deal out of a single totally non offensive joke? He makes a joke about an event that was big news a YEAR ago (priest child abuse thing remember?) and some people feel it is their duty to act like a humourless saint.

@rox360: Except the joke Patrick made was at the expense of the real life suffering of others (child molestation by priests). The marketing campaign was a silly piece of memorabilia from some zombie game. And the biggest problem with it was that the zombie was formerly female and wore a bikini. Fucking ridiculous the more you think about it.

Yes it was stupid marketing, but if I had to condemn one of these (and I would never condemn either) it would be Patrick's joke, because it touches on actual real life issues.

I just want to say, Underworld is a good movie.

@bisonhero:The other brother is basically hardcore mode he's sickly and has less health and I believe slower reload time and less stamina. The hanging traps can be super effective but the AI is built as such that their fairly difficult to get off and too expensive. What you end up sticking to is the bait and regular wolf traps with bonfires at all the main locations. The spike traps are too expensive and you'll often have the creatures just running around them, as I think Vinny experienced in this video, and there are some enemies later on that just fly over them.

I just want to say that all the people complaining about Patrick's joke are coming across a little sensitive to this. I understand that in reality it is a serious issue and shouldn't exist, however it should be obvious he was making a joke. Usually when someone makes a joke that you judge as a bad, you don't get up in arms about it, you just move on. Give the man a break.

Really neat concept. However, still doesn't stop me from not being interested, as I really can't abide tower defence in any form.

The problem is that the majority of the gaming community aren't male (or if it is a majority, it is a SLIM one), it's just assumed/treated as such, which leads to insanity like the devs of Remember Me having to fight tooth and nail for their female protagonist to have a love interest because the publisher thought males playing as a female would be creeped out by having their avatar kiss another male character. Or Naughty Dog having to basically pull every bit of their clout to get Ellie, the ostensible protagonist of the game, on the cover of Last of Us.

I don't recall Patrick even calling the "majority" of the community sexist, just that they had problems with sexism that, for some reason, a sub-section (a VERY vocal one) don't even want to entertain the notion of. I don't think there's THAT much, if any, dissonance there.
