As someone living in Australia seeing the regional matching options in this makes me pretty bummed with the lack of options available in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer... playing internationally is a universally crap time in that game but the only way around it is to play with friends. Not trying to draw comparisons of the importance of a low ping for fighting games vs wave based survival, just felt i needed to have a rant after seeing the 'same area' search option in a collection of old fighting games that Sega put out.

Aw yeah! Let the action begin!

I love games of this vintage! They're just so... unique looking. So much overreaching ambition with regards to early 3D. So much blockiness. They came out looking stylized despite attempting realism. They truly don't make 'em like this no more.

And Sonic the Fighters is one of my favorite games ever. No joke. Jeff and Ryan attacked it with the perfect attitude; it's dumb fun. Great 90's vibe throughout though, including an awesomely "Sega" soundtrack. It's simplistic, and it doesn't go nearly far enough in it's attempt to "make a Sonic fighting game" - it's certainly no Super Smash Bros.-like reinvention of fighting game conventions to better suit these mascots. Visually though, it's super on-point. For the first time Sonic appears in 3D (I think), it perfectly captures the look of the Genesis games. And the squash-and-stretch was really well done and really lent it that great cartoony vibe.

Overally, it's just weird and colorful and fun, especially in 2 player (the braindead AI is not very compelling to fight). A true "Blue Sky" game for all ages, and loaded with the Sega "90's Flash" that made all their arcade games stand out. Played it on the Sonic Gems Collection, which I still pop in from time to time to play this and Sonic R with my sister. Glad to see it revisited here alongside Fighting Vipers and VF2. Gonna have to drop some $5's in the Playstation Store this week, I see...
