Quick Look: Silent Hill: Downpour

yay finally. I've been waiting for this for a while now.

I've been looking forward to the Downpour QL since I saw some footage of it last week.

SIlent Hill 2 is still better. Deal.

I'm pretty stoked that this finally came up, I've wanted to see what's up with this game for ever. Or, y'know. Two weeks.

im the EXACT same as Ryan with loving horror movies, hating horror games, and i have no idea why. Horror games just stress me out in a way no movie does

SUBTITLES please! I kinda wanted to know what they were saying in the game to see how the situation was working out. especially if its just showing a cutscene/non-playable moment.

I have the same problem. I don't find horror movies scary at all, but I can barely play Bioshock, not to mention something like Dead Space.

I think it's the interactivity, I get so immersed in the world and being the character I get freaked out by the slightest jump scares. Totally different than movies.

Been following a Let's Play of this. It doesn't seem bad at all, really. Sure, combat sucks and it has some performance issues, but it's been enjoyable to watch for sure.

I liked Homecoming.

I still have no idea why people give Silent Hill 4 so much shit. Okay, I admit it had quite a bit of bad design choices but goddamnit if it didn't have the most unique and awesome story in the series.

For Downpour, I'm definitely checking it out.

Weird knowledge on the SH-mythos in this QL. 2 has no connection to 1 and 3.

i always thought the combat was meant to be crap in these games so that you are more worried and panicking as some monster thing attacks you

You and me both, man. Even ones that aren't that scary, like Shadows of the Damned, can get me going "...but... that's creepy..."

they didn't play enough of it to come to any conclusion, so far as I can tell.

That game looks cool. They seem to have made their judgement about it before giving it a chance.

I still prefer Cypress Hill to Silent Hill:

Siren blood curse has pretty shit combat too, though the stealth was pretty decent.

Dunno what to feel of this new silent hill.

What? Patrick said he plays through every Silent Hill game, which is much more than most of these games rightfully deserve. How does that warrant a "Fuck Patrick?"

haven't silent hill monsters always become incapacitated? Then you need to finish them off while they're down to get your radio to shut up.

if you like silent hill you have to buy this. this is really awsome. the combat is alittle boring, it has some framerate issues and you sometimes get stuck on the environment, not so you cant move but just enough that you cant walk along a wall by pushing against it with out getting stuck some times.

the game is about 8-14 hours depending on doing sidequest or not

the very best thing about this game is if yo choose easy/normal/hard puzzle they are handled differently, the answer is different and items are placed in diffecent places.

the story is awsome. but granted its not the best silent hill game

and the best part of the hole game is the "otherworld"

basicly i liked it so much that i played it though 4 times. the 4th time i completed it in about 2 hours and 15min

I liked Silent Hill 4.

This is the most generic, boring, and dumb Silent Hill yet. This game is even worse than Homecoming. I am ashamed I own this game.

Also, who fights every single monster they come across in Silent Hill?

They were incredibly harsh with this one. I mean, ya it's not as good as the originals (or the benchmark Silent Hill 2) but Downpour is still better then other iterations of Silent Hill that didn't seem to get it at all.

This game isnt that bad. It's a shame they didn't show much of it, but they showed enough to see a small part of it. There's "side quests" in this too- I'm still not sure what to say about those other then I've not finished any of them yet.

This totally did seem kind of like they had already made a judgement on this game before playing much of it, but I also haven't played it so I dunno. Also you guys should check out Lone Survivor, it's kinda like a Sidescrolling silent hill game? It's pretty awesome. http://www.lonesurvivor.co.uk/ The smaller games on PC seem to have taken up most of the horror stuff. I will still be getting this because it didn't seem as bad as they were making it out to be.

Like so far as I can tell their thought process on this game is:

"This game has you roaming around an empty city shrouded by fog with no clear objective! and the combat is real bad"

(like in Silent Hill 2 which they acknowledge is a classic)

"man this game sucks."

I'm not saying that this game looks great. I thought that roller coaster ride type thing looked really silly and out of place, for instance. I'm just saying that they'd barely started the game, so saying "DON'T BUY THIS GAME" seems premature on their part.

This doesn't seem great and I'm a huge SH fan. Also bummer to hear about the problems with SH HD for PS3, how do you mess up a HD collection?

Poor combat kind of makes survival horror games better. Love Dead Space, but I never feel threatened in those games because the combat is good.

Yeah, got a chuckle out of that one too. "Rollercoaster....horse drawn carriage? Not quite sure..."

Also, Patrick continues tooling around. "Bros, I LOVE Silent Hill, but this game is a crime against humanity. So says my 1 hour of total playtime with it".

OK I don't complain that much but Patrick talks way too much thank god Ryan asked to turn on the subtitles

I'm sorry, but it seems like Patrick and Ryan went into this Quick Look with the intention of completely shitting on it. The game looks good, in my opinion.

I'm the opposite of Ryan, horror movies scare the shit out of me and I tend to have nightmares for a while. But with horror video games it's different because... I know it's just a game?

This face still haunts me from time to time.

The series should have ended with SH3.

I'm getting some weird Bright Falls/Night Springs vibes off this Silent Hill.
