Honestly, I think Silent Hill should just die as a franchise. The games have become too different from each other and mostly too low in quality. Konami needs to either kill it or take a few years off and spend some time making a quality game instead of handing it off to some Western developer.

What is with this expectation that franchises should die after one or two bad games? Downpour was an amazing game that made up for the disastrous Homecoming.

Amazing? It was pretty good, probably the best since it left team silent, I like shattered memories but the puzzles were soooo bad. Downpour got some interesting things going on but the creature design is terrible and the games performance? Oh man, I cant speak for the 360 version but the PS3 one is a techical mess, so bad that it really affects the experience.

Fuck you, Konami.

Actually the PC version doesn't have as thick fog as the PS2 version. Doesn't have as good shadows either. Got a better flashlight flare but that's it... But you can of course force anti aliasing and play in 1080 which makes it awesome, textures are also the same on both platforms. But really unmodded, the ps2 version is the best looking. PS2 > xbox/pc>>>>>>collection

At least we hear one unobstructed word out of Angela (to James: "Lost?"), and it actually sounded pretty good. :(

I love all the giantbomb guys but is it really necessary to open a quick look by saying the game is nit very good, especially when you are playing it on the worst platform for it. In addition, Siren Hill Blood Curse has some serious problems of its own, just saying

I would have bought this if the port wasn't so completely fucked up. Konami probably just had 1 programmer porting it or something... Do it properly or don't do it at all.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one annoyed by them talking during the cut-scenes.

I'm sorry but the point of a quick look is to go into the game and look at its features and I feel at was not done here. The thing they skipped over or should I say talked over was the new voice acting and I wanted to get information on how well they did and I guess I'll have to look that on my own.

also, Patrick you play silent hill for only it atmosphere and not the story, then your not a fan of silent hill your a fan of horror games.

Is it just me, or was anyone else never super impressed with the Silent Hill series? I never enjoyed playing them as much as they pissed me off and I wanted to destroy the levels. I can't play them in the dark though, so I guess they met that mark with me.

Man, tehe Silent Hill White Knighting in here is kind of nuts. This game "collection" is shit and lazy. People who are buying this are bad and should feel bad.

Seems like the time and the place for this series, and for me to play this series, has come and gone. I was too young when 2 and 3 came out to really appreciate them, and now that I'm actually interested in picking them up, this remake does not do them any justice. I might seek out the PC versions of the games at some point or another though, because I do feel like I'm missing out being a horror fan and having not played either of these games. 3 in particular looked like it was holding up pretty well, atrocious frame rate aside. I really keep wishing that they'd just make another good game in the series, but aside from Shattered Memories, which I loved, I just can't justify paying for these games when people keep shitting on them so much

At the time I never thought anything bad about the combat in Silent Hill 3. I got so good with the sledgehammer, knife, and katana that I rarely got hit. I had so much ammo toward the end of the game that it turned into a shooter. The playthroughs after that were all Sailer Moon style.

Also, quick looks haven't really been about going in and showing off the game's features for a while. It tends to be them playing around for a while, going on a joke tangent, and then giving a quick, barely-thought-out reaction to what they've done so far. And I love them for it.

More related, the fog in 2 makes that game look boring now. Not mysterious, just dull. I'd also never heard Akira Yamaoka's score in this series, and it's awesome. That holds out well.

@bombastius: exact same for me. i am good for one-save-point-to-save-point in SH2 and I couldn't finish amnesia.

@gavingt: I'm not defending the game I think its a poor HD port. nothing visibly changed and what they did change does not look good but I was interested in are the new voice actors they hired and how well they did which was not even talked about besides "they are there".

Really hate how they hate Patrick pretending he loves and knows the series but can barely comment on it in detail and rely on what other people said about the game. Brad is sorta there and has no idea about any of it and is sorta just tagging along.

This was an insult to me as a SH fan more then the SH HD Collection.

Pants collection. After beating SH2 on this thing, I would have told you the complainers were being over-dramatic. Sure, the fog looked like shit, but it played just fine. Rose-tinted glasses, and all.

SH3, on the other hand, was just a disaster in places. Lip syncing so bad, cut scenes took up 20 seconds to catch up with what was being said. The game also ran at a unlocked FPS, so performance was all over the place. Remember the part in SH3 where you revisit the same location in SH2? Yeah, total slide show, and what's worse, the performance dips are apparently random.

I'm glad I got this collection beat, and its all over with. I shouldn't being taking this outlook with a hobby I'm supposed to enjoy, but I'm actually feeling quite guilty about buying this POS collection. THE HORROR.

Needless to say, the two games hold up in their own right, and SH2 is still a classic. Just go buy the originals.

These are old games. Anything that can be said about the games themselves has been said by fans and non-fans for years. This is a new collection of those old games, so the quick look (I feel) rightly focuses on the technical issues that keep this from being a good/faithful port of these games, which people like you hold so dear.

It makes sense that it has framerate problems considering the PS3 is less powerful than the PS2...no wait what? That makes no sense.

You'd have to be pretty dedicated to get through a Silent Hill game, that kind of person probably doesn't see the appeal of waggling a wiimote around so avoided buying a wii and therefore Shattered Memories. 

Wish they talked more about what was happening in the game and stopped going on about shattered memories and their pitch for a new silent hill game.

Does anything actually happen in this Quick Look? This might as well have been a podcast, 'cause it was just a lot of talking about stuff that's not even happening in the game, and Patrick standing around in the amusement park trying to get killed by a dog instead of progressing through that area of the game (he could've just fell into a hole and immediately died like I did my first time, lol).

Also, yeah, talking over the cutscenes, and then when nothing is actually happening, complete silence.

So, what I'm saying is: Silent Hill 2 Endurance Run! :P

I don't normally get angry at Quick Looks, but please, if you are going to crap all over a series particularly as it relates to mythos then you should at least know what you are talking about. It is incredibly annoying as a giant fan of Silent Hill 1-3 (not so much anything after that) hearing both Patrick and Brad running their mouth when they clearly have no idea what they are speaking about.

These games have more fog than Turok on the N64!

You couldn't just up-res Silent Hill 1, but there's no reason to omit one of the remakes. Silent Hill: Origins or Silent Hill: Shattered Memories should've been on this disc for sure. Konami is lazy.

Fanboys will be fanboys I guess. I at least thought they did the best they could with the material they were given.

Just bought this and enjoying sh2 as much as the original, haven't had the chance to try 3. I also have not encountered any glitches they point out. Seems like they've forced themselves to find bad sides about the games, but that's just my opinion.
