Quick Look: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Man, this looks (and runs) really bad. It's a pity that the best Spider-Man game is still on the PS1.

Wow this game looks so bad, some of those character models are really something.

The news report was a little weird, but I could totally see a backlash develop if a superhero doesn't save everyone all the time. People need someone to blame and social media would just make that easier.

Wow, the first "Amazing" game wasn't great, but it was serviceable and didn't play even close to as clunky as this looks.

This game looks like blatant mediocrity punctuated with clown shoes crazy dialogue. The graphics look like dog shit filtered through the digestive tract of a very sick dog.

The web swinging in Spider-Man 2 was amazing. After beating the game I would just swing around the city. It had this same system where you had to shoot the web onto a building, but it looked a lot smoother than this game.

I know it's fairly early on in the next generation, but for an Xbox One game this looks awful. Jesus.

I expect a movie tie-in to be a little cruddy (it's almost part of the appeal), but... gosh... this looks like absolute trash.

Huh, I don't think this game is getting a Vita release (the first Amazing Spider Man did). Kinda weird to have that touch screen optimized interface then.

In my defence; I'd just finished watching it at the cinema when I ordered it.

This game looks dreadful. All the characters look like they are upgraded PS2 models. Playing the game Spiderman plays like a pile of crap. Why have they destroyed the mechanics the worked so well in the previous games.

Man, this plays and looks almost exactly as the previous game. So much so that I even wonder what they did in those past 2-3 years.

I'm gladly going to skip this one.

thank god... we can all rest easy now, knowing that the tried & true tradition of third-rate, cheaply made movie tie-in's (while commanding a premium price) has successfully made the jump to next gen consoles. was worried there for a moment...

Videogames and comic books (movies in this case, but the point stands) SHOULD go together like nutella and bananas...instead they go together like babyback ribs and peanut butter...and that flows both ways, comic books based on videogames are ALSO generally garbage.

Just wanted everyone to know that the web "physics" are a complete lie. I tested it--the webs do not attach to surfaces, they simply deactivate the ability to 'swing' if you're not within a certain proximity of a building wall. The webs do still fade into the sky, and it doesn't take long to run into many situations where it's pretty obvious.

EDIT: I wanted this game to be good. I really did. I was prepared to make all sorts of allowances for time/budget, because I felt like Beenox had the ability to make something truly enjoyable. But the PS4 version is hideous, and the gameplay is so sloppy that I felt genuinely insulted. Fuck Beenox and their one fluke success.

Well this looks decidedly awful. I haven't been this nauseous watching a quick look since, well, ever. This seems to be a case where delaying the game to time with the DVD release might have been a smart move.

There's a level of quality here that is not Big Rigs by any stretch, but somewhere around Silicon Knights development quality.

Kinda wish they had just done with this game what they did with the first ASM game, which was set it after the events of the movie so they had carte blanche to do whatever they wanted. This game seems to be heavily tied to the upcoming movie in the way old shitty movie license games used to be; it's basically the plot of the movie but with none of the actors voicing the characters and extra villains thrown in to pad out the story run time. Makes sense, I guess, considering what I assume will be heavy spoilers for the ASM2 movie if this game were to be set after the events of the film.

Developers of open world games: the whole fucking point of open world games is player freedom and open world jank. The more you try to script the action, the worse your open world game will be. Your job as an open world designer is to set things up in such a way that your world reacts to the player in entertaining/exciting fashion on its own.

Just Cause 2 is a good open world. This thing that you have made right here, this is not.

these games have always been kind of a guilty please for me since the spider-man 2 for the gamecube. I know that most of the games are for the most part of broken or pretty buggy, but I honestly really love swinging around the city and getting the collectibles and looking at all the costumes. Ill probably end up getting this like I did the last one but only when its at a significant sale.

At some point, Beenox should have the Spiderman license taken away from them.
