I did actually like the 2nd Spider-man game. 1st one wasn't bad either....it wasn't the best neither but this looks really entertaining, even with the rapid button smashing of the X button.

Sigh, I kept on thinking how a Rocksteady open world Spiderman would be the best shit ever all throughout this quicklook.

Because Rocksteady totally has a huge and impressive history of making open world games, right? Come the fuck on.

I am REALLY enjoying it so far. As far as the weird swinging on nothing thing you really forget about it and start to really enjoy it.

I hope someone gives these guys a chance at a real Arkham City-style Spider-Man game. I say this assuming that because this is a movie tie-in, they were on a tight schedule. That said, they nailed the animation and look of the Spider-Man world. Given more time, they might be able to fill out the mechanics more.

2 minutes in, Ryan finally touches the analog stick. I must say, they need a company meeting in which someone boringly goes through a Powerpoint entitled "Good Quick Look Practices", punctuated with teamwork exercises at the end.

PS Always been a pet peeve of mine, but what the hell is he grabbing on to when he's zipping down the middle of the road? The web looks fairly perpendicular to the ground, and the momentum would suggest he's grabbing onto something directly above him, despite there being nothing but open sky.

PSS Spiderbux will be worth 5 British pounds when he kidnaps the Queen!

  • Leave the Quick Look as is!
  • Its a Video Game!
  • Pounds ain't got shit on Spiderbux

To be fair, spidey always gets into trouble when he has to fight indoors. Then he gets thrown out of a window and Spider-man can really let loose. That or his rumbles are always in big roomy warehouses.

wow. I REALLY HATE that swinging animation. Why does he keep swinging one line and then flipping? It looks elegant, like, once. Then it's just annoying. It's the least efficient way to do that action and, more to the point, why isn't he using two hands and swinging George of The Jungle style?

I feel these games lose the comic book feel when they make you fight 700 generic dudes, Spiderman doesn't do that in the comic. Sure maybe he stops some crooks in the beginning of an issue (like 4 ata a bank not 50 in a warehouse), and maybe tangles with a SWAT team once. But the rest of the time its him swinging, dealing with personal stuff, and then fighting a real villain. The game just needs to be thought out a little better - add some persona 4 dating stuff, can he meet Mary jane in time or will she be pissed at you? I mean maybe a fight in a prison will have lots of guards, but a warehouse? No more of that. do more single boss battles and puzzles. Spiderman has like 100 you could pull from for small battles in place of these generic guys.

The flipping is driving me insane. It's like he's doing air ballet while swinging from his network of invisible Spider-rings.

@WilliamHenry: Arkham City is more of a hub than an open world. It's there to connect the different areas of the game that matter. It's peppered with a handful of "sidequests" and worthless collectibles, but there's little "open" about it.

@addictedtopinescent: There's this insane notion that because Rocksteady made a great Batman game they can make a great game out of any superhero, despite the fact that Batman is nothing like any other superhero and shoving any other character into that formula just wouldn't work. A Spider-Man game can't be like Arkham, a Superman game can't be like Arkham, a Ninja Turtles game can't be like Arkham. Also, I'm just super tired of Rocksteady being brought up every time a superhero game is mentioned. Arkham has also somehow retconned numerous other games out of existence and seems to be the only game mechanics are cribbed from, despite it taking most of its mechanics from elsewhere and simply improving them. Nothing personal.

I think someone needs to tell Activision that 3 Spider-man games in 21 months is pushing the limit of decency. I read in a review that this game also has a Batman-esque mechanic of lowering down on a web and grabbing guys silently; did Ryan know that or does he just dig beating dudes up old school?

I like that they have the WoS style Web bounce. WoS is still my fav Spidey game because of the fluidity of the combat, the subsequent games have tried to imitate that but they never quite got it.

The thing is, I can imagine the core of what made the Batman games great (the fluid combat traversal etc) to other Superhero's. Now I agree that Superman is completely different with the flying and eye beams and strength and whatnot, but they way Spiderman fights in the last few games is fairly similar to arkham's combat. Both are based in dodging and maintaining combos, plus batman's gadgets could translate into spiderman's web moves. Also Ninja Turtles is the same argument imo. Of course I'm only talking of the combat and the mechanics and not the tone of those characters and the lore.

Rocksteady has set somewhat of a standard a standard for superhero games, we can argue on whether the arkham games are worthy of it, but that's beside the point. Plus, I think it's kind of unfortunate that the Spiderman character is stuck being in annual games or movie tie-ins.

Has any Beenox Spiderman ever had actual swinging tech? I'm guessing Treyarch didn't want to share it, or they didn't ask. Which is weird because now most studios from a publisher borrow from each other e.g. Frostbite 2 in EA games.

People are butthurt that you cannot see where the spider web attaches to, because you know Spiderman is always paying attention to that , I think it looks fun I can see the indoor sections getting kinda repetitive but the outside is really cool.

Seems like a pretty good game, though I'm not as impressed as I was hoping to be.

I don't like how tall and lanky they've made Spiderman, and I hate the way he's hunched over all the time. Head up, shoulders back Spidey. Think about your posture.

I do like the look of the melee combat even if it seems a little wonky, and I like the feature of Spidey looking around the environment and the little yellow icons show where he could land and what he could interact with if he so chooses.

The one thing I worry about is the outdoor camera when he's swinging around the city. No it doesn't bother me that he shoots his webs into nothingness to get around, but I do feel that I could have a problem with motion sickness from all that jerky up and down movement of the tracking camera.

Not completely sold but I'm interested enough to find out more about the game.
