Looks like a lot better than Thief 3 at least. Not bad at all considering the original Thief games really don't hold up well at all these days. I'll give this a go when I have the time to pick up a new game.

I'm not gonna lie, I really like the setting and the atmosphere. Probably gonna hold off on it for a while though since I'm already getting LoS2 (another game that I hope is better than the reviews indicate). But yeah, in the end it's a relatively high budget stealth game which means I'll end up playing it down the line.

@village_guy: Yeah, it's sad that 3D stealth fans have to settle for things like this.

I guess there's an argument that paying them for a bad game is like petting a dog when it's misbehaving - sends the wrong message. Not buying it at all could likely be interpreted as a lack of interest in the type of game. It's difficult to feedback "there is an audience for a better version of this, thanks".

I don't know. People seem to think the bar is set so high but there really haven't been that many stealth games in the past several years, especially the sort of stay-in-the-dark type stealth that is specific to Thief. Splinter Cell I suppose but that series has been moving away from that direction as well.

Man, this looks reallllllly rough. Then again, I also really disliked Dishonored and Thief 3 (the only Thief game I've played).

@rmanthorp: And Rock, Paper, Shotgun really loved it. There are varying opinions across the board. People gave GTA 5 5 stars but then proceeded to have hours worth of complaints with the single and multiplayer, so clearly reviewers pick and choose when to ignore things. I've also noticed in many reviews stuff some people complain can be boiled down to, "Oh, so you just don't like Thief games." Look at how many people thought Dishonored was hot garbage and it was super fun.

Basically /opinions , but I don't let review scores determine the purchase of a game for me. If I did then I would miss out on some truly great games or I would get over hyped for some mediocre ones. People lambasted Thief 3 and it was pretty great too.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun, one of the more critical sites regarding this game during it's development, was actually pretty kind to it. What is universally agree is that the story is generic trash, and that there are a few issues, but that the gameplay is alright once you get used to it.

I dunno. I only played Thief 3, which is apparently the 'bad' one before this. I'll likely still check it out, and I hope I like it, but it is looking a bit rough. And being stuck on PC only, that, Castlevania and South Park are the only big releases for quite some time, so the drought might continue for me.

I really wish Dark Souls 2 released on PC at the same time as consoles.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for stealth, but I think this looks pretty decent.

Yikes. This looks Dishonoured level of bad. I was kind of tempted to pre-order it for the TF2 items, but not going to pay full price. Hopefully the items will stay with the game after launch and I can buy it for $5 during a steam sale for the items.

@crusader8463: Hush , Dishonored is a great game. Played it right after I finished Human Revolution and Absolution. Of the three Dishonored was IMO the most fun I've had with a stealth game in a long time.

Man I understand this is a stealth game and you are sneaking around at night the whole time, but man do I hate games like this where everything is black and dark. I can't find the fun in stumbling around for 10 minutes looking for the tiny little switch hidden in the dark you have to hit to move forward. Its not puzzle solving as much as an ability to see well in the dark. I don't like stealth games in general and watching this quick look makes me feel sorry for anyone who likes this game.

Brad, focus mode isn't why "thief purists" are angry. People are angry because it's a completely unnecessary reboot of a franchise on top of being a horrible game.

I can't say shit about the game but man, does that Leather texture on his hood look AMAZING.

Glad you enjoyed it, but I did not have any fun with that game. If I hadn't of been in my complete games you buy mood I never would have played it beyond the first hour or two. It was that bad to me.

Cancelled my pre-order, which is too bad. I was really hoping this would be good.

I disagree. I can run Battlefield 4 maxed out at 60+ FPS, and Splinter Cell Conviction still runs like messy garbage whenever I'm in an outdoors area.

I'm all for a new Thief game, but why was this a reboot and not a legit sequel? Also why does it look so bad? Super big bummer.

Why would they play the peasantbox version?

I have played 2 hours of it on Steam. Running a GTX770, i5 3.6 ghz, 8 gb ram and it is running and looking great on high settings. Benchmark was 58 fps which I am comfortable with. The game to me is fun, it will not be fun for everyone. I love Dishonored if that gives you any indication of my personal preferences. If you like stealth and stealing stuff I would give it a go seems great for me.

I was watching this thinking, this is very similar to Hitman Absolution. The forced stealth when it is far easier to just run through it and activate the checkpoint. And then I checked, and yes, both from SquareEnix. I'll pass.
