Quick Look: TrackMania 2: Canyon

I'm still a bit sad that there are no collisions in this. Trackmania started out as an unofficial remake or sequel to the 1990 classic Stunts, where you could crash rather spectacularly, still, I love how crazy this game is already, and the mere thought of having Vinny's insane editing appear in track intros ... make that happen!

Woah! It's TrackMania Nations Forever that's the free one. :) TrackMania United Forever is $39.99, though the latter comes with 6 environments to Nations' one.

It's an innocent mistake, but it's an important one to correct. :)

Anyway,

I hate to be that asshole, but does this have Ubi's persistant braodband requirement bullshit? I dunno about anyone else, but I'd hate to be in the middle of making my magnum opus map when it says "connection dropped, kicking you out."

I dunno, it works in a way. Yeah, it'd be cool to smack into dudes, but this way you don't have to worry about latency fucking people over. And you still have environment collisions, obviously... Without that, you'd have Big Rigs.

Also please do another one when people have had time to make even crazier maps.

This game looks amazing.

Wow the textures are so much better than the previous game.

Fuck Battlefield and Starcraft etc, this is reason for getting a PC

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I guess Jeff has played Trackmania all this time having no idea that it was such a central part of the game. You literally can't beat some of the higher medals on the harder tracks without drifting, and might not be able to even finish a lap in some of the much later tracks without it.

Good lord, does this game look fun. The sense of speed is amazing.

For something so ridiculous, this was the most boring QL ever.

Vinny was right in the last Bombcast- I'm tempted to get this partly just to see how far away from the track I can drive...

I really want to try this game and it's all GiantBombs fault.

@Branthog: Does it feel empty since you're not necessarily racing against other cars but just trying to beat the best time being set by another player in the track? I can see what the appeal is in this game since it essentially removes the frustration from racing with other cars with collision and hit detection in place. Players wouldn't have to worry about losing time due to being hit by another car and being overtaken. I guess that's why its called "track" mania and not "race" mania. The name itself is accurate since it is essentially a perpetual time trial with no real feedback from other players other than their ghost cars.

TM2 looks nicer then the 1st but man such a downgrade in the amount of content.

Anyone thinking of trying this I highly suggest trying out the free version "TM Nations" on steam first -- and if you like upgrade to "TM United"...you'll get a TON more game for the same price.

This is probably the most fun Quick Look I've seen all year. Jeff + Vinny is a tough combo to beat, especially when they're playing a game as awesome as Trackmania. And doing crazy stuff like driving MILES off the track (that was impressive).

The only thing that fucking sucked - and it REALLY fucking sucked - was that god damn 30 sec. Dead Island ad that PLAYS ALL THE FUCKING DAMN TIME ON GIANT BOMB NOW! GOD DAMN THAT FUCKING GAME! AND FUCK ZOMBIES! AND FUCK TECHLAND AND FUCK EVERYTHING ABOUT DEAD ISLAND!!!! STOP GIVING THAT AD!!!!!!!!!

I CAN'T WAIT FOR TNT!
