Oh man, highlight of this QL was when Vinny talked about Helix. Good Show that, started watching because it was on Netflix, but I kept watching because of Jordan Hayes.

@austin_walker I overslept for two of my end-of-year exams at university.

The first was during my first year. I'm not great at mornings, so I was really nervous about missing it, so I kept waking up in the night and checking my clock. At some point I'd picked it up and when I put it back down the battery had fallen out of the back, so my alarm never went off and I was woken by a phone call from a member of staff. Fortunately I was living on-campus and the exam was happening just around the corner, so I was able to throw some clothes on and get over there pretty quickly.

The second was during my final year. That time I'd just misremembered what day the exam was. Again, I was woken by a phone call from a concerned member of staff, but that time I was living in town, about a fifteen minute bus ride away from campus. I felt like a real fuck-up as I sat on the bus, impotently wishing it would go faster. Remarkably, the invigilator, who was also the tutor for my favourite module, and with home I got on well, stayed at the end to allow me to make up the time I missed. I'm very grateful that he did, though I don't remember whether I expressed that at the time. I'm also grateful that my university seemed to have a policy of calling students missing from exams.

Anyway, I passed with a 2:1, which I think was pretty good given what a disorganized moron I clearly was.

Speaking of "same", here comes the wave of cheap Nuclear Throne clones...

But can you honestly look at this and say that they weren't lifting from Nuclear Throne?

I mean all media kinda moves forward by copying what works and building on it but you're supposed to at least make it seem new.

I haven't played Nuclear Throne, but this seems like it's doing its own thing. Was there an ability to split and bounce projectiles back at enemies that's drawing the comparisons?

@luck702: Yeah, in Nuclear Throne melee weapons can reflect projectiles back at enemies, but for me it's the combination of the perspective, control scheme, oversized bullets and screen shake that give this a Nuclear Throne vibe. Personally, I think this game does a fine job of setting itself apart with the change in the gameplay loop and tone, but it definitely feels inspired by Nuclear Throne. Also, to be fair, from the Steam forums it sounds like this game was made by a dentist in his spare time, and Vlambeer has been developing Nuclear Throne for like 2 years.

Are kids really still saying "same"? Or I guess they're using it in a slightly different context now? I feel like people were already saying "same" in like 2000 or 2001, and by 2003 it was already being used sarcastically/ironically because it was already no longer cool. But that was also in the first person shooter communities so maybe it wasn't "the kids" saying it back then. Also the usage was more in response to text rather than an image.

Edit: Urban Dictionary has got my back. It has an entry going all the way back to 2003 with the usage I remember.
