Thursday Night Throwdown

Thursday Night Throwdown: 11/03/11

The Tricaster is back and Jeff couldn't be happier! That is, until a bunch of spiders show up.

It's Thursday night and it's time for you to go up against us in a weekly throwdown of decidedly humble proportions.

Wait, so now TNT is premium? Is it still free for people to watch live, though?

<- Not that it matters me me, note the bling. I'm just curious.

Ah, so the tricaster is back. The quality didn't seem up to snuff during the live broadcast, then again, I wasn't really paying attention and I probably didn't up the resolution, if any, to take advantage of its return.

@onan: On-site TNT archives have always been premium, at least as far as I remember.

@onan: The archives on this site are premium only. You can still view it live or on the Justin.tv archive for free.

Also, I'm sorry Brad! You just kept on running into me. <3

After watching the Battlefield 3 TNT (which had a great player), and this one, I really think Thursday Night Throwdown would benefit from finding someone that can actually play the game's muliplayer very well, even if it's not necessarily someone in the office (this would be a great way to implement the community). That way, the Giant Bomb crew can commentate without worrying about playing well in the game. Because honestly, it's always painful to watch multiple deaths as a result of stupid, bone-headed mis-sights or unfamiliarity.

I really do think the aiming in Uncharted 3 is worse than Uncharted 2. Not much worse.... but worse. Thankfully the environments are more open allowing greater use of physical takedowns. Enemies also don't have that much health. But the aiming is worse. I had little problem with Uncharted 2's aiming.... but there were sections in Uncharted 3 in which I almost threw down my controller in frustration (in particular, one gun battle in the "Settlement" chapter. You know what I'm talking about). I also dislike how they prioritized Drake's animation over the Player's control - sometimes Drake would do these little, meaningless animations that you just know were put in there to make it more "immersive" and "realistic", but do nothing except annoy me and make Drake more difficult to control.

Still - Love Uncharted 3. Great game. Wonderful game. Not as memorable or as exciting as Uncharted 2... but it's still an awesome game. Takes a while to get going though. Uncharted 3 only starts really picking up steam at the half-way point. The beginning sections of U3 are..... kinda boring or silly. Uncharted 2 was great throughout (except for those fucking blue guys).

I'd love to watch this on my iPad, but only the HTML5 stream is showing. I've been seeing a lot of variable video options and quality since the YouTube integration, hopefully the Top Men can find a methodology that works to ensure consistency at least.

I guess they changed back to the original format of TNT?

I really enjoyed the Gears 3 TNT with 5 guys from the office just playing Co-op together.

If you are logged in as a premium member the site should be in its mobile form which allows you to stream video off of the whiskey media sites.

I had the same thought during the last TNT, but then I thought of all the funny things we've witnessed because of their terrible players.

Yeah I don't watch TNT to see someone who is really good at the game, there are a whole bunch of JTV feeds that can give you that if you want. I was bored to death by the Battlefield 3 TNT, since Mike actually knew what he was doing and was actually trying to play the game. Honestly, that's why I don't like watching Brad play on TNT either, because he seems to actively avoid trying interesting things or having fun playing games.

How the fuck can Brad say he doesn't know whats different (if anything) from Uncharted 2 and 3 multiplayer? He reviewed the fucking game... More importantly why is it okay that they just ripped the multiplayer out of 2 and put it into 3.

Duders, from my experience, the frame interpolation thing kills a lot of the quick response times modern displays have. To the point where it affects gameplay (especially for fighting games) in a very bad way. I suggest you try and turn it off again, maybe then you don´t suck as much with the melee stuff! Just a friendly suggestion.. I know talking and playing blah blah, please don´t kill me, comments :D

I understand what you are saying, but I found the first 20 minutes (turned it off after that) terribly annoying to watch. Sure doing dumb stuff is funny, if you are actually trying things out. This was just running around like a headless chicken and getting killed all the time. Maybe it got better after that.

@jozzy: Fair enough, I didn't think this was a particularly good TNT, I just find these things are at their most boring when someone really cares about their performance in the game, rather than making a good show. This was why I was happy they had been varying the format up a bit with different kinds of games and game modes lately. I hope they get back to that eventually.
