I love this game, although the player base seems to be incredibly small. Usually about 20 something people whenever I'm on multiplayer.

Beef O'Brady's amazing comeback video on Gamespot sold me on this on the spot. This game is so fucking fun. It's great local multiplayer, an RTS with which you can hold tournaments with your friends and have matches that last less than 10 minutes. It's pure gold, and it's almost a shame that you can easily judge this book by its mobile-game art style cover. It looks great in action though, works very well when the game is being played.

@ares42: I think not. They were both just going for straight up destruction over any sort of defense. I haven't played the game but neither used that freezing tower which depending on the balance could stop an opposing player long enough for a counter attack. Put in that nuke thing while their towers are frozen and hit several mines with it and you could turn things around. Plus taking out ground beneath your opponent's mines while he or she is busy destroying your actual mines and towers could be really effective in turning a battle around as well.

Of course as Brad said, in Starcraft and other strategy games an early mistake can often end up deciding a match.

Can't say I'm all that into these small scale RTSes, but this seems like a pretty interesting hybrid of Herzog Zwei and Worms.

Both Jeff and Brad seemed somewhat into it when they did the most recent Worms quick look a couple of months ago.

@yummylee: This would be the perfect thing to play on UPF. The current multiplayer selection is getting a bit stale. They also need to play something that Jeff isn't extremely familiar with/good at. That has always felt unfair.

@raven10: The thing is, aggression starts too early for any tower diversity to matter. You build the first mines and then an attack tower and the fight starts. If you win that fight you're in a huge advantage since you can start attacking the opponents mines and just "mirror" whatever your opponent does and you will eventually win through eco. If you don't answer your opponents tower with a tower you instantly lose (so going for greed is a non-option, as shown in the QL), and if you go for the non-confrontation it's still first tower wins since it gives the initiative advantage.

The only way you will get any real strategy out of the game is if the bases are much further apart so each player gets the chance to develop some sort of strategy before the fighting starts.

Nope. Castlestorm was made by the guys that made the zen pinball games, Zen Studios. Cannon Brawl is made by Turtle Sandbox, and it is their first game. And by the looks of their website they seem to mainly be a team of 2 people.

That's the overall feel I got from this game after watching the Quick Look. Not for me, I guess.

I see you are trying to make a duo name thing happen but I need to stop you now cause those are horrible. Not just in general but in the combining of two names into four letters or less makes only a indecipherable word.

While winning an early encounter is a big advantage, it's almost like saying "well whoever zerg rushes better wins"

They didn't really get to explore most of the building types and strategies
