Unfinished: Halo 5: Guardians 01/14/2015

Hope this is good.

Never was interested in Halo as a whole but I will say this game looks fun and well made so far!

This looks so so so so good!!

The style is more colorful then 4, the balance is better, AR starts are actually viable. They seem to have learned from 4 and made the game modern but still have the arena shooter feel of the original trilogy!!

Wonder if we get to see some Heroes of the Storm this week, since it just entered Beta.

I've been having a blast with this BETA. It's very well balanced, very competitive, and very fun. 343 did a fantastic job IMO. Despite all these updates, it still feels very much like Halo.

excited for this. the sound in this seems amazing. having said that, i think the way the matches end with the spartans high fiving and gloating is pretty dumb and tonally inconsistent, moving closer to a bro-ier vibe

Is it just me, or does this audio remind anyone else of Mass Effect?

There was totally killcam in Halo 4, but for some reason it wasn't always enabled, so you hardly ever saw it.
Also, this looks really awesome and visually impressive and everything, and I do want to play it, but boy... those post-game victory animations are maybe the least "Halo" thing I have ever seen in a Halo game.

Haven't played halo since 3 but this game looks sick. The announcers voice sounds like something out of South Park though....

People with physical disabilities use sticky keys.

I love that Drew says hi to people when they start shooting at him.

I know they said that zooming doesn't increase accuracy, but I thought it was proven that it DOES?

What is up with console games and not just letting the player fully customize controls? Like, is that a weird technical problem thing, or do they just not........trust us?? with???something??

Watching a Call of Duty player try to play Halo is really funny! Come on Jeff, play more Halo!

Despite my initial misgivings about this game, playing the beta has revealed it to be extremely fun. It's very well-balanced, the movement is slower than Call of Duty/Titanfall, and SmartScope (ADS?) is really just a cosmetic change for the zoom function. Map design so far is really good and BreakOut mode is really intense.

Those victory animations are embarrassingly dudebro-y.

THIS! I can't play without them because of my extremely weak ass arms.

Also I am pretty sure that the announcer is actually the Master Chief, he is just speaking in a different tone.

Ghh.. I dont know.. this looks kind of lame and uninspired to me.
Then again, I've never found halo to be very imaginative.
And don't even get me started on the Red and Blue team logos and the victory animations.

I really wonder how much these changes will be appreciated. If at all.

As a huge Halo fan who has loved the multiplier in every single Halo game, I did not care for this beta one bit. Was super excited for this game, but now I will probably just play single player and be done.

Really liking this, wish I had been able to spend more time in the beta. Will try to cram as much time in as I can before it's over.

I did like the older Halo games bit giving it a little bit of Titanfall/CoD-ization doesn't seem to be hurting it. I'm sure purists are pissed, but...oh well.

Regarding sniping: I love sniping in games, but only on PC. I find controller too slow to line up a good shot with.

Part of the charm is the waiting involved, maybe you only get one good shot when an opportunity shows up. But it's so much more exciting when you do get it.

The game looks pretty good. I think that intro and outro cut scenes showing the red/blue team in multiplayer is pretty dumb. It's like they're saying "Yo man! we're MLG players! we're so cool" .

Apart from that though everything looks really nice.

Halo 4 had a killcam, yet another needless addition that doesn't mix with the franchise due to the fast paced arena gameplay. CoD benefits from a killcam because of it's slower pace, faster time to kill and more camping players, meaning a killcam would be useful. In halo the dude that just killed you has probably already died and re-spawned or is halfway across the map. A killcam also doesn't let you see the aftermath of your death, a plus of the franchise is seeing your body fly across the map or your last grenade detonate after your death, or even getting tea-bagged and having to just take it as you form a new nemesis. It just doesn't feel right in halo.

Can't disagree more with Jeff and drew. This beta and halo 4 feel more like bad call of duty mods than halo.

What a bummer.

That said I do enjoy all of the movement improvements (except sprint) and map notifications.

Ignoring the snarkiness, there are SEVERAL reasons why Drew and Jeff would take the developer's word at face value. For one, they have no reason NOT to take the developer's word at face value. For another, this is a 30-minute video which casually explores gameplay and allows the GB staff to offer their initial impressions -- you know, a "Quick Look". Lastly, this is not a Halo-centric website, and GB Staff don't have the motivation or reasources to dissect every minute detail in the latest Halo-type game -- not without being obligated to do the same with all their other game videos, which would defeat the whole purpose of "Quick Look" videos.

Sticky keys are for the disabled, if I remember correctly.

@assinass: I'm sure they haven't watched the video. Also, trusting devs when they talk about stuff like that isn't exactly a ridiculous thing to do.

Hearing Jeff talk about one of the key principals of Halo multiplayer (map/weapon control) like it was this weird thing that only weirdos do was fuckig bizarre.

I like how it tells you how much life you have life left as well as how long before it starts recharging.

Looks ok. This still using the Halo 4 engine? Doesnt exactly scream next gen to me. I think I will prob get this for the single player, but I think the new CoD impressed upon me that I just dont enjoy multiplayer anymore. Least not small spawn maps, which are most maps. Had kinda hoped we would see some larger map sizes with next gen :-/

Whenever I see a multiplayer FPS I remember how much I want to play a new Unreal Tournament.

I wasn't really feeling what I played of this and I mostly liked Halo 4 mutliplayer. Maybe if I get to play it on some bigger maps it will click, because all the maps in the beta feel too small and overly dense like COD maps are.

I have some good new for you. There's already a new UT being made right now. Unfortunately, I don't know all of the details (keep forgetting too look into it), but from what I've heard they've got a alpha or something for people to play and check out.

Why is Jeff playing and not Drew? He is obviously terrible at Halo multiplayer.
