Unfinished: Halo 5: Guardians 01/14/2015

With the multiplayer beta coming to a close, Jeff and Drew try and figure out how to do that dash attack thing.

I hope Drew and Alexis will do a stream where they play Halo 5 co-op for the extra-life when this comes out.

There are two things I think they need to change about multiplayer. One is the end of match win animation thing. It's pretty dumb and bro-y, and I honestly think it's terrible. And there is not count down after the intro, there's just a hard cut to gameplay with no buffer in between. So, maybe a 3 second countdown or something.

Other than that, the changes are what they are. The times are changing. If they made just another Halo game at this stage of the franchise's life, I don't know how it would hold up. The thing that gets me though is why they won't put a firefight mode in the game. It honestly added on so much extra life to the game, because for me I love the horde format and the Halo sandbox is Halo's strongsuit.

Anyway, those are my thoughts

How did neither jeff nor drew hit Y and see that they have br/pistol respectively? I feel like its just instinct to check what 2 weapons you are given for each mode, regardless of fps.

Of the various Accessibility options, why is it on by default?

I need to get back into the beta before it's over. It has been a lot of fun playing with my buddies. Breakout was really neat. I remember that a couple of times one of my pals didn't make the jump during the intro, so we were down a player at the beginning of the match. Ha!

I'm not a big fan of multiplayer, but I played a few matches of this when it came out and thought it was neat. I kind of felt they messed with the controls a bit much though, as if they were saying "we know you like the standard Call of Duty controls, but we're Halo, we have to do something else, but hey, at least you get the left trigger aim and right trigger shoot still!" It took some getting used to. It was quick, but still, I would prefer they have an option to go full COD controls.

I'm sure it'll be fine in the end though. I really like the addition of music that plays when you die, or when you run around, and then how the player character calls things out. It also feels like you'll need a bit more skill to play it than you would Call of Duty, as with Halo, it's shields, so you have more time to react if you're getting shot in the back and you can actually fight back.

Map control has been the core of halo multiplayer since the beginning. The notion that the concept never entered Jeff's mind in regards to Halo is baffling to me.

Reach was the ultimate Halo for me. I lost interest after Bungie stopped making them.

Holy moly, Jeff is baaaad at Halo.

Well, I guess it takes a lot of practice to be any good at it. I found the H5 beta to be highly enjoyable. It doesn't really feel like Halo anymore, but there are enough Halo-like elements (like the weapons and some of the shield mechanics) to make up for that. I love how it forces you to work with your team or at least stick together.

The only thing I thought was really off putting: The framerate. It was so erratic at the weirdest times. But I guess they still have a year to iron it out. This really brought back some trust in the Halo name after the terrible issues with the Master Chief collection (which is never going to be completely patched, I think)

I get peeved whenever people claim that quick dashing is such a new and novel feature. That thing's been around for ages, especially in mech games. It's not new!

Enjoyed everything I played in the Beta, aside from the R and B logos and the win animation.

This looks... grungy, from a graphics point of view. Sure, it's not optimized but seeing how they're aiming for 60fps, those jaggies will probably remain as jagged on release. Oh how I wish Halo came to PC.

Right? I mean, Tower of Power was inspired by that concept.
