Quick Look: Unmechanical

I like it!

This looks like a great game. I want it. The puzzles look like they take thinking yet are not frustrating. The game's atmosphere is mysterious enough that I want to know what will happen next.

Looks amazing, beautiful lightning, physics and art.

Great quick look. I like Drew commenting from the back. And yes Vinny was right about the camera.

So a 3D Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, only more puzzles less combat.

This does look pretty interesting. Going to add it to my Wish List.

I would have been fine with them talking about Ewan McGregor's movie career for the entirety of the Quick Look.

These guys are criminals and they don't roll with one in the chamber. Clearly they are not comfortable with their levels of gun safety discipline.

The framerate in the QL looks pretty low. Can anyone confirm if the game is locked to 30fps or do the guys still not have a properly equipped gaming PC for the office yet?

Rock Paper Shotgun had some very kind words to say about the game. Can't get a great impression from the QL, but apparently the puzzles ramp up in some pretty interesting ways - better than a Simon puzzle at least...

I am looking forward to playing this. The creator posted a trailer on Reddit about a month ago and I almost forgot about it.

I dunno, stuff lying around in out-of-bounds areas isn't usually helpful.

This was fun, not informative (hell naw), but fun.

I kind of want to watch this again and just look at the backgrounds. So much cool stuff going on.

gosh this game is pretty. nice lighting.

This quicklook seems okay, but if I'm honest, I would rather watch Vinny and Ryan talk about terrible B-movies for half an hour.

And that MST3K episode didn't star Scarlett Johansson, so the Island is obviously better.

@drewbert Please continue to call them out when they employ hubris; that was awesome.

I agree with Ryan that Haywire is a good movie.

game runs smooth for me. Their pc capture software sucks ass , I get better quality with fraps then they do with whatever they use. Also the game itself is awesome.

The main character's giving me real M.O.D.O.K. vibe. Which is a really good vibe to get!

After watching the quicklook I immediately bought and finished this game.

It's great, but that ending left me feeling like a terrible robot :(

I really like the occasional Drew commentary, I think that should become a staple of Quick Looks.

I love Ryan and Vinny quick looks so much. Hilarious when Ryan opted to ignore Drew's advice.

Vinny is very good at noticing stuff. I loved him freaking out about the camera he saw.

This game looks ok for an adventure game, but the Items look like they all blend into the background, and the puzzles look very obscure.

Super cool QL guys might pick this up later. All the stuff going on in the background and the whole am I just small or that stuff huge really got me interested. Not too big a fan of physics puzzles though so we'll see...

Yeah, that's Shallow Grave (1994) Ryan's thinking of. I can see how it gets it confused with Blood Simple; they're both fairly quiet blackly comic noir flicks with a very deliberate pace and great twists. Blood Simple's from 1984, however; I have a hunch Danny Boyle was doing another one of his homages, this time to the Coen Brothers. Only with, you know, UK folks.

Actually, the title is pretty relevant to a big setpiece in Blood Simple, hinted at in the trailer:

you know the quick lookers are enjoying a game when they just talk about the minute to minute game, rather than "this mechanic is.... ok, that mechanic.... doesnt suck...." good look and a very interesting and stylish game.

This game certainly has a lot of character. Anyone know if you can grab all the achievements first time through?

@Cyrisaurus: Not trying to change your mind, but perhaps Requiem For A Dream might be something you'd prefer if you were looking for something with a similar theme (drug usage and loss). Different amounts of adrenalin and vitriol in the production, and different outcomes. Trainspotting has Underworld for the soundtrack (they did the Olympic ceremony under Danny Boyle's direction), whereas RFAD has Clint Mansell's orchestral music, I'd be surprised if you haven't heard Lux Aeterna being used in TV or some Youtube video celebrating Michael Phelp's achievements or whatever.

The music reminds me of FEZ.

The gameplay reminds me of Bob Came in Pieces but with less focus on physics and player customization.

@Spatulalad: Very informative. I hadn't heard of anything by Boyle before Trainspotting and I'm not very familiar with the Cohen's filmography.

I'm not a fan of puzzle games, but this looks pretty awesome and is appropriately quirky.
