Civilization has become civilized!
I am weakest at strategy games, Real-Time being the worst for me. I think the last real-time strategy game I played was Homeworld and I played it because it was visually stunning. If I am to play a strategy game, I prefer the turn based games. Games like Ascendancy, and Galactic Civilizations, and even then I am not very good at the games, and they don't keep my attention.
Well a friend of mine mentioned that his roomate tried a demo of Civilization Revolutuion for the 360 and that his roomate liked it. Now I always tried to get into the Civ games but they always kicked my butt, or were too long to keep my attention. I didn't find myself engaged, but I do make a point of trying something if a friend says I should take a look. I downloaded the demo myself and started playing and was instantly hooked. I have now purchased the game after searching for a copy in the Atlanta area for a week and a half. It has apparently become a popular game.
I think one of the greatest things I liked about Civ-Rev is the removal of the micro-management of workers. I hate resource hunting in strategy games. I dislike having to race after stuff to be able to build more units or buildings or whatever. This new Civ game does the resource gathering for you. The other thing I liked about the game was the simplified controls. Part of this is due to playing the game with only a controller, but it made the game enjoyable. And my favorite part of the game is the ability to play to conclusion in one sitting. So far I have played the germans and obtained a military victory, and also as Ghandi, winning a cultural victory.
If you aren't normally a strategy game player, give this one a shot. It is a good intro to the genre. Civ buffs might not like the simplistic nature of Civilization Revolution...That's why there is the latest incarnation of the regular Civ game for them to play, but I found the latest incarnation thoroughly enjoyable.
