Civilization Revolution
Reviewing Civilization is different from reviewing other games. It's not the graphics or the sound effects, things people are focussing on nowadays. It's not the fact that it is turn-based. It was done before. No. It's the concept that is so appealing. Or better, it's the feeling you get from playing the game with such a strong concept. It's human history in one simple game. It enables you to really really feel the power of being a world leader. On you it depends what will happen to your subjects. You build the empire. You decide where cities are founded. You decide what kind of gouvernment suits your needs. You build armies. You decide how to appoach other leaders. You go to war. You make peace. The concept is so strong. No wonder this game spawned many sequels. But most importantly develloper Sid Meier knew how to translate his concept or (if you will) vision into a simple game on four floppy's. He made his concept work. A simple game it seems. Clicking the mouse. But it's not. There were many limitations back in the day. But it worked. Over time Sid Meier perfected the foumula, upgraded the graphics and sound, added some new features here and there.. nothing revolutionary actually. Although ironically his last outing on the consoles is called 'Civilization Revolution'. That's fine of course. Sid Meier is and always will be a genius who deserves all the credit for this game.
