Some games are a true struggle to review. This is the case with Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution. Not because it is bad in any way, but simply because I am not that good at it. What makes me confident enough to review the game despite my weakness at playing it is easy to describe. Despite the fact that I have yet to win a match, I have kept playing the game for hours and hours.

Civilization Revolution is a civilization simulation. The series is a well known PC series, and it's first foray into the console realm comes in an extremely streamlined and easy to access, yet hard to master, form.

You chose one of 16 different civilizations and try to lead them from the Stone Age all the way to a distant future of space stations. The way you develop your civilization is completely up to you. You can take the economic route, and try to simply accrue as much wealth as possible. You can go for a cultural win and spend your time developing your city with grand buildings and schools. Domination is a viable, and in many ways preferable option for anyone who wants to concentrate on the games easy to control battles. And for those who prefer gadgets there is always the possibility of a technological win.

While I have not played the PC versions of the Civilizations games, it only takes a tiny bit of imagination to see how complicated pulling off all the management and commands this series offers. Luckily for console owners, most actions in Civilization Revolution can be pulled off by using the control stick and just a few easy button presses.

This might lead you to ask,"if it is so easy, why do you say you are so bad at the game?" And that is an extremely good question.

I have yet to win a match not because I am incapable of winning one, but because the game is so addictive that I keep restarting it to try to have that perfect play through. I am sure I will eventually get sick of trying to win the game in a spectacular fashion and take just a simple win, but it is a true testament to the addicting nature this strategy game commands that I will keep trying.

THE QUICK AND DIRTY : I also loved strategizing in this game, which plays a bit like a combination of Monopoly and the card game Magic.

THE QUICK AND DIRTY : Fans of the Sim City franchise who felt let down by Sim City Societies should check out this game, which looks like it will innovate in more fun ways than Societies.

A Console Strategy Game That Works! 0

Staring at the clock, you consider starting another match. “Hey, I’ll just set things up for when I play tomorrow!” you say. Three hours later, you’ve finished another Civilization Revolution match, and you’re left wondering where the time went. Sounds like a Civilization game, doesn’t it? If you’re a veteran of the series, that’s music to your ears. That’s always the concern with PC strategy games making the jump to consoles — does it feel like the PC game? Too many times gamers have been doubl...

      Civilization Revolution 0

When it was announced that Firaxis was going to make a console version of Civilization I was skeptical to say the least. Civilization and other 4X games (which stands for "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate" a term coined by Alan Emrich during his Masters of Orion preview for any game in the vein of Civilization) have always seemed too large in scope and too dependent on keyboard and mouse to ever make that leap. I was wrong, I’m happy to report, but I was not entirely wron...
