    Civ enters a Dark Age?

Here is a little disclaimer first.  I have played Civ I,II,III extensively; skipped over IV but just bought it off of Steam to replace Civ V (from what I've heard it's currently the best Civ).

Instead of typing out the long story I'll just list a few of the good and bad aspects of the game.  Unfortunately all of the good qualities can be countered by several negatives.

    Good
    1) Overall the game looks and sounds great when it works; I was enamored with the colors, graphics, sounds, and music
    2) Large selection of different civilizations with 2 unique units and a unique ability
    3) The DLC scenarios were fairly entertaining; Rise of the Mongols is somewhat frustrating but still a decent time
    4) Achievements on steam; probably the main reason I'm still playing this game
    5) Wonders; provide an extra dimension to exploration and settling location

    Bad
    1) Very glitchy graphics; I need to constantly press esc, click, and tab in and out of the game to skip the intro.  Unit animations tend to glitch out late game when a lot is going on... I had a GDR that was hit by a cruise missle end up trying to shoot it down for 20 seconds even after it disapeared.  Major issue is the occasional in game freezes, which tend to induce anger
    2) Very bland luxury goods; each just give +5 happiness and occasional increase in growth.  Some mods have added unique buildings and units associated with specific goods, which would have been nice
    3) Workers tend to become useless late game... just improve improve improve then delete when you end up cycling through a bunch of useless workers
    4) AI is awful; I've played all difficulty levels and the AI is mentally challenged.  I just played last night, the comp had a city next to a small lake with 4 battleships, I captured the city, the comp kept bombarding the city even after the HP was at the minimum (dealing 0 damage over and over), they had a infantry fortified within 2 tiles and decided not to take it.  So many examples
    5) The unique abilities aren't really balanced and tend to phase out late game; what I wish they did was have maybe two unique abilities and you select one of the two; that way you woudn't be stuck with useless abilities like England and the Ottomans on a land map
    6) Not fun late game... tend to just be going through the motions.  All games lead to an easy domination victory regardless of difficulty; I've never had a game where it was like, Comp is really over powering me, I can't take them so I HAVE to get another type of victory to REALLY win the game; only reason to get the other types is either for the achievement or just for the hell of it.
    7) Non-existent multiplayer... Lag, crashes, NOBODY online
    8) Glitched achievements

This is a fairly short list for both the good and bad but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Own The World, Lose Your Time 0

Back in the late 1990s, my parents bought me a pretty old Mac from a friend my mother worked with. On this computer was Civilization II, thrown in with a bunch of other games I spent my late Middle School to High School years playing. Little did I know this was the beginning of an obsession that would last over 3 more games and 10 more years of my life. I had no idea what I was doing, but I had many a late night trying to slowly take over the world. So as you would probably expect, this review...

      A review for Civ-fans 0

It started with me skipping lunch to play Civ 1 in the computer lab in high school, and it led to spreadsheets calculating tile yields and worker moves to maximize the first 100 turns of Civ 3 games and countless big fat crosses scrawled on the back of slips of paper to figure out how many farms I needed to build to work all of a cities tiles plus specialists in Civilization 4.  So you could say that I'm an experience civilization player. If you're a fan too, then you are probably already playin...
