Locations

Assembly

Assembly is part of the Mythic map pack, in addition to Orbital and Sandbox. This is a small map designed for small team games and free-for-all matches.
Avalanche

A remake of the classic Halo: Combat Evolved map Sidewinder, Avalanche is a downloadable map for Halo 3. Its large scale and plethora of vehicles make it ideal for Big Team Battle and Team Objective gametypes.
Blackout

Blackout is one of the downloadable maps added to Halo 3. This was one of the most highly requested maps in the game, as it is a remake of Lockout, a popular Halo 2 map revered for its competitive play.
Boundless

A revised version of Snowbound, Bungie was kind enough to hear players' cries and remove all three basement shield doors from the Halo 3 map Snowbound. Boundless will coexist with, not replace Snowbound in Matchmaking.
Coagulation

Coagulation is a Halo 2 multiplayer map. It Is a large valley with identical bunkers at both ends.
Cold Storage

A mostly exact remake of the Halo: Combat Evolved multiplayer map Chill Out, Cold Storage was a downloadable map released for free by Bungie during their annual Bungie Day celebration on July 7, 2008.
Construct

A well-rounded map, Construct is favored by many competitive players for its simple-yet-chaotic play mechanics. Various long hallways and open spaces require loads of team communication, but has enough cover that it doesn't feel unfair.
Delta Halo

The second Halo ring to appear in the Halo series, and is the main setting of Halo 2.
Epilogue

A revised version of the Halo 3 map Epitaph, Bungie used its divine powers to remove all shield doors from the map, eliminating the annoying shotgun camping players were inclined to do in Matchmaking. Epilogue will coexist with, not replace Epitaph.
Guardian

Inspired by the Halo 2 map Lockout, one would assume Guardian's popularity would diminish when Lockout's proper remake, Blackout was released. A testament to its design, Guardian still holds up as one of the best competitive Halo 3 maps with a near-flawless layout.
Halo

The major setting of the Halo series, these ring worlds are an array of alien devices capable of killing all sentient life.
High Charity

Built around a forerunner ship, High Charity was The Covenant's holy city and main base of operations serves as both its seat of power and mobile command base.
High Ground

High Ground is an asymmetrical storm-the-gates style of Halo 3 map. Its long lines of sight and advantages from, well, the high ground make this map more chaotic than others.
Pit Stop

A revised version of the Halo 3 map The Pit, Pit Stop is "The Pit with inaccessible spawn hives," according to Bungie. This map was created by Bungie themselves and will coexist with The Pit in Matchmaking, not replace it.
Rat's Nest

Rat's Nest is a series of rooms with an outside perimeter ideal for driving Warthogs. Its unusual design works surprisingly well for racing game variants, as well as larger scale Objective games.
Sand Tarp

A revised version of the Halo 3 map Sandtrap, Sand Tarp removes Elephants completely and changes the default flag spawn point in One Flag from the crypt to the downed Albatross, making these games actually possible. This map will coexist with, not replace Sandtrap in Matchmaking.
Sandtrap

Sandtrap is by far the largest multiplayer map in Halo 3. It is primarily used for Big Team Battle matches.
Snowbound

A love-it-or-hate-it map, Snowbound is notorious in Halo 3 for its many spaces to get spammed by a Shotgun or Mauler, grenades getting stuck in the snow causing them to miss their targets, and its too-open outside layout, although most players stay indoors. This map's appearance is usually accompanied by obscenities or the word "veto."
Standoff

A large map with no Sniper Rifles might seem unusual to players unfamiliar with Standoff, but the idea works well on this downloadable Halo 3 map.
Subway

The map first released in Gears of War through DLC and re-released in its sequel.
The Pit

The Pit is one of the most popular and well-balanced multiplayer maps in Halo 3. It is also used in competitive MLG matches.
