Most of my fun with Stalker was listening to Idle Thumbs talk about it. I've tried to play it sooooo many times and I just can't get into it.(same story for Far Cry 2)

I did my STALKER grieving last time they announced the cancellation. But this reincarnation actually gives me hope. I'm the opposite of disappointed.

I always wanted The Zone in more places than the area surrounding the Chernobyl NPP, and now that's definitely a thing. There were some awesome ideas for online Zone exploration in the old lists of things they were wanting to implement into the first STALKER a number of years before SoC came out. One thing that could suck is that I might fall in love with this game and end up spending waaay too much money on it... or I might hate it.

Even though it'll be online only, I hope there will still be the ability to solo or that the levels are so fucking massive that 16-32 dudes could populate one and possibly never cross eachother. Or that you could roam as a pack of bandits, just ganking lone stalkers trying to scavenge for anomalies or whatever. Maybe forming your own corporations instead of simply choosing one of three default factions that are always at odds. Maybe I'm expecting too much for a F2P game.

first and foremost the owner of the company shut it down because of personal reasons and not financial (there have been rumors around that the owner of GSC was into some shady shit with some investment companies but they could be just rumors) The reason they just couldn't buy the IP from the GSC owner and finish the game themselves have not been disclosed but i can imagine that the guy wanted ludicrous amounts of money being the greedy bastard he probably is.

So rumour has it that Behesda picked up the rights to the IP. Jerk move to stomp out competition for Fallout or do they plan to do anything with it? Most likely the former, can't see why any company would need two post apocalyptic IPs. Bummer.

Makes sense. Brian Fargo did the same to Wasteland right after it was clear the direction Fallout 3 was headed, and we just now have a game coming out of it. With Wasteland and Stalker around, Bethesda's take on Fallout might as well not even exist.

Fallout 3 is probably the most well known post apocalyptic game out there(for better or worse), trying to snuff out competition doesn't make much sense to me. Neither did the lawsuit over the Scrolls name, so I guess Bethesda (or more accurately, ZeniMax) are crazy.

At least they're making another game. Online FPS makes it sound like it will be less dense in terms of combat, they might get rid of some of the more divisive mechanics like bleeding, hunger, etc. I'll play it regardless. Stalker always had great atmosphere, they should have no problem replicating that aspect. Seeing 100 other people running around a post apocalyptic world might break the immersion - we'll see.

Okay. I could sort of see a dirivatoryMMO but a lot less forced. I still wish the real focus was on a Stalker like game; SP/open world/horror-survival-shooter with the strong rpg. Despite the breaking glitches, they (and to be honest the superlative modding community), learned their craft and universe well enough to finally beat them.) GSC crafted a hyper real world with a fairly good logic. For comparison The Witcher 2, though I have not even bought it yet, seems to have that depth of mesh in it's internals. The parts fit in Stalker, and the graphic art often seemed lush. The wastes, the forests, the sun sending it's first beams over the skyline through the misty air at dawn.

And just to mention it GSC had a few ladies. It has become a belief of mine that rpg games with many many parts, even a game like Stalker, benefit from more women involved in art and storyline, the dialogue choices, etc.

well stalker was originally planned to incorporate mmo elements , they wanted it to feel like a single player mmo , they knew they didnt have the resources to make it online then but they planned its immersion and open world from the get go to seem "larger and more daunting" than a single player setting , this is when they had vehicles and large transition areas between the "hubs" .. so yeh this mmo idea isnt that crazy ... but its still sad news

I was interested in your opinion until i saw you dismiss a game based purely on its distribution method.

I would pretend I'm interested in what you think about my opinion but I don't make room for half-arsed, 12 year old, comebacks.

Excuse me also for not liking micro-transactions, having to deal with horribly implemented in-game currencies and generally receiving a broken, glitchy, experience that tends to feature heavily in the vast majority of F2P games.

@loopy_101: I know many F2P games are glitchy, filled with microtransactions and the like, but there are a few out there that are perfectly fine.

League of Legends (one of the biggest games in e-sports right now) is a F2P games, and it is constantly being balanced, tweaked, and made better for the consumers. Everything that you can buy with real money in that game can also be earned though just playing. Also, the newly released Super Monday Night Combat is free, and it looks pretty fun.
