There are a lot of rough edges. 0

It bothers me when people complain about Square Enix's policy of bringing forward its old games. The fact of the matter is, RPGs are expensive to develop. The fact of the matter is, Square Enix needs to keep the lights on while working on its latest magnum opus. And even if those things weren't the case, the fact of the matter is that both Enix and Square were making amazing games in Japan that never saw the light of day int he United States.Enter Star Ocean First Departure, the rebuild of one o...

Not for nostalgic purposes 0

It'd be hard to say that Start Ocean: First Departure grabs what the original did oh so long ago and updates it for a modern audience. Instead, it seems to take the game’s storyline and runs it on a more reliable engine. If you’re looking to play this game simply for nostalgia, then you might want to step away. Great remake of a classic RPG 0

This is to me, a perfect remake. The classic SNES look and feel remains while they added in great voice acting and anime cut scenes. This game brought me back into the Star Ocean universe after the disappointment of Star Ocean: Til the end of time. The story is excellent but falls short in play time. I manag...

Star Ocean First Departure Review 0

Star Ocean: First Departure is a PSP remake of the 1996 game of the same name. This is the game that started the Star Ocean series. You will be taking on the role of a tailed, reluctant, hero, as you will discover that you are not alone, and the life you had known isn't all there is out there. A strange disease has ravaged a town, and the cure is something out of this world. The graphics show that it is a remake of an older game, there's nothing that is going to blow your mind but you can definit...

Star Ocean : First Departure Review 0

When people think of the JRPG genre, the first thing they associate it is with Final Fantasy, and if you’re someone hardcore, Dragon Quest. It’s a bit unfortunate that a lot of good JRPG’s get swamped in the cross fire and never get the praise they deserve. Enix’s Star Ocean was one of these games.Originally released for the SNES in 1996, this was one of those late games that was never released outside of Japan, and most of the world never got to experience it. Years later many ambitious fan c...
