I've played every game on this list, and completed many/most of them. The rankings still need lots of teasing out. I'll admit, there's a fair amount of nostalgia bias going on, and as you can tell I don't see the PSX era as the Golden Age some do.

I don't think anybody can contend this belongs in the all-time top 3. It's near perfect.
Despite the broken story, it's a great game, second only to VI in the most-epic-FF rating.
Too bad this never got finished. Even how it is, it is one of the most fun action RPGs of all time.
The first Final Fantasy is still one of the best in the series. The second is probably the worst. As a package with plenty of added content, the two deserve to be near the top of the heap.
I've probably sunk more time into this game than any other ever. If you've got a PSP, get the updated version.
One of my favorites as a kid. A remake would be awesome.
This one was a game changer back in the day. Still a great one, with a great fiction. The moon stuff is a little dumb though. The DS one is good, but the GBA version is probably the definitive one, though they omitted "spoony bard."

My second foray into this series (not counting Dragon Warrior when I was 8). I like the choices and pets.
Probably deserves to be higher, but it's a borderline RPG. Plenty of grinding. Too bad this game is mostly forgotten about now.

Yeah, the junction system sucks, and the characters are kinda lame, and the constant summoning is annoying, but its a good game.

Pretty solid game. It's a shame they didn't put a bit more effort into retooling the wi-fi stuff for the West. The story is good but fairly short, and the end game would be awesome with people to quest with / trade up maps. Too bad that's near impossible if you aren't frequenting a Japanese subway. Instead it was grinding for no real purpose, which got boring.

Tied with Eternal Sonata for 3rd best Xbox RPG after FF13 and Lost Odyssey. Has one of the better cliched JRPG fictions of this generation of games.
