Dark Forces: Jedi Knight is the second entry in the Dark Forces franchise. It introduced the lightsaber, force powers and full motion video to the brand. You play as Kyle Katarn, yet again, but this time you're a Jedi who is searching for the Dark Jedi who murdered your father.
Overview
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight was a huge departure from the first game in the Dark Forces franchise. Jedi Knight re-introduced Kyle Katarn as a more fully developed character who slowly learns the way of the force. This was the first Dark Forces game to feature online multiplayer in the form of deathmatches and the first Star Wars game to allow players to use a lightsaber and force powers.
The animated cutscenes in Dark Forces were replaced by full motion video in Jedi Knight and the plot fits into the Star Wars universe, right after the events of Return of the Jedi. The full motion video sequences shot for Jedi Knight were the first live-action Lightsaber shots done since the filming of Return of the Jedi. Jedi Knight was the first videogame to delve into the New Republic time period from the Star Wars Expanded Universe; to this day, only games in the Jedi Knight Series have been set after Return of the Jedi.
Players could choose to follow the light side or the dark side of the force or a mixture of the two. However, there is a watershed moment that will force you to be all good powers or all evil. You could not use both force heal (a light power) and force lightning (a dark one).
Plot
The plot of Jedi Knight, follows Kyle as he unravels the mystery behind his father, Morgan Katarn's, murder. Prior to the events of the original Dark Forces Morgan Katarn was killed by a group of dark Jedi led by the blind alien Sith, Jerec. Kyle is joined by companion, Jan Ors, in an attempt to stop the dark Jedi before they reach the Valley of the Jedi, a Jedi burial ground and home of unspeakable power. Kyle needs to confront each of the dark Jedi to avenge his father and stop the dark plot.
