" Man, fuck this contest. I got all excited and BAM 'We don't ship to Canada, so suck it snowmonkies' What the fuck is up with that :( I really wanted something signed by coonce because he is legendarily awesome. "Shipping laws, obviously. It's not just Canada, it's EVERYONE who isn't in the US. Deal.
" Wow, tons of people who have no idea how contest and international prize laws work ITT "I blame the school system, kids just don't pay attention in internationl prize law classes these days.
" we Canadians just love this "US only" contests, makes us hate you even more :P least I got quest completed XP out of it "@Danterion said:
" Fucking US-only contests. Bullshit. The Mailbag is not US-exclusive, is it? Presents from all over the world... "@Diabloshadow said:

" They should not even bother having a competition. Just say, if you are a US citizen, you can win a prize, if you live in Europe just fuck off and we'll also make fun of your gaming press "
Basically it's an absurd amount of work and sometimes money to legally ship something for nothing. Now multiply the amount of work and checking with lawyers by not only every country, but every province/state within a country if the legal system demands. (protip: U.S.A. = 51, Canada = 14)
I remember GameSpot was usually excluding a couple of states with many of their contests. Arizona, Rhode Island, and Tennessee I think are usually sticky. In Canada it's mainly Quebec.
GB and Whiskey is too big to fly under the radar. As time goes on they'll probably get more clearances and offer to more areas.
If you want to rage about not having a small chance to get something for free, that's fine. But I sincerely doubt any of you will offer to help chip in to pay criminal fines or legal fees for the privilege. (Me, I turn off my ad blocker and buy merch, and that's about all I'm up for.)
This is how the world works.
OMFG, I never thought I'd see something on Stoked and Stoked: Big Air Edition.
This is completely awesome.
If you don't already own this awesome snowboarding game -- and I doubt you do -- go pick it up right fucking now.
Seriously, Stoked is basically Amped 1 & 2 with Skate-style controls. So fucking good.
Props to GB for bringing Stoked up. This franchise needs more love, especially with Big Air Edition garnering such high scores.
And about this:
"Staff Note: Giant Bomb in no way endorses the quality of Stoked: Big Air Edition."
Nope, the 80%+ Metacritic rating does, however.
I support them 100%." and we'll also make fun of your gaming press "
Also, apparently everybody that uses this site is Canadian. I am now leaving.
" They should not even bother having a competition. Just say, if you are a US citizen, you can win a prize, if you live in Europe just fuck off and we'll also make fun of your gaming press "About...how long would you say this is?
Is there multiplayer...in the game?
Do you always...bitch this much?...
" Damn, have to be American, guess us Australians will have to go have sex with Koalas or something. "
Don't kid yourself, you were already eying the Koala's before you read this :P
Yeah, sucks that there's no non US love
Here's one thing you will always know about contests: laws do not want you to have them. Getting even a U.S.-only contest going is a royal pain in the ass that involves filing with certain states if you want to offer prizes with a value over a certain amount. The amount of red tape is fucking unbelievable if you want to go international with these things. Half the time when I've done giveaways like this I'd go small scale and just sail under the radar. If you actually have an official-type contest and all your i's must be dotted and your t's crossed, this is the result.
It's not because GB hates Canada or anyplace else. Contests are the most infuriating thing, period. Giving fun stuff away is practically illegal.
I'm sure that way to do it isn't legal, but hell. Why should it be illegal to give free stuff to people around the world? Free stuff that aren't illegal? And I have joined a few other contests based in the US which was open for mostly the whole world. So there must be some way to do it. Not that I care much for the prizes this week, but I am sure they will have a contest I really want to win eventually.
The second bullet-point gave me a good chuckle. Sounds fun, though like many I'm not typing this from America.
How do I make sure I'm not entered for the competition? I completed the quest set but I live outside of the US.
So...wait...if you live outside the US then you can't win, but only the first 2000 get entered? Does that mean I shouldn't even be trying to do it until 2000 have? Because I still want the experience, need to level up!
Still, sucks that it's US only. I don't know about any of the legal stuff involved (which I assume is the reason it's US only) but is there any chance, any at all, of this ever being worldwide? That would be awesome.
