Even after 19 years this is still an excellent game
Good:
One of the greatest games…. ever; 70+ levels of pure fun; New suits are awesome to play with; Excellent music; Some of the best level designs in an NES game; Costing 5 dollars is just a total steal.
Bad:
The game could have used more levels that include Kuribo's Shoe; A save file system would have been nice;
Some levels in the game can be marked as cheap and unfair.
Super Mario Bros. 3 was released in 1990, and it proved to be a phenomenal game, sometimes even considered one of the greatest games of all time. Is it worth going back to the Mushroom Kingdom and continue your reign of terror against Goombas, Koopas, and Bowser? It's a pretty obvious yes.
If you have never heard of Mario, which is pretty hard imagine, here's the plot. Bowser kidnaps Princess Pea- I mean "Toadstool". To top it all off Bowser's kids have also stole the King's wands. So it is once again up to Mario to bring order back to Mushroom Kingdom and save Peach!
The simple gameplay of Super Mario Bros. gets mixed with new suites that Mario can don, which add a lot to the already excellent game formula. Basically a mushroom makes Mario big, while a flower makes him throw fire. Some of the new suites are pretty cool. There's a leaf turns Mario into a flying raccoon, while the Tanooki suit makes him turn to stone. Although these suits sound like the game is going to be easier, they don't. The game also offers a lot of challenge that will be sometimes based on trial and error, but it never gets too challenging to punch a hole on the wall.
The game also changed to an overworld to let Mario select the next area he wants to go to. This adds some strategy, because the order of the levels you choose to complete open up different paths to go. The game's eight worlds also are very well thought and creative. One world you're running on ice, while in the next world you're in a desert running away from an angry sun, and even one world everything turns huge. It would've been nice if they included some of the bonus content found in the All-Star or Advance remakes, but it's an emulation, so it's fine. The games music is also excellent done by Koji Kondo, one of the few people who can make the NES music shine with it's great melodies (I still have the main theme stuck in my head.)
A few other problems is that the game lacks a save file, so if you accidentally turn off your Wii, you have to start over the game. Fortunately the Suspend Play feature found in the Wii can solve the problem, by exiting the game via Wii Menu, and starting off where you left off next time you turn it on. Another issue is that there is a thin strip at the end of the screen that is just a weird blue or black border. But there is so much action going on you won't really notice.
Super Mario Bros. 3 is an excellent game that should be played by any Mario or platforming fan. If you have never played this game, then go right now and download this game. It is 5 dollars perfectly spent.
