Well, what would they be? I've been interested in getting in touch with my RPG roots lately and I'm wondering which games I should try out.
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Platform »
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was the second home console released by Nintendo.
If you were to recommend a few SNES RPGs...
Only one I played was Super Mario RPG (wasn't released here, so take a guess at how I played it) and it was epic.
Other than that I didnt play many SNES era RPGs.
Oh crap, I forgot to mention that I had played Final Fantasy 4 and 6. They were amazing though! Super good for their time and even still they are great.
I did buy it on VC when it was eventually released, yes :) *shifty eyes* That was after I had played it years beforehand :P
Funny you should say that actually, I have a fair few Jap imports :D damned if I can read them though lol, i'm waiting for my friend who studies Japanese to come down and play Shin Megami Tensei NINE with me for original Xbox, I can't understand a word of it lol.
Okay, I'm going to assume you are ROMing some these if not all of them, because most of these games are pretty hard to find today. For the sake of argument I'm going to put (ROM) with the preferred version next to the ones that are damn near impossible find and/or were never relesead outside Japan. So without further adieu, here's the SNES RPG's I recommend based on what you have already played.
Final Fantasy II (IV)
Final Fantasy III (VI)
Secret of Evermore
Super Mario RPG
Illusion of Gaia
Terranigma (ROM it, because the only English version ever released was in Australia and it's retardedly hard to find)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) (ROM it for an English translation. This beauty was never released outside Japan.)
Tales of Phantasia (Also never released outside Japan, get the deJap ROM)
Star Ocean (Also never released outside Japan, ROM it.)
Bahamut Lagoon (Also never released outside Japan, ROM it.)
Mother 2 (Earthbound) (ROM it, because it's crazy hard to find.)
Albert Odyssey 1 + 2 (ROM these they were never released outside Japan.)
Final Fantasy VI/III, Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. Um, Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean (Japanese releases, but you can find a translation)
I wouldn't exactly call Illusion of Gaia an RPG. It's more of an action adventure. it's a lot of fun too and man, the references to history are awesome.
I'm only repeating whats being said already, but Earthbound (Mother 2 -get it on the GBA in Japanese from an import shop so you actually own it) and FFVI spring to mind. You can get FFVI on the GBA also so technically you don't need to ROM those two...though you do need to learn some Japanese.
Final Fantasy 4(2), Final Fantasy 6(3), Secret of mana, Secret of Evermore, Earthbound, Chrono trigger, Super Mario RPG, Act Raiser, Illusion of gaia, Star Blazer.
Everything in this thread is right-on. Other ones that I would suggest are the Enix/Quintet ones!
Games like Act Raiser, Terranigma, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, The 7th Saga, Star Ocean, Brain Lord, Robotrek, and Dragon Quest VI (best Dragon Quest game period, being released on the DS in North America for the first time, in about a year or so).
Some other random ones to try-out are Lagoon, Bahamut Lagoon, Equinox, Big Sky Trooper, Secret of the Stars, Young Merlin, Seiken Densetsu 3 (best Secret of Mana game), and maybe The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang (I never could finish this one).
Some of these may not be pure RPG's (and may have not aged very well), but they used to all be so amazing back-in-the-day!
EDIT: Cerza, Einherjan, and WilliamRLBaker made their posts while I was writing this. Listen to them :p
Seiken Densetsu 3 and Final Fantasy IV would be my two picks, seeing as you've already played Chrono Trigger.
As stated in a post above, Seiken Densetsu 3 was never released outside of Japan, but there's a great English fan-translation out there for the ROM.

Like a lot of other people have said, I'd say FFVI, Chrono Trigger (Both of which you've played), and Super Mario RPG. I'd also recommend The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (I know it's not really an RPG), and one of my old favorites: Soul Blazer. I need to go find a copy of Soul Blazer now. I miss that game. The ending was so great.
