The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.
It finally got announced!
As much as I've been badmouthing Oblivion lately, that trailer had me really excited and I'm glad the Skyrim rumours proved true, as the snowy village in Oblivion was my favourite area of the game. I hope they can create more great looking areas like that and we have less of the pre-generated dullness. Only think that really stuck out to me was.. The story seems to be exactly the same as Guild Wars 2 and it'll no doubt be GW2 that takes the flak for "copying it" despite the fact we've known that would be the plot for several years already!
Also, I'll be very disappointed too if it turns out they're still using the Gamebryo engine. Even with serious modifications I doubt their ability to get anything good from it. I also hope they realise that gamers don't need everything so dumbed down in order to enjoy it. I'm not against improvements and streamlining like what Mass Effect 2 did.. But Oblivion could have been a much better game if they kept some of the complexity and features from the previous games.
There have been massive improvements in game engines and game design over years since Olivion was released. Oblivion was a fantastic game at the time, but it needs a major overhaul. I mean top-to-bottom overhaul. If they don't do that, I'm a little on the fence about it. I'll almost certainly still buy it, but I want something more than just a halfhearted upgrade. The Assassin's Creed games (at least the last two) have shown how big and complex an open-world game can be, and so I'm hoping they take their queues from that. And I hope they've learned their lessons from Fallout: New Vegas as well. Somehow, though, I doubt they have.
" Sure I've never been a fan of any of Bethesda's games to date, but if they manage to put together something really awesome in an incredible engine I'll give it a fair shot. "Wow, how generous of you, lol. Just messin, but seriously, I screamed like a little girl when Todd took the stage. I have put in over 100 hours into Oblivion and still haven't finished the main quest.
I want less bugs obviously. I would also like to see some sort of multiplayer. Not full blown, but something more akin to Demon Souls or Fable where you can interact with others if you choose.
Also Horse armor, as long as it costs more
Yup defintely awesome it has been announced and also agreed with some of you above posters, time for a new game engine or at least a heavily, heavily modified gamebryo. For the last 8 years both Elder Scrolls installments had lead the way in regard to graphical prowess (for their time). Really hope that tradition is continued.
Bout fucking time, I want to see more than the color brown and I like having the option to train my skills by punching babies rather than farming experience which will suddenly make me stronger in random aspects; pick locks - I KNOW SCIENCE.
" @Hailinel said:People shouldn't build games thinking mods will fix it later. Also, I held out until literally everything for FO3 came out, and all the big mods were made compatible with each other, and I still had baffloing glitches left and right. You can only shine a turd so much." @ryanwho said:Mods. Nuff said. "In my last profile status update, I said:" @Skunkboy72 said:

@WinterSnowblind: Well, dragons have been around forever, but it really does seem like everyone's been putting them into their games recently. I mean, you have Oblivion, Cataclysm, Guild Wars 2, Dragon Age I and II. Tell me if I'm missing any.

" So excited for this game. i hope the world is huge and the sword play is better, also hope that they use a new fucking engine! skyrim is meant to be a smaller continent that cyrodil but i hope they make it seem bigger than oblivion did. "Again, definitely no new engine. But making the world seem bigger wouldn't be hard. Morrowind was a much smaller map but felt a lot larger because of the amount of detail and unique locations.. as opposed to Oblivions pre-generated forests.
" @MisterMollusk: I think the problem is that they've been hyping up Dragons for a long time with the Elder Scrolls games. They've always been present, but they've been saving them actually being in the games until now.. Which just happens to be smack dab in the middle of a big dragon fad. It really takes away from the impact it might have otherwise had.Bioware figured out their dragon tech, so it's time for Bethesda to show off theirs.

Also, SPEEDTREE.
Between this, Dragon Age 2, MA3, and Fallout: NV DLC, I may have to quit my job next year. I don't even know when I will have time for non-RPG's like Uncharted and Batman:AC, hell, I still have to finish the main quest on Oblivion and Dragon Age: Origins! Oh what a time to be alive.
The trailer is making things looking like it'll be quite epic, but I hope they've figured out a way to deal with their open world gameplay and the atmosphere of world really needing your help. It just doesn't feel right that I'm running around doing meaningless sidequests when the world is coming under attack through magic portals that appear at every city.
- i'd like a crafting system...i wanna be able to take those clusters of scrap metal and turn them into something. Alchemy was designed way better in Oblivion then in Morrowind so i'd like to see them fallow through with crafting this time around.
- I like the idea introduced in Fallout 3 of using other weapons to repair your weapons.
- Mainly though, i just want more variety in the environments like it was in Morrowind.
- The leveling should be better balenced
" A good story and a world that doesn't level up with you. "Seconded.
Even more, though, I want a new engine. if they rip us off and pull a New Vegas and release a "new game" on an engine that's coming on half a decade old, I will be very disappointed.

But this was 5 years ago. Rampant piracy was mostly limited to music still. So people were buying it." @ryanwho said:
