A 10 in Game Informer too. Worth noting Twilight Princess also got a 10 from them. Twilight Princess is in my opinion, one of the weakest Zelda games and incredibly far from a 10. I know, opinion's and all that. I'm still looking very forward to Skyward Sword though, just hope I don't get burnt again.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Link descends from his floating continent home to explore the dark and dangerous world below with the help of a magical sword, in this Wii installment of the Legend of Zelda series.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Reviews
Shit's getting real now, I think Nintendo might have pulled it off and reinvigorated the Zelda franchise.
It's just kills me that this launches about the same time as Skyrim. Between Skyrim and Battlefield 3, I can't afford to buy the game right now or even really have enough time that I need to absorb a Zelda game. When I get this, I need to lock myself away, take a day off or two, and just get into it.

A recording session for the orchestral CD
i think a part of me has died. nothing about this game gets me excited. i love the NES, SNES, and N64 Zelda games, but everything i see about this game does nothing for me. maybe its the fact i don't own a Wii, and i have no plans to get one just for this. graphicly the game looks awful, and i am not just talking about the Wii's lack of power. the art style is doing nothing for me. the gameplay i have seen isn't clicking with me either. maybe it is something i'll actually get my hands on before it clicks, but as of right now its not working for me.

I wonder if an 8.8 would equal a 4 today. Sorry, just curious. I'm sure it will be reviewed by the Giant Bomb staff.
Patrick is reviewing it as far as I know.
Anyways, I'm trying to decide between a Wii and PSP. For the Wii I want like, 4 games. This, House of the Dead Overkill, NSMBW, and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Tons of games for PSP I want, but I really want this.
It's a real bummer that they are releasing this for the Wii, looks like a really great game but it would be better if you were able to use a classic controller.

If you read any of the reviews available you'll see that after this game a return to buttons in a console Zelda is very unlikely to happen. The motion plus controls are excellent and make conventional button controls seem very tired in comparison, the lack of them would prevent the bulk of the new gameplay that makes this game so great, apparently.
If you have no interest in motion controls, you should have no interest in the game, because motion plus controls permeate every inch of Skyward Sword.
GT VIDEO PREVIEW
@Contro: Man, the combat in that GT preview makes me want this even more. Looks like it controls fabulously.

It's just that motion controls seem like a huge gimmick, they don't seem to add anything to the game at all. (not this game, I was talking about games in general)
@NekuSakuraba: Think this game sounds like the first game that actually makes the game better by having motion controls, you can always count on Nintendo to figure out a way to use their hardware in awesome ways, shame nobody else seem to be able to do the same.

I've seen a lot better leaked [private] footage of combat ;)

Claude is right when he says some are more skilled than others, I personally would go as far as to say some people have a complete inability to use them.
If you think pressing a button will provide you with more immersion and fun, It suggests to me that you haven't bothered to read any of the reviews or quotes yet, and that you fall on the side of the latter. If that's the case I wholeheartedly suggest you don't buy this game, it would only be one monumental "gimmick" to you and a complete waste of your money. Go Skyrim, instead of Skyward.

I don't know what he means by some people being more skilled than others, perhaps he could further explain. And maybe you could also with statements like ''complete inability to use them''.

I've noticed some people can't hold the controller still, it's almost like they have shaky hands syndrome born from a nervous disposition.
What does that have to do with people not liking the idea of motion controls? It's ridiculous to suggest people think it's gimmicky because they can't hold the controller still. What you are saying makes no sense whatsoever.
You're doing it wrong... Actually the Wii Remote and Nunchuck feel very natural to me. I feel in control and it feels natural.@Contro said:

I think you guys are talking about a totally different thing here.

haha, you cant win arguments when the other person has no intention to use reason (then its just emotional ramblings), best not to waste your time.

Will Skyward Sword get 8.8 stars?
4.4 would fit that pattern a bit better. Also I believe Patrick is the one reviewing it.

Pretty sure he is, though it seems he can't get enough of Skyrim at the moment:

Skyward Sword credits rolling means I can finally return to Skyrim tonight. Probably going to swing my Xbox 360 controller around a bunch.

What's the over-under on Jim Sterling giving it a low score?
He's not reviewing it. Jonathan Holmes is. I expect a 10/10 since he loves Nintendo.

If that's the case I'm guessing he's rushed through the adventure having not played the "numerous and engrossing" side-quests the game has. These side quests reportedly add and equal amount of time to the adventure: 30hrs.
I won't trust any reviewer who has failed to play this game in it's entirety, I think this game deserves that at the very least for a credible review.
Gaming Press Quotes (French)
So, you'll trust no review, is that what you're saying?
I'll be happy enough with the CE here, but I fear I'll have to import that lovely thing too sometime.
I don't trust any reviewer .... full stop. They are just people like you and me and who is to say their opinions are any more or less valid than yours or mine? I don't read reviews, but they do act as a useful guide to confirm a view I already have. WIth Zelda for example, I am getting it because I know I will like it. Unless a board full of scores of 50 turn up, pointing me to something that has clearly gone wrong, then I don't need to read them.

nope, just give it a once in a lifetime 8.8 stars, it would be confusingly hilarious.

If you don't value people opinions then I can understand why you don't read reviews. But, I feel sorry for you.
@Marzy: I don't think anyone is surprised to be honest, some people are voicing concerns that reviewers will just rate it high cause it is called Zelda, the same thing happened with Twilight Princess that had fairly positive reviews but was way below par compared to the other Zelda games.
@Marzy said:
Why is it so hard for some people to believe a Zelda game can get such high praise and scores?
You only need to play Galaxy to know Nintendo still make some of the best games around.
Well on the flipside, why is it so hard for rabid Nintendo fans to accept that their precious games might not get a perfect score? The review isn't out for a couple of days and people are already coming up with excuses to a possible "bad" review of Skyward Sword.
- "I don't trust Patrick to review it"
- "I don't trust reviewers that don't reflect my own opinion"
- "If he hasn't played all the sidequests and everything there is to do, then I won't trust his review"
And so on. So every reviewer out there should dive into the 300+ hours of Skyrim too before we can trust those reviews? For crying out loud, people still talk about Jeff giving that Zelda game years ago an 8.8 out of 10, like hell just froze over and Satan came to eat our flesh.

If you google "8.8" the first thing that comes up is jeff's Twilight princess review, fun fact.
