I just downloaded EA's shitty Steam knockoff and I'm firing up the debit card to get The Secret World. I used to constantly make fun of WOW nerds, now I guess it's a bit poetic that I've gone down the MMO rabbit hole and ended up just like them.

This is the first MMO where the setting didn't seem like utter cornball bullshit and the gameplay seems simple enough. And I'll buy pretty much anything made by the guy who created The Longest Journey.

(The lowest of the low is still facebook gaming. Tired of the goddamn Sim City Social spamming.)

For some reason I cant flag this post.

The game also doesn't seem completely infested with skinner box leveling systems and mind-numbing microtransaction nightmares. Vanity items and a few early game boosters seem to be it. Good on Funcom.

The setting is actually really freaking cool. I'd love to play as Majestic 12 or the MIB for a change!

It felt pretty generic to me when I played the beta. Been playing TOR actually lately (the free to play thing). Bet you can't stoop lower than that dude.

Before the download completes....there are no major differences between the factions besides story and general aesthetics right?

And would Chaos Magic and Pistols be a good combination? Kind of going for a John Constantine vibe here. Only with more guns.

This will be* my first MMO since a years worth of WoW a while back. The adventure game-like ideas have been the real selling point and I hope they build on that aspect over time.

I really hope this POS laptop can run this (HP DVTR 5). The processor speed meets the basic requirements (barely), but I now have to install Java and bullshit drivers to run this.

Don't worry, I'm not butthurt - I didn't flag the thread either - I'm just asking. It's a pretty relaxed style of moderation we have on the site after all, I'm just not sure how the policy on repeated insults against a specific group of people is here :)

OP's being an elitist scumbag. I don't play or enjoy MMO's or Facebook games, but people who do like them aren't any worse than you or me. If you have fun playing a game there is nothing wrong with it or you.

With that said, I AM interested in The Secret World, but I'll wait for it to eventually hit F2P...which if Age of Conan is any kind of example, that just means it will become a "pay to win" game and I'll give a fuck less about it.

The Illuminati handler is an interesting character to say the least. Ex-Valley girl turned bloodthirsty corporate climber.

I actually like the writing. It's very self-aware and doesn't take itself too seriously. Any game that manages to drop in a The Stand and Left 4 Dead reference in the same quest area needs some recognition.

There's something oddly intriguing about it to me. There is another character from the Illuminati that I interacted with after the ex-valley girl (she calls herself that) and his name is the EYE (or something like that). He makes those weird media references just like she does and it's more creepy than when she does it. It makes me really feel like they're the ones coming up with orchestrating those dumb ass meme's you see on the internet all the time. The way they deliver the lines is great too. Always without a sense of humor to it. Very weird. I like it!

I just want to point out, that it seems from your post you consider Rape Simulation games as a higher quality or form of gaming than MMO's.

Also train simulation games.

And iphone/android games requiring you to flick the screen.

And game show video games.
