I'm actually really looking forward to this game. I never could get into Halo because of the art style but this feels more "gritty" and "grown up".

Only when every article, review, podcast, video feature, and live broadcast on Giant Bomb begins with the words "A Grown Man in His Underwear Tells You About..." will this website have achieved the highest pinnacle of creative achievement.

I can't get off on just jars anymore - I need grown men in underwear.

Funny seeing Destiny in a 360 DVD case on the pre-order website. It never had a chance.

This sounds exciting.

I'd watch a Bungie Violence Documentary.

I think you have to be really crazy or vain to invite a load of journalists to see your latest game, and then resoundingly fail to show them the "game" bit.

Despite them not really being connected, the gear thing (about remembering where you got an item) made me think of Titan Quest a bit. I remember enemies who would drop good equipment actually had it on visually (and even had the stats from it). So if some guy zapped you to hell and back with some lightning staff, he would actually drop it. The fact that this was all randomly generated was pretty neat, as the mods that increased (rare) item drop rate would actually make enemies better geared as well, which was a ton of fun. They're doing the same thing again for Grim Dawn, which is cool.

As for Destiny, the multiplayer sounds original (especially for the genre), but I hope for a Souls-like "invasion" equivalent as well. It would be an interesting addition/opposition to other people being able to help you out in your storyline.

Thanks for your impressions of Destiny, @jeff!

(Though, why was the audio level in this video so low? I had to turn up my speakers to three times what they usually are just to hear you.)

Seems like you had some kind of serious audio issues in your video Jeff, but cool stuff none the less, thanks for the info.

It would have been nice for them to show some concrete gameplay footage, the ViDoc is mostly motion graphics versions of the concept art (most of which leaked months ago) but they do show a little bit of in-engine stuff, no action though just environments and characters running through them. Reminds me of the type of teaser trailers you see from MMOs.

If they aren't actually releasing till 2014 then I can see why their PR plan is so stingy at the moment. Its interesting to hear that the Bungie employees who talked to Jeff seemed surprised themselves that true gameplay footage was not being shown. Which indicates that they believe the game is far enough along to be shown to the public but it is just the PR plan that is holding it back.

Jeff you should get paid by bungie. You did a far better job on creating interest for this game than the 4 minute video from bungie.

Also love absolutely no WiiU mention. It's next generation, isn't it? NO!

"6 player raid," eh? How am I supposed to reconcile this language with Bungie employing Scarab Lord Luke Smith?

6 players is a group. Aint no raid.

It does sound very ambitious indeed, but if they can pull something like this off it sounds like it could be an incredible game. Also sounds like it'd be impossible for current generation consoles to pull something off as expansive as this; we'll just have to wait for the big reveal. This has kind of made me excited about the next generation of consoles though; didn't really care before. I also like the sound of how they're working with the music, and the concept art looks pretty cool. Paul McCartney seems like a bizarre choice, he's a great musician, but it sounds more like a marketing ploy. Beyond that I'll stop judging till I actually hear some of the game's music. I'm excited to see and find out more about this game, guess that was the point of this cock-tease.

With the pictures of their huge, beautiful office and the sheer ambition of this game, along with getting Paul McCartney (a FORMER FUCKING BEATLE, THE BIGGEST BAND OF ALL TIME) to help with the soundtrack, I can't help but feel Bungie might have developed a pretty significant hubris at this point. Getting kind of an Ion Storm vibe from these guys. Hopefully they don't end-up going down the same path Ion Storm did.

The Paul McCartney thing is actually kind of a bummer to me. Video game music is a different sort of thing than standalone songs. There are people out there who are really really good at making music specifically for video games. I would rather they have someone like that doing the OST instead of Paul.

I do like that even though it class based, we can create our own custom characters. That's good for a shooter. I'd love to be able to do that in a future Battlefield game for example.

The guy who's won an awards for his soundtrack and electronica work? Yeah, why would he make a good video game soundtrack? Heh.

Man... they flew in a bunch of journalists to see a press event that contained a some loosely defined ideas of things that may or may not be in the game and some concept art? This is press release stuff, Bungie. You make a website for this sort of thing. You don't need to pull out all the razzamatazz until you've got something for realsies to show, yeah? No?

Can I be honest? I can't feel excited about Destiny. At all. Everything they say about it sounds extremely self-aggrandizing, but generic. And no PC version (more than probably)? Yeah, good luck, Bungie. I'm sure you'll sell copies like crazy, but not to me.

pipeline is such a pretentious business word, it'd make sense for investors to know "we are working." just dumb to tell that to reporters.

This is going to be long and drawn out series of trailers with people overly analyzing screenshots. If it's even going to be up par with borderlands, then it's a tremendous waste of time.

My initial impressions of Destiny, when they were showing those slightly animated concept stills, was that this game had a really cool and fresh look to it. I thought THAT was the in-engine style of this game, a painterly looking FPS, and that seemed kinda cool.

Then they showed snippets of the actual game running, and all that went away. It looks just like a Bungie FPS from my POV. Not that that is necessarily a bad things, it's just that I can tell that the house that built Halo, built this game too. I was hoping that they might try to distance themselves from the Halo art style with this game, apparently not so much.

In the context of an "asset pipeline" it's just as much a technical term, and far from a pretentious one.

"I need to debug our texture pipeline, something is fucking up alpha" vs "we've got some fantastic titles in our pipeline"

That really seems to happen all the time, where a game would greatly benefit by looking more like its concept art. I remember Donkey Kong Country Returns having mind-blowing concept art, but it clearly didn't cross over into the final product (not that it looks bad, but it could look better).

Must be something about the transition into 3D actual models that does it, but there are some games here and there that pull it off (Okami) and I'd love to see more of them.

Look at that, Bungie is making another futuristic shooter with focus on MP that looks somewhat similar to Halo. I'm shocked. Honestly, the concept art looks great (I was somewhat intrigued up to that point) but then they showed those gameplay snippets and my interest in this instantly dropped through the floor. Also, the way Bungie is presenting the game (and itself) is pretty cringeworthy.

I also like the 10 year plan until you realize they're talking about a game on a console, lol. The fact of the matter is - no PC version, no chance of surviving even 2 years let alone 10 and by survival I mean a player base that doesn't consist of 50 people.

Reminds me of Dust 514 or whatever that thing was/is. PS3 only connected to EVE, haven't heard a word since ages about that game, whilst if it was on PC I bet it would be a different story.

I really enjoy this take on video preview coverage and think this could be a format fit for semi-regular installments (unfortunate audio issues aside).

As for the game: looks like it has its well-earned place among all the other pathetic PR stunts in gaming. If the game (or franchise) really is being developed with 10 years of sustainability in mind announcing it now for PS3 and 360 only is fucking crazy. Let alone completely ignoring (and mildly dissing) the one platform uniquely fit for this sort of grand scale. They waited for years, why not let the next gen console conspiracies run their course and start marketing after that's done?

Therefore, at this point, I have no choice but to just cynically assume the few speculations we do have are sugar-coating and meaningless hype. The "always online" function is just DRM (since the scale in any given scenario simply cannot be huge on current consoles, it will be focussed on Halo coop yet again). "No subscription fees" translates to: we don't need them since we're going to exploit micro transactions and become even richer. The huge universe that'll be updated for a fucking decade simply translates to Activision-style yearly products.

Obviously as a fan of Halo 1-3 cooperative popcorn fun I hope my cynicism is just a reaction to a shit publicity stunt. Next time I'm going to pay attention to Destiny is when the new consoles are out and/ or a PC version actually transpires.

I would not put too much stock in this game coming out for the Xbox or PS3. More like activison will take the temptress of the room at the time and see if its worth porting. Also I have zero faith in there being a PC version of this game.
