While this video is brilliant and Giant Bomb at its best, it is made all the better by Sara rolling her eyes at the whole thing in the first 20 seconds then popping on a pair of headphones to drown everyone else out.

I have to question why they are using cabled lapel mics in that situation to begin with. Overhead boom mics would be a better fit in a scenario like that. It would reduce cabling, reduce the number of mics required and therefore have the knock-on bonus of making the mixing process easier as you don't need to balance numerous microphones. It would probably be cheaper too, a couple of decent quality rifle mics would be less expensive than a bunch of these lapel mics, which are liable to getting damaged.

The way Brad broke the mic is the same way how I managed to break 4-5 headsets. I have Astro A40 now and it seems to be somewhat resilience, only made that mistake once. You might wonder how come this happens so often, it's because I usually move from my desktop to lay on my bed without taking off my headset when I watch movies or if I just want to listen to some music. If I'm going to the bathroom or getting something to drink, I always remove the headset first.

If I remember correctly from my A/V days, some lapel mics can be unscrewed so you can reattach any torn off cables. I dont know about any special bit but I have soldered a few mics back together and I know it can be done. But then again, I remember throwing out some busted mics that I could not figure out how to open. We used cheap audio-technica lav mics and Astatic wired mics so that might have made a difference.

If this helps, the mics I was not able to fix had a clearly clamped on casing that had a seam on one end with some teeth that were clearly bent with a machine to ensure a tight fit. The ones that I was able to unscrew were flush all the way around the casing. Essentially it unscrewed like any old XLR or 1/4 inch patch cord. The few lav mics I could fix had a bit more of an edge that let me get a better grip when unscrewing it but it was still fairly difficult. In fact, it broke the same way Brad broke it, the person did not realise that they had a cable under their foot and they stood up. I dont think I've been much help other than to share your frustration.

It could be worse, a wireless transmitter could have broke. Those things are extremely expensive, I remember always treating the single one my school had as delicate as possible. The price of a single one of those was more than all the other equipment we had!

Isn't it time for those wireless boxes they have on TV? I guess they're not worth the cost assuming certain people are more careful in future.

People have been saying this lately, but meh. They're working so it's not like they're waiting for Jeff to notice them. I don't include myself into every conversation that happens near my desk at work, especially if it's something I don't know a whole lot about. Certain people will start complaining that Jeff is wasting time having discussions with Comic Vine when Tony and Sara know only so much about games or tech.

I'm sure they have their conversations when the camera is off.

What, being dependent to the to the point of leaving a comment on a video?

Shut up, I've seen you commenting on shit, and you"re basically the ultimate GB defense force, so reply with something sarcastic and annoying if you want but, I'm not going to bother responding.

Bro, you already responded... too hilarious.

You know my point, and as for you "seeing me around", not sure what you're getting at, you can go to my account and view everything I have ever said. I call people out for being whiny dick holes, sorry if that bothers you. You've got plenty of time to check out my posts since there's such a lack of content today.

Shun the destroyers...shun, shun.

Well if nothing else Vinny can put that microphone back together without connecting it, put some colored electrical tape to mark it & have a hilarious joke microphone to give people that doesn't work.

Wha'ts weird is the gamespot guys have done more features with comicvine than giantbomb. There was the comics based on video games article and the Dark Knight Rises podcast. Would have been nice to have had either Tony or Sara on when they were playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance on TNT a few weeks ago. Ryan knows a bit about comics but they other guys were pretty clueless.

Because Brad's wrong doings can no longer be contained in any one digital space, I've decided that all acts deemed to be erroneous or ill-conceived in nature shall be considered "Pulling A Brad". Police departments across the nation shall have but one code. Code Brad. "Multiple armed suspects were apprehended this evening after pulling a Brad at the First National Bank..." "You are hereby sentenced to three consecutive life sentences for multiple acts of Brad pulling. And may God have mercy on your soul." "Punk Motherfucker stepped to me, so I pulled a Brad on his bitch ass. That's another teardrop."

If you do splice the cable and the 3 wires inside, you should be aware that the ground wiring is often a bunch of loose wires that look like bare copper, but they're actually insulated by a thin layer of plastic. You should burn the plastic off with a lighter before you splice that part. It's mentioned in this tutorial:

http://www.howtogeek.com/62999/how-to-replace-a-stereo-connector-and-salvage-audio-cables-and-headphones/

I've never seen that part you're trying to reconnect the audio cable to.

Good luck!
