I feel that dubstep might have helped this video.

This is a universal truth.

Wagner is rolling in his grave

this is the most hilarious, probably most desperate videogame trailer so far this year

Few Questions.

1. What?

2. This game still exists?

3. What?

Not only are people still playing Everquest 2, people are still playing (and paying monthly fees for) Everquest 1, which apparently just had its 18th expansion pack released in November.

I played EQ1 up to about the fourth expansion, and I played a bit of EQ2 after I got tired of WoW. I actually had a lot of fun with it at the lower levels, and I only stopped playing because none of my friends played it. The game world is much more interesting and has a lot more atmosphere than WoW, which is full of generic fantasy junk that was made up solely to make Warcraft work as an MMO.

So yeah, the game is actually a lot better than you might think (or at least it was good when I played it). I'm surprised EQ doesn't get more respect, having pioneered aggro and crowd control and instances and almost everything else that is part of WoW's core gameplay, though I guess most people who play WoW haven't played EQ...

Even SOE's teaser trailers are low budged and hackneyed.

I haven't played EQ2 since it's release but I'm getting a Second Life vibe from this shit.

The funny thing about EQ2, they built the game around the idea that we (technology) would be adopting quick single-core processors, so even if you have a i7 2600k, the game still chugs badly. Time has not been kind to this one.

Back from late 2003 up until the game's release in late 2004, I was a volunteer editorialist and newsie for the EverQuest II Vault website on IGN. Our team was small, but we were really looking forward to this game, and would gobble up every bit of info released by the devs both for ourselves and to serve the fan community.

The devs would talk about how the graphics were state-of-the-art (by 2004 standards) and that the engine was built to accommodate future advances in graphics technology. In other words, the game would never look dated. In hindsight, I don't think any dev can really make that claim with a straight face. This new trailer just looks...sad.

@Duskwind: By "state-of-the-art" graphics, I assume they mean they bought a license for Poser. Because that's what the graphics have always looked like to me.

Ugh, what did they do to Flight of the Valkyries? T_T That doesn't make me want to play the game and get wings at all!

This was pretty much me the entire time while watching that video. It was like two forces were at work in my brain; one that wanted desperately to understand wtf I was witnessing, the other that kept saying, "No, I don't want this.".. but I couldn't look away.

The fact that there are people still playing EQ2 really shouldn't be all that surprising to anyone. WOW came out right around the same time and obviously it's still being played.

You want to talk about "people still play that?!", just look at Ultima Online. That game came out in goddamn 1997 and still has at least 50,000 active players by conservative estimates.

Those 30 people they thanked... are they the last 30 people playing Everquest?
