Gearbox Is Making a First-Person Shooter/MOBA

Well I guess the most apt comparison for a Moba right now is probably Smite. That's basically a Third Person Shooter MOBA. So I wonder how this game will work.

I want to know how placing and aiming spells will work. Are they all gonna be movement/buff/empowered auto attacks/big AoE around the player and wont require special placement on the map? How does melee work in this set up?

How do creep work, do you get money from just last hitting, or just having to hit them. Or you only get a small amount if you hit them but not the full amount if you last hit them?

As its shown its 5v5 I would assume. Also, what platform is this for? PC?

This. Why would you say something like that, and waht is it even supposed to actually mean? "We do this with love but varying level of skill and investment into it, intermittently, over time"? WHAT?!?

I actually really liked the trailer for the stark contrast with everything borderlands, esp. throughout the first 30 seconds, the saving the bug and atmosphere.. cute, in a not to saccharine way.

Not a fan of the faces (Everquest next?) and the OVERLY caricative nature of costume/body design in most cases. RoboGentleman and Elve where great, but the rest..

I don't get why so many are shitting on gearbox though, I thought all the borderlands where bordering on great, had a great critical and user reception? Did something bad happen I completely missed, or is this just like the people that are actually, truly MAD at Molineux for stuff he "promised" in the past and didn't deliver? Honestly asking..

Another game with another generic title. Yey. And all these MOBAs have a cartoonish look. Give me a MOBA that's dark, gritty and eerie.

I haven't played a MOBA I've liked yet.

Is this actually a MOBA or just a multiplayer action game with NPC enemies?

Kind of like how the Giantbomb staff thinks Dead Island: Epidemic is a MOBA, which it isn't?

Anyways, on point, it's too far out to make any sort of judgement calls whatsoever. And that's the problem, really. OK, we've been given a CG trailer and a name. Great? Bad? It doesn't matter because, let's face it, this is a 2016 release. Gearbox can shout it up as whatever they want and it won't matter until we actually see it in motion well into development. Releasing an announcement trailer this early is pretty damned dumb.

Agreed. Really like what they did in Oblivion though.

I would be 100x More excited about this if this wasn't the 10,000th new moba announced in recent times

Yeah, great tune but it doesn't work with this trailer. It needs something like the Dead Island reverse vibe..

that's quite a soundtrack choice. don't see a lot of M83 in game trailers.

Cue the transition from cool action CGI cutscene to an overhead map view of drones mindlessly walking towards you in lanes as you stare at your cooldowns more than the screen itself.

This does not interest me in any way whatsoever, but at least if they're trying to get in on the moba craze they're at least doing something slightly different with it I guess.

Cool trailer, I guess, but I've no interest in MOBA's and even less in this one.

If this trailer is how those characters will look and how the environments will look then I'm totally into this. As a huge fan of Dota 2 I'm always ready to give a new MOBA a chance.

The art looks pretty neat. I've never played a MOBA, they're just a little too intimidating for me, and from everything I've read/heard the communities are usually pretty hostile to new players; but, if this is "casual" enough I might give it a try.

I have to say the amount of deliberate failure or incompetency wished upon Gearbox is lousy. Compared to a reasoned criticism or saying nothing at all, that kind of negativity is unwarranted. If one does not like Gearbox's attitude or games, that's fine and expressing it as such is fine but to say that they should or are bound to fail categorically because they're making another game does little to add much of anything.

And for the record I am pessimistic toward Gearbox these days given their handling of the Duke franchise, my personal disappointment with BL2, and now the Pre-Sequel and using up TellTale's good talents on Borderlands. Still, games are goddamn hard to make and take too much work to even make most bad ones. So the thought of wishing failure on anyone in this industry is getting into unfortunate territory.

So, after watching that and reading some of the details, is it just me or is anyone else getting a bit of a Super Monday Night Combat vibe from it?

That robot looks straight out of Sir You Are Being Hunted... I really don't care for MOBAs to begin with, and I really don't know how much people who play DOTA or League would actually switch to a new game. I also imagine a Moba in first person being difficult, isn't a big part of a moba surveying the level to strategize? I don't know, seems like a big dumb risk for Gearbox. Which they seem to be really good at getting themselves into.

I agree that M83 feels a little... out of place here? Even if it is a nice song. MOBAs just kind of feel like "this generation's" (Whatever that actually means) MMO. Kind of crazy, really.

A FPS MOBA could be interesting. Except... absolutely nothing about that trailer implied any kind of First Person-ness.
