One thing that's kind of a bummer tho... She doesn't look nearly as awesome as she seemed in the cutscenes I saw so far in SC2. (Where she walked sorta silhuetted?)

I remember when Blizzard gave you all of this content in the original title. My how things have changed since Activision.

There were 30 missions in the original Starcraft. How many missions were in Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty? what are you complaining about exactly?

I love Blizzcon. It's like a tiny Blizzard E3.

Oh, and those new multiplayer units look INSANE.

I`m not sure I like what I saw in this video.. I have always been a fan of Blizzard and ALL its products, but I must say that I am a bit sceptical about what this video present... Kerrigan, in white Terran armor talking about getting back at MInsk(father/son...Whatever), I thought she had a bigger picture than mere vengance.... THE SWARM!!!! ok, I might after all only be speculating about what is gonna go on in HOTZ, but I hope you kick her out of those terrrrren oufits and puts her into her own world!:D

Loved the campaign so much. Looking forward to double down. Not dedicated enough to be really competitive in competitve play, but I'll certainly give it a whirl. Who knows, maybe I'll actually get into it this time around.

It's all part of their evil plan.

They intend to literally make people beg to give them money so no one will have to watch that damn Dead Island trailer ever again.

Well played Whiskey, well played.

Damn, those new Zerg units look hot. I know they almost certainly won't make it to multiplayer, but I only watch that stuff, so I'm quite happy with just campaign additions.

Yeah, it's called blizzcon.

Also, man, this whole Kerrigan storyline is so dumb.

I know, the Kerrigan story is fucking stupid. I wanted Tychus to shoot the btich but instead Jim Raynor had to fuck things up. Also, when did Jim Raynor become such a little bitch? The new Raynor is aweful imo.

Actually the flying grab thing (viper) and the spawn small stuff with those bunkers (swarm lord) are confirmed for multiplayer.

My personal problem here is that Starcraft's gameplay bores me to tears. It's a shame, 'cause I'm really quite interested in the story! Just not to the point where I'm willing to suffer the missions to see the story progress.

That's my dilemma. There's great writing, characters and a very interesting scifi universe in StarCraft. The catch for me is that RTS games are, by their nature, somewhat detached experiences. There's a big disconnect between the intimate character drama of the cutscenes and the "eye in the sky" gameplay that can last for a pretty long time with minimal narrative development. The disassociation between the gameplay segments and the story moments is pretty jarring for me.

I know it would never happen, but I'd love if Blizzard did for StarCraft what Relic did for Warhammer 40K with Space Marine, except not just do a side-story, but instead retell the central storyline from StarCraft, Broodwar and StarCraft 2 in a quality third-person action game. You could maybe play as Raynor and/or Kerrigan for the Terran campaigns, fighting alongside marines and firebats, watching battlecruisers loom overhead. Play as Tassadar or Zeratul for the Protoss section, using those awesome psionic blades. And heck, for the Zerg you could play as any form of the Swarm; switching on the fly as if you were the cerebrate "assuming direct control" to borrow Harbinger's phrase.

To be clear, I wouldn't suggest that Blizzard stop making StarCraft RTS games, just that they might bring the rich fiction they've developed to a different audience and make some serious money in the process, I'm sure.

@Hashbrowns:

Blizzard was developing something like that last generation, called Starcraft:Ghost. The protagonist was Nova, a Terran Ghost (she made a cameo in Starcraft II:WoL and she can be seen in the HotS trailer.). Sadly, the game was canceled.

I can't tell if it's just the roaring music in the background or the game that's getting me so amped for this game. Either way I am super excited now! ...now all I have to do is actually go back and beat starcraft 2. I've started the campaign twice and never finished it. Still in the practice league as well haha.

@spiralsin: True, but with Ghost Blizzard partnered with an outside studio, then switched to another studio when that didn't work, and then finally decided that the game just wasn't matching their standards of quality and then put it on indefinite hold. If quality was the main issue, I say Blizzard should make it themselves.

Now that I think about it, has Blizzard ever made a game with direct character control? Their RTS games and WoW consist of clicking on icons that eventually trigger actions. But a third-person shooter/action game would require immediate and constant gameplay feedback. I'm not sure how to put it, but do you know what I mean? I don't think of how a Blizzard game (RTS or MMO) "feels" in the same way I would evaluate a Gears of War or Uncharted.

That's what impressed me most about Warhammer 40K: Space Marine; I never expected an RTS developer to produce such a polished and satisfying third-person action game, espcially on their first try. I'd like to think Blizzard could do it too.

@Hashbrowns:

Yeah, I think I see what you mean. The last "direct character control" games I recall they made were 2D action platformers from the '90's, Blackthorne and Lost Vikings. Great games for their time. Speaking of Space Marine, I still need to try that.

...but where did you want this to go? She's gonna be pissed off about what happened. If she just gathered the swarm and attacked humanity in general, yay, we have the original starcraft story again. If she stayed the queen of blades and either A)attacked humanity again or B) teamed up with the Toss and Terrans to take on a common enemy then, yay, we have the original starcraft story again.  Jim feels shitty about what happens. I'd rather that then another hard as nails, doesn't give a crap cliche character. Yeah this story has its own boatload of cliches but everything kinda makes sense.

That's because Space Marine wasn't Relic's first action title. That would be the Outfit, which sadly didn't turn out so well.

Have Blizzard ever made a game whose story wasn't riddled with cliches? If you're buying a Blizzard game, you can be sure of two things:

  1. Excellent gameplay, polished to perfection.
  2. "Epic" storylines, relying on the most well-trodden cliches in sci-fi and fantasy.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Sure, it's another story about revenge but seriously, who expects Kerrigan to just "let bygones be bygones"? This has been building up since Mengsk betrayed and left her to die horribly in Starcraft 1. She survived by becoming the Queen of Blades, but she lost everything she held dear in her former life. Who would blame her for wanting some measure of payback? I would be disappointed if she didn't.

As for Jim, I also agree that his conflicted feelings for Kerrigan are much more interesting than some cliched "I don't give a shit" attitude. Maybe I'm a little sappy, but I liked that he got the girl back in the end. Who doesn't like a crazy love story?

Pretty excited for this. The campaign looks nice, especially as I am a zerg player, with some cool mechanics. The new units and upgrades may address a lot of issues I have in my games, as well as some common tactics I use against terran or protoss (a lot better counters for muta player should give us more reason to expand our builds). Swarm Host seems cool, but the execution is a bit lacking right now...it takes a REALLY long time for it to spawn locusts.

Viper on the other hand, is just awesome in every way.

She's had psionic powers since day one when she was a former Ghost. That's why the Zerg Overmind transformed her into the Queen of Blades to begin with.
