I wonder what other people thought to go for it.

I actually wanted him to bash Kenny's head in. After numerous episodes of him not helping Lee in dangerous situations and constantly whining about everything, I was completely fed up with him.

Well this has no emotional impact because Clem is dressed completely wrong... hmph...

How does she get that hoodie? I keep seeing it in these recap videos, and Clem in my game never had it. She just had her standard dress, except at some point she magically gained leggings and sleeves (maybe around the start of episode 2 because it's suddenly fall).

Do you get the hoodie if you steal from the station wagon, LIKE A COMMON THIEF?

@idlehands:

I can see your point but I just think she didn't need to shoot him to know how to protect herself. At the start I tried to shield her from everything, sugar coating every situation because she was just a kid, but as it went on I started to tell her more of the hard truth because I knew she couldn't survive thinking everything would always be ok. I feel as though she knew enough by the end without putting her through the horror of putting a bullet in Lee's head. She had killed someone already, held her own against walkers so I knew she would be ok.

To me, ending it with Lee being left might make Clem think before she shoots (I know this could go against her at some point if someone means to hurt her) while ending it with shooting Lee might make her more ruthless (which could also go against her if someone is genuinely trying to help her).

Even though I do think shooting him is cold I can see why people did it, to prepare her for all the terrible things she inevitably will have to face. But I just feel that Lee prepared her for that without her having to obliterate her innocence entirely in the process.

@KamikazeKritter: That's commendable and all, but even since Chuck gave the rude wakening of reality, you know that her innocence is just a distance fantasy. With Lee still alive and kicking all the time, maybe we can still spare her innocence and let Lee do all the dirty work and flower it up with words. But when she has to go on by herself she has to know how to protect herself instead of her innocence. It's a tough call but that's what I've convinced myself is the best option in the end.

I'm surprised by how many people cut off Lee's arm. I didn't, and it wasn't even a close choice for me.

The Walking Dead comics and the TV show have a bit of a track record with cutting off limbs to stop the effects of the bite, so I had reason to believe it might work. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have done it.

I don't really mean this in a aggressive or insulting manner, but I can't figure out how to word it otherwise. It was a significant amount of time (for the purposes here, more than a couple minutes tops) between the bite and when the decision came up. If you seriously thought it would make a difference by that point, then you've got problems. Presumably you'd make that decision based on zombie fiction (medical science is pretty clear on the fact ruling out that avenue) and thus you'd also know it only makes a difference if you instantly cut off the limb, not wait around a bit before doing so.

There is, quite literally, no scenario in which you (as the player) could come to the conclusion that cutting it off long after the fact would make a difference. Whichever way you learned about that option (scientific fact or zombie fiction) both reject the idea in this instance.

Edit: The fact that cutting off the arm does make a positive difference in the game (although not to the point of saving his life) is just bogus compared to everything else out there, even in the Walking Dead fiction. Was really quite insulting when I found out that fact.

I had them cut Lee's arm off. This wasn't because I expected Lee to not end up a zombie. The bite was going to bring him down, but maybe by chopping off the limb he'd be given some extra time to find and rescue Clem. While I haven't read every issue of the comics, I have read a good 75+ and don't recall anything that indicates amputation would not slow down zombification. There are definitely situations where timing is critical for preventing zombification, but nothing that says you won't get a few more hours/days from amputation. It's especially iffy when you consider the rate people turn from a zombie bite isn't consistent.

If cutting off Lee's arm, a man who has essentially been given a death sentence, might provide some more time to protect a little girl, then my version of Lee would chop it off.

You can make the argument that Nazi Zombie mode in Call of Duty is the vastly superior zombie product, but c'mon. It’s different when it’s a woman, this is over the line, and Reznov should have known better.

@wewantsthering:@EpicSteve: It was a pretty cold move in my opinion.

I told her to leave because I wanted her to hold onto her humanity and to always think about when it's best to pull the trigger on someone.

I don't think that shooting Lee would necessarily make her stronger, and if it did she still would have lost part of herself so would it be worth it? To me, it felt like it would change her too much...

I don't want Clem to lose who she is...

Disagree. While it's a shitty thing to do, it's probably the best thing you can do to prepare her for what she may have to do in the future. I think the most merciful thing you could have done would be to kill Clem, and then yourself, but the game doesn't even give you the option to do that.

I also got her to shoot me. She's had enough with her parents being outside; I didn't want her to go through that with Lee. Make sure, teach her to always remember it's better a loved one is gone than they are trying to eat you.

@Random45: Clem's killed walkers, faced starvation, seen human meat, been kidnapped, keep her cool and dispatched of her abductor, and seen her dead parents come back she's plenty ready the the awful new world. She'll undoubtedly have to kill other loved ones down the road; she doesn't need to kill Lee.

Maybe I didn't need to be mentally cross-referencing the show and game, but cutting off a limb in the show seems to have worked for someone. I knew Lee had let too much time pass, but any chance I could give Lee to have more time, I owed it to Clem to take it...

It was a decision I struggled with and made the call in the moment and I'm actually surprised it's the same call that most people made (especially since I only had Kenny with me and not a big crowd of disapproving faces to guilt me in to it).

EDIT:

Thought process: Lee is doomed anyway, this may or may not help, and any chance I can take - even the slightest - that would keep Lee alive longer to find Clem is the right choice. "This probably won't help" is definitely a thought that went through my head while Kenny was busy cutting.

This. It's easy to shoot zombies you don't know and psycopathic kidnappers who try to kill you and your only caretaker. Lee arguably taught her more with his death than he did through the rest of the game.

Is it just the TV series that establishes that being bitten/scratched has nothing to do with turning ? Seems like a pretty easy choice if you have that context...

Also "70 GOTY"... really... I'd like to see how inflated that list is. Counting it up and bragging about it just seems tacky.

I had her do it in service of the story. Lee had been her teacher and guardian throughout the entire game, and I thought, as ugly as it might be, Clem needed to learn that hard times will bring hard decisions. I didn't want Clem going back out into that world without being able to do the hard thing.

This, and since I like to get into the stories, I thought it was necessary for clem to have closure with Lee, unlike what she got from her parents.

A thousand times this. I figured it was the last lesson to teach, and in the game I've put self preservation above mercy above everything else. This is both. Shoot me, preserve yourself, show me mercy. It's the tough choice, but it was what I felt was the right choice to let her go out in that world and have the best chance of surviving.

I can't play this game, so I've read instead. I paid for the game, so don't be too put off by my asking this.

Why didn't Lee kill himself? I think that would be the real adult human tendency..ppl. do it all the time. A friend of mine did (drunk and depressed), unfortunately, years ago. I will also say this, I was rooting for Lee as much as Clem. For some reason I reallly liked his charactor for the time I did play..part 1 and 2 of the chapters. And also saw that one good female charactor killed in a trailer( that did me in). But I really pullled for Lee, I did not want to see him come out as the sacrifice. Not that was fair to some of the others. Kenny for example actually seemed real to me, everyone looks out for themself at times.

But Lee should of have done the job himself, some caring, instructions and his possessions to Clem and told her to look away, whiskey if possible perhaps for not caring and...just saying. She would need the gun afterwards.

That was not an easy world.

What the hell, that's bollocks. Fuck this game then.

Wasn't it already established that everyone in this universe is already infected? Since the disease is airborne and whatnot. I read somewhere that the only reason bites are bad in the Walking Dead universe is because they carry all sorts of disease and infections with them. I might be wrong though.

Also, I think the game glitched out on me and made it so that I lost my temper with Kenny. I didn't throw the bust at all.

The bite is what kills you. Yes, everyone turns when they die, but if you're bitten it means a swift death within days, or hours.
