Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Footage, Now in English!

I'm not sure how "for money" enters into it here. Kiefer costs more, and people buy video games "for celebrities" about as much as five year old kids want to see Tangled "for celebrities". It's just not the "core demo'" as they say. So where is this money actually coming from? Arad's film company for a movie that is still 3 years away? If it ever actually releases I'll be impressed. We all know how these things go.

I'm more inclined to believe it really is ego and prestige on the part of Kojima. Osuka is, bar none, one of the biggest names in Japan's entertainment industry. Hayter... is a screenwriter that I like, and an actor that I never see. I'm a fan of the man and yet I still always need to look up what else he does... Solid Snake is kinda the star outlier on his resume, I think. Not so for Osuka and not so for Kiefer. Sutherland is one of very few western actors who has the right persona for Big Boss, but does he look the part? Kojima wants Viggo Mortenson.

I'm not going to think of Sutherland as Solid Snake, and anyone who feels Solid Snake and Big Boss are symmetrical characters really doesn't grasp the lore, in my opinion. Solid Snake is still Hayter. And if Solid Snake does even appear in MGSV somehow, which I haven't even heard of, I won't even be surprised if the long con has Hayter showing up after all. It's just that fucked up in Hideoland. ;)

The "kepchuwaitingHUH" line delivery is pretty bad. It was a bad call to replace David Hayter.

Can barely even hear kiefer over the stupid effects. It just sticks out and grates on me, there's no gravity behind his voice, and if you cast him based entirely on his capacity for facial expression, maybe show a trailer that focuses on his face more than once and don't have so much contrapuntal dialogue.

I love MGS, but this is pretty hard to swallow. Luckily I speak Japanese and Otsuka is still as good a Snake as he ever was.

I'm sure someone else has already stated this theory but at some point Big Boss and Solid Snake are going to have to bump in to each other which would make it difficult for Hayter to voice both characters. I except to hear his voice at some point towards the end of this game.

Sutherland sounds fine, I actually like it.

Skullface though didn't sound good at all.

I passed on Mgs 4. I agree with Scoops in that the best ones are 1 and 3... I will most pass on this game as well. The best part of this is I can sound like a crazy fan boy later or saying things like "It was so messed up... they even changed Snakes voice!"

Gah he sounds so wrong! He's gotten older survived more battles, bench pressed tanks, fought monsters, smoked Cigars most all his life and SOMEHOW he sounds less gruff.

Kiefer has a cool voice and I think he's doing a great job here, the game looks and sounds great

@scott757: That's the thing that still is confusing even to people who have followed every bit of news. I'm not exactly sure but I believe it's something like MGS2 where you had the tanker chapter and then the big shell chapter. Don't quote me on that ,though.

Solid Snake later introduced, voiced by David Hayter, I mean.

To me, it seems painfully obvious that at some point in either this or MGSV that Solid Snake will appear and that a new voice actor was chosen to differentiate the two characters when they are together. Its kind of like the opposite way they went with Liquid Snake/Ocelot taking up the same body and then diverging into a single voice actor.

Sutherland sounds okay in the role, it'll take time for me to adjust.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ground Zeroes is supposed to serve as a prologue to The Phantom Pain. Still no clue on whether or not they're both on the same disc or if they'll be sold separately (possibly a Dead Rising 2: Case Zero / Dead Rising 2 sort of thing?).

One of the reasons I really hated Peace Walker, even though I enjoyed the mechanics, was that it vilified and destroyed my favorite character in it, Paz. Hearing that she may still be alive, I'm all in for this game, Southerland or no.

...Though I will admit hearing his voice coming out of Snake's mouth is a little off-putting.

The only thing that bothers me is the inferred highly convoluted story, though of course I know it going in. It's just when they start talking about it making perfect sense, it reminds me of that guy with weird hair- internet meme who always going 'I'm not saying a bunch of bullshit, but It's a bunch of bullshit.'.

Yeah the new VO is fine, it is just awkward and unnecessary.

Dont get why they would get Kiefer, hes gotta cost more I would think. So much love for Hayter changing it seems fucking stupid.

You know it's weird. The whole inspiration for Solid Snake/Big Boss was Snake Plissken from the Escape movies. David Hayter did a good job as a pseudo-Snake Plissken voice but I have to say that Keifer (from what I've heard so far) actually does that pseudo-Snake Plissken voice better.

Kiefer will never be Solid Snake or Big Boss in our minds, but I think he gets closer to the source inspirations.

Kinda like how Timothy Dalton as James Bond was.

I grew up listening to david hayter as snake since the first metal gear solid on PSX, it so weird not hearing the snake that I have known since 1998. I didn't think it would matter but it does!!!!!!

Yup, the disconnect of hearing Sutherland's voice and seeing Snake will take some getting used to. Oddly enough I'm more comfortable with the Japanese voice actor than either Sutherland or Hayter right now.

Deep down, I still believe this is gag by Kojima taken all the way to the extreme. Either that or Hayter is gonna voice a young David.

I started to shake with angst the moment Kiefer's name appeared onscreen. This is such an unimportant issue in the grand scheme of video-games, let alone life; yet my heart feels broken. I won't be able to play this in English.

I've heard Hayter too long as Snake and Sutherland too long as Jack Bauer. As of now I can't separate the two.

I know it seems kinda ridiculous to say this is a deal-breaker, but it was definitely taking me out of it . . . Skullface didn't sound too great either. Maybe there could just be a Japanese language option!
