@BBQBram: I don't think it's the same thing. This is just a "GOTY" version with all the DLC. If you bought the original game and all the DLC you do not need this one. Capcom's stuff is usually all-new, so if you bought the original MvC3 you need to buy UMvC3 to get all the characters and modes.

The guy in the trailer made it pretty clear that they are making this to work with the original version of the game as well. The emphasis he put on that was almost directly aimed at the lack of foresight Capcom has had with their games - releasing fighting games without the proper pieces required for them to update and release new characters. Though part of me believes that there is no ignorance on Capcom's behalf, but rather that they've discovered a borderline gross way to release nearly the same game twice, in a way that forces fans to 'update' through dropping another entrance fee.

What's the point in re-releasing a game that already had a ton of problems that were never properly addressed or fixed?

Ah. Money.

GGPO says hi. Not going anywhere near this mess... um, again.

In this case, it is. All you are arguing is syntax which is entirely irrelevant.

So, they are releasing a game that is already out, with dlc characters that are already out.

That's cool that the dlc characters will be in future disk copies of the game, but did you really need to make a promo video for it? You aren't doing anything special here, you are re-packaging a game.

"If you have the old game and you want to buy the new game you'll have everything there for you right away."

Is there actually some arduous process for accessing the MK DLC that would cause someone to re-buy the game as a matter of convenience?

Im guessing they keep repeating that point b/c when they released the DLC the first time, it was busted b/c people weren't downloading the compatibility packs so no one could use their DLCs online.

So now the DLC should work without having to jump through hoops.

Nah, it was fine, but it kind of ruined playing online with a host of problems playing with others that may or may not have the DLC. I bet much of the work they did was to make sure that was all clean this time around.

Makes me want to play some more. Except for the last fight, the story mode is amazingly good.

This gives me a reason to buy the game again, on 360 this time. I bought it on PS3 for Kratos, but getting "trophies" never felt as good as achievements, and all of my friends were on 360. Never got any of the DLC, so this should be pretty good.

It's essentially the same as Borderlands, Fallout 3, LA Noire, Gears of War 2, RE 5, Star Wars TFU, New Vegas, Red Dead Redemption or Arkham Asylum releasing a full edition a year after their original release.

It's a common practice and a great way to rope people to get the game who didnt the first time, while still not screwing over people who did.

It is literally not different than buying the GOTY edition of a game like Modern Warfare or Batman: Arkham Asylum, where they just put all the DLC on the disc and don't make you pay for it. I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Pretty much. This is just a nice deal for those who didn't get the game already, or people like me who'd rather just have the extra content on disc.

What Capcom did with Super SF4 and Ultimate MVC3 is straight up exploitative.

I love what they say in interviews like these. "It's for the fans.. it's for the fans" ROFL.. What the Witcher 2 is doing with their Enhanced Edition (free for everyone) is FOR THE FANS.

Lack of foresight seems a weird accusation to levy against Capcom in regards to Mortal Kombat's ability to be be "upgraded". This was at times a nightmare to get working online.

Yeah, this doesn't compare to what Capcom does at all. The only similarity is that they are both fighting games. Publishers/developers have been doing this for decades, meaning bundling expansions/DLC with the original game. It happened with Duke 3D, Quake, etc. so it's a long standing practice. What Capcom does that's different is that they try to make you buy the original game over again WITH the DLC. Multiple times.

@bwmcmaste: I know some people who are actually quite good at SF4 on keyboard. I have a gamepad myself, and have been waiting for some word on a PC version of this since release, as I don't have a 360 or PS3. It's really no different from the editors talking about playing Skyrim with a gamepad on PC for the updated graphics.

Seems to me the guys making fun of Capcom about their numerous releases of fighting games don't actually play the games themselves, or if they do, they don't understand the intricate nature of the changes made between each version. I'm not going to say that they're huge changes, because even I am miffed that they couldn't have just patched the changes instead of making me pay for the changes, but they do make a difference if you know what to look out for. The fact that some characters in the first version of the game were flat out not worth playing because they were terrible, but now we're at a point in Street Fighter 4 where every character has a legitimate chance of winning shows that it was some worth. Again, patches would be nice, but with new characters, new tournament modes etc, can see why it wasn't.

@BBQBram:

1. All this content is available as DLC for those who already purchased the game.

2. This edition works alongside the original edition unlike Capcom where the original versions are made completely irrelevant upon the release of the new version.

Capcom is stuck in previous console generation mindset where DLC was not much of an option. They really need to get with the times.

"Every Fighter Into The Ring?" Did they mean every fighter available in MK 9 or like MK: Armageddon where they included every single fighter in the MK universe?
