Imagine that.... women... what next? Likin the facewash features... I've always wanted the feature of after the whistle you mess with people and screw with the goalie and actually have retribution... bout time man!

First person fighting though....little weird.

I've been contemplating getting a NHL game for a while now...and this seems like a good one to start with. Lets hope it stands up to NHL Hits 2002...doubt it though :P

Looks pretty good, might pick it up because the last year version was so highly regarded.

Can't say I give a shit about women in the crowd though, lol.

The refinement for the goalies is huge. A lot of people found if you lobbed the puck up over the goalie's head, it was an instant goal because the goalie had no animations to turn around and stop a shot behind them.

I for one am excited about the addition of the boardplay features!

As a person who never plays as any team but San Jose, I try to employ the cycle as much I can, and obviously the puck physics allow me to use the boards to make passes, and to get the puck behind the net, but it doesn't play out how the cycle really works in hockey. You can't just run and smash a guy into the glass when he's got the puck in the corner, you'll leave yourself open and he'll have two passing options: to the point or behind the net. This will allow me to make these passes when my player's skates are free but his stick isn't.

Another new feature will nerf the phenomenon of players using the diving pokecheck to kill breakaways. In real hockey, this can disrupt a breakaway, but it rarely kills it. And the NHL's biggest stars: Ovechkin, Malkin, and (cover athlete) Kane have all scored absolutely incredible goals from their knees and from their backsides.

If someone scores a goal like this on me, I'll fight the desire to rage quit :p

@Atomasist: Perhaps not.. but it sure helps.

This looks really good.. might actually be the first EA hockey game I buy since NHL 2002.. NHL 2K7 was incredibly buggy and was such a let down, I'm never buying another 2K Sports game again.

i'm consistently impressed by the improvements EA manages to make every year. hopefully the online play won't devolve into NHL09's "cheat and lame to win" strategy. Dude you can score goals from your knees? Sold.

First person fighting is going to be terrible.  If that view was any fun, wouldn't boxing games like fight night or punch out be using it?

Number of points to be made here. Looks great and I can't wait. Fighting does look good...for all those people saying it looks terrible, how would you know you never even played the game?

Love all of the improvements. What some of you might not know is they finally put a dedicated group of people to work solely on Dynasty Mode, and another team for goalie animation. As well as a team to fix all those glitch goals you saw in nhl09 online. Can't wait!

Wait, hang on, they're rewarding the fighting now? I always thought it was stupid that hockey video games simulated the fighting at all. I personally think that they should go with the rule from football: throw a punch, and you're out of the game.

Of course, this is mainly because I don't follow hockey and I would enjoy listening to hockey fans bitch about something that should have been done decades ago.

@Atomasist: Why are you being an asshole?.... Wait nevermind...I read yer post wrong ahaha I thought you meant you had to be drunk in order to talk to a Canadian, as in we are annoying blaahahahaha

Though...we're usually drunk so maybe being drunk to understand us is true. In any event, if yer ever around Toronto, let's get drunk! ;)

Fighting isn't overtly rewarded in the game, but by your teammates being "fired up" from watching you win a fight (obviously if you lose it will have the opposite effect; this system was in place for NHL '09 as well). It's the game's way of representing the psychological effect that a fight can have on a team, for better or worse. Also, despite the underlying benefit of getting the rest of the guys on your team psyched up, win or lose, any player who fights will receive a five minute major penalty. This makes fighting factor into a team's strategy when you realize that targeting a key player on the opposing side for a fight could potentially remove that threat from the game for a full five minutes, allowing for some important scoring time.

This is all actually a part of real world hockey, and every team in the league has a player on their roster whose primary objective is to start fights with opposing skaters (usually referred to as "agitators"). Also, should the agitator get in over his head, most teams have players considered to be "enforcers," a term usually used to describe a 6'4", 270+ pound dude barreling across the ice to slam the shit out of you because you socked his teammate.

Fighting in hockey has been and always will be a hot-button topic, but like it or not, it's here to stay. Personally, I think the fact that EA is trying to incorporate more of the spirit of sports into their video game counterparts is awesome and look forward to NHL '10.

Fighting is a part of the competitive nature and spirit of hockey. It's hard nosed, grinding, gritty and full of energy. People watch boxing and UFC because they love to root for someone to come out on top. And what better way than when you physically dominate a competitor? Fights don't usually break out for no good reason. IF they do it's usually because the team needs a boost of confidence and some adrenaline pumped back into their system. Same with the crowd. But they usually break out because some dork needs to be put back in line for nagging or injuring someone else, you know what you'd want to do in any event if someone was hammering away at someone in your family. In fact fighting in hockey is one of the most human and honorable things in sports. Sure there's possibility of injury but there is that possibility in any event or sport. But when it comes down to it it's commradery, support, and justice behind most fights. Now if it's just two douchebags that want to bang heads, then by all means it's silly...but it still is entertaining. And you cannot deny that.
