Skyrim Marathon Pre-Show - Part 01: Morrowind

Stoked to see some Morrowind. After finally finishing it in September, I can safely say that it's my favorite video game, but I know it's really hard to go back to.

A couple thoughts:

- Anyone playing Morrowind on a modern machine should take the time to set up the Morrowind Graphics Extender with the "Distant Lands" option on (Thx Butano, forgot the mod name). Basically, it's full scale draw distance, amazing water, and shrubbery even on far away hills. I get why you guys couldn't on the spur of the moment. It's really hard to configure compared to most Morrowind mods, depending on what your card supports, and you will need a custom loader rather than Bethesda's .EXE. But it's worth it. Looks newer than Oblivion.

- Obviously this game's a slow burn and the poor, simplistic combat is inexcusable. But I'm glad you got far enough to see a Dwemer Ruin. And a Sleeper, after passing by the Balmora one over and over without being accosted. The whole Sixth House / Dagoth Ur thing remains the most chilling antagonist I've ever seen in a video game - I mean, Vivec and Dagoth Ur is already part of prehistory and legend by the time you reach Vvardenfell, and the way it slowly picks up on you is something never attempted elsewhere. I can't imagine anyone could forget what comes later, if they've finished the game. Some of the Sixth House designs must have come straight from nightmares.

This series of videos is one of my favorites on GiantBomb. Great stuff!

Ooooooh, Morrowind. I'll love this game with all my heart until the day I die.

Oh, Morrowind. I remember the countless hours I spent on it, more than Oblivion. I feel Skyrim might overtake it.

Dave sure does love using female characters. So much disappointment when Ryan said the name Slim James, and so quick with the name Lady Ritz.

Morrowind was the game that got me into RPGs when I was younger. I can't count the number of times I played through it.

This is the perfect thing to watch at work throughout the day before I go home and play Skyrim all weekend.

42:00 nudity intact, wonder why 3&4 went up first. Is there lower nudity later? Lol.

Didn't morrowind sell like 4mil? Was quite huge, and 10 times better than Oblivion. Hope skyrim bring back some of morrowinds goodness!

Ah, Morrowind. One of the cornerstone RPGs of my childhood.
