Some tips for you cool kids:

Brad says: "I've got the patrol missions, but I want to find something more interesting."
Ryan then says: "Yeah, let's get some ground missions."
 
And these are two of several reasons I'm finding STO a bit boring.  The amount of space combat there is is just too much, and most of the missions seem to be the patrols.

 The reason why you had so much trouble with the Ambassador quest was because encounters will scale depending on how many people are in your party, REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY AT THE PLANET WITH YOU. So if you are in a party of 5, but you are the only one on-site for the battle, the enemies will be scaled as if your entire party is present with you. Since you warped in with 4 other people on your team, you were attempting to solo enemies which were meant for a full party of 5. 

Next time, while you are still in sector space (ie. the Tron area), make sure you are not on a team, and re-enter the area. That particular quest is definitely solo-able.

I think the difficulty in the game is still a  little jenky. Since you were teamed with 4 other guys, they jacked up the difficulty on that mission you ran into the klingons.

I have the greatest respect for Brad rolling with his reputation and dealing with everything that's associated with it.

Another thing to note Brad, if you press "C" on ground you enter a combat stance that makes you do more damage but move a little slower.  It brings the camera in over your shoulder.

Brad, if you hold both mouse buttons down to fly you can turn much easier.  I find that I can turn my thrusters down to about 50% and still maneuver just fine.

I think what makes this so amazing is the hundreds of references they all make. Especially because I get all of them. This definitely does make me want to obtain a copy once this comes out, though.

The ambassador mission is like the one in kei. But, in that one you had 4 guys helping you. I can't finish kei because I am doing it alone. Nobody loves me ;(

endurance run this thing.

I wish they would play more MMORPGs and do these mini-series. Even if they aren't completely new, just give it a run. I could care less about the game, just that we have these kinds of videos. :D

Coffee and some GiantBomb - I'm in love.

This game is very buggy Brad, hence why there were so many ships that you couldn't beat. It scaled the difficulty up because you entered the system with 4 party members. Even if they aren't present, it will scale it up. So next time if you're done with a party leave the group.
I found this out the hard way when we had a social party going on with a few GB members, and all of us were getting raped on our personal quests. We ended up sticking to Fleet chat because the game is just too Beta-y. :-(

Just FYI the missions scale based upon the number of people in your party at the time of zoning into the mission area. If you have 4 people in your party 1 person will not be able to take out a 4 person spawned mission., atleast not without a crapload of time and work. 
 
All missions scale like this also. So enter with just one person and you will be ok. There will not be as many enemys and they will not be as tough. 
 
Oh its also worth pointing out that a lot of mission areas if you go in them solo it will give you the option to group up with other people doing the mission. Doesn't always work but sometimes it does.

The novelty of this game sounds like it has worn off the crew.

If you have an EVE background like me, the game will feel shallow and unrewarding.

It is just too dumbed down and the space combat feels clunky.
If you fancy yourself a intellectual player you might just wanna pass this one up.
 
If you are familiar what Cryptic did for Champions to the super hero MMO (Yeah lotsa those around)
They did go further with it for the space MMO with this one.

My favorite Star Trek uniform is the later DS9 uniform.
