SWERY in the Coffee

This is well done, a little shorter than I would like, but good nonetheless. Having translation coming in one ear and the original language the other seems pretty tough.

I know nothing about Swery or Deadly premonition but he has some sweet glasses so he gets a pass from me.

I am not a huge fan of Deadly Premonition, by I am a huge fan of this man. I can always respect a developer that really loves what he is doing and SWERY always puts out that feeling.

Very enjoyable interview @patrickklepek. I never cared what the whiners say, you will always be top notch in my book.

SWERY took a lot of pics in San Fran, he was all over the place.

That hot coffee reference at the start went into some weird territory.

Ugh, Deadly Premonition is a bad game. I get it. This running joke stopped being funny after the third ER episode.

I'm not sure if anybody's really that desperate to go through 11 pages of comments to find a transcription, but here's what I came up with anyway. Fixed some of the grammer out of habit, but most of it should be word for word.

Answer 1: After the release of the original version of Deadly Premonition only for Xbox 360, but it was a pity that he couldn't bring this fantastic game to the PS3 owners. So this time he had a chance from the producer to bring this game to the PS3 owners so he was so happy to have such a chance.

Answer 2: First of all, he didn't want to make a big change from the original version, but after the release of the 360 version, he received feedback from the western market, some of them were very positive from the core fronts, some of them had kind've negative comments because the graphics were not so good or some things like that. So first off, he wanted to improve on those points and he decided to bring out this director's cut. He decided to fix the controls because so many fans were complaining about it, so he decided after listening to the voices from the fans.

Answer 3: Also he decided to add this new scenario. In this new scenario, he brought a completely new character. But he didn't want to destroy the main story, the main original gameplay, so he decided to add the new story as a lot of new cutscenes, so he decided to insert the new cutscenes throughout the games. For those core fans who played the original version, they will be able to get a kind of new translation (interpretation?) after they watch the new scenarios because he added a new ending as well.

Answer 4: It's correct to be cross to the fans because sometimes he can't recognize what is good or what is bad. He received comments like "I don't like the QTEs in premonition," this time he decided to fix those QTE scenes so that the player can much more easily clear this game.

Answer 5: Of course he's thinking of various things, maybe getting back to the CKers (seekers?) or something, and jumping into the new titles, but at the moment he feels as though everyone is pushing him to bring York to the next game. Yes, he's enthusiastic to come back to the Deadly Premonition world, but he'd like to get a chance to do that.

Answer 6: There are so many fans who is loving Deadly Premonition, some of them saying "please don't change anything, even if it was very bad like some kind of control or graphics, because it is kind of a charming point of Deadly Premonition." And of course he is so pleased to hear such kind of comment as well, but it's been two years now, he's kind've grown, and is now thinking that he has to change or improve this Deadly Premonition. Some of the fans may complain about it, but he's the director and it's his game as well. (Second half of that sentence may be wildly inaccurate.) Trust me.

Answer 7: He had so many issues during the development. This game was going to be cancelled four times. But after those troubles, he finally reached to the release date. He can remember the day this game came out; that was so impressive day. He's saying so.

Closing statement: This game will be available in the last week of April in North America. Thank you.

@dr_mantas: It's a sad state of affairs that what was one of the more mature video game orientated communities (especially compared to another larger website) has been mired into bitching about staff rather than provoking thoughtful commentary on the games themselves. It's also ridiculous that people ask why Patrick was doing this when the guys clearly stated what they had planned for the week on the Monday video segment! @Jeff for example stating he was in meetings all week and Patrick being the one who mentioned about Swery being in the area.

While it'd be awesome if old names from the past like Matt, Carrie and Rich were involved with the website, it seems they forget that it's not a home-made youtube channel, it's a business, and they have to justify people being on staff for more reason then just being a personal friend! Not to mention I'm pretty sure Rich and Carrie both left journalism and went into game development of their own accord!

As Jeff's home videos are behind the paywall and it's a fine balancing act of coming across as pompous and turning away advertisement clicks, it'd still be an idea for Jeff and Ryan to address this issue and in-turn perhaps convince some people to sort their behaviour out!

There needs to be a distinction - I love having Patrick on the staff, because he writes about issues he feels are important. And it's what this site is based on - the staff are all personalities, and they talk about what's important for them.

That's why I don't understand the blind bashing at near-mention of Patrick's name.

However, it's completely valid to disagree with their viewpoint, and discuss why you think their ideas are flawed, in the appropriate places, like comments. I didn't like people bashing Patrick for writing that one article, but I also didn't understand the blind vitriol of people directed at anyone expressing dissenting ideas.

Don't mix those two groups together. Patrick is great. But you don't have to agree with him all the time :)

But that just makes it more of a bitch fest. It has been proven time and time again that the idiots who use every opportunity to trash Patrick won't be convinced to at least shut the fuck up about their opinion, or at the very least not post it on every fucking video he's in. Seriously, it's the same people every time, bitching about Patrick. Believe me, I've tried to argue with some of these people, and it just brings more attention to their internet warrior mentality.

I kinda wish the interpreter would have kept on saying SWERY instead of he, would have made SWERY even more of a badass.

Really can't wait! I fell in love with the game only having watched the Endurance run, but I lacked a 360 to be able to experience it for myself. Glad to finally have a chance to do so. I don't normally pre-order games, but I make exceptions for a select few standouts.

I think it's fine to not like a member of staff, I'm not necessarily fond of Patrick's personality, but when it comes to bitching about him at every opportunity, it really does just ruin the site for everyone. I spoke up about not liking the way Patrick hates on stealth games, and I also don't particularly enjoy his sexism posts. I think the thought is there, but I really don't think he's going about it a great way either.

It's fine to disagree with a staff member, I don't think any of the staff would even bother about it naturally, but when he is in a SHORT interview, where it all goes well and there is still animosity, it's a bit ludicrous.

Also, to users who are saying "DON'T LIKE IT? GO SOMEWHERE ELSE", you're being just as childish. Not really liking one member of staff doesn't mean they hate everything about the site.

What Do I Need To Know Before Using The Site?

The primary rule here is don't be a jerk. Everyone is expected to treat one another with respect as well as to respect the site and its features and the various members of staff and moderators who help run it.

I'm just going to leave this right here. Seems like some people need a reminder.

This was an enjoyable interview, always good to hear from SWERY.

Also did I hear him mention a new ending? I am totally going to get this just to see that. Some how the original was perfect, for how crazy and left field it was, I don't know how that masterpiece could be changed.

I would imagine it's horrible for Patrick to have to read all this rubbish from detractors on this website every time he appears and shows his strength of character that he still volunteers to be involved in things like this! It also confuses me as to why people would want less content on a site that some of us pay a subscription for! When Vinnie has to resort to tweeting that he stands behind Patrick as a member of staff as he did a week or so ago, the situation is clearly out of hand.

If Patrick wasn't writing news stories which bring non-subscribers in and in-turn advertising revenue, then I'm sure it wouldn't be long before CBS would pull the plug on the whole site.

I would welcome a more strict moderation stance on forums and video comment threads which enforce some kind of post suspension when comments go off topic towards slagging off the staff, be it Patrick, Brad, Alex or even when Kessler makes his occasional ex-intern appearance. No-one wants to read it and the more grateful members of the community don't want such posters involved in the community. I'd like to see the reaction if they got up at the PAX panel and said such ridiculous things into a mic, though a RL lynching might make an interesting half time segment!

I don't think they're requesting Brad Nicholson back. I think they're just asking for other people like Rich Gallup and Carrie Gouskos. And though some part of the hatred Patrick gets comes from being "the new guy", a larger part of his hatedom comes from how he does things and his personality.

Personally, I don't think he's that bad. He's better than Brad N, that's for sure, and he can sometimes be quite funny. But I can definitely see where the haters are coming from, and some of their complaints have some grounding in reality.

I know it was probably just the translators choice to refer to Swery as 'he'--but in some ways I think it worked almost better--I like to think that Swery refers to himself in the third person.

I played the 360 version and watched both ERs, and I thought I was done with Deadly Premonition, but after watching this, I might very well dive back in to the Directors Cut!

That was great. I know you wished they had asked more questions about stuff from the game but this wasn't that type of thing Zach.

I discovered giantbomb about 4 or 5 years ago but I don't know who the fuck that Brad Nicholson guy even is. I think I saw a few retweets from the staff over the years but nothing aside from that. Was he ever part of the staff?

Brad Nicholson was a freelance writer who wrote up the news reports for Giant Bomb before Patrick. He usually just regurgitated press releases and was all around boring. I didn't hate him, but he didn't really add anything to the site with his articles. Patrick at least provokes conversation.

Except nobody is requesting Brad Nicholson back. Good candidates to replace Patrick with: Carrie Gouskos or Rich Gallup. People that think they understand why Patrick is so hated never seem to be correct. It's not about hating the new guy or anything like that. For me it's the way Patrick presents himself and the way he talks; furthermore, he doesn't even begin to fit in with the actual GB crew. Apart from him not being somewhat funny, his personality sticks out against the others' so much it's unbelievable. Here's to hoping he gets fired soon!

Brad Nicholson did some freelance news writing for GB before Patrick. He didn't write much and his articles were basically generic news stories of stuff that was covered by Kotaku or Joystiq earlier that day. I think he showed up on the Bombcast once and seemed like a cool dude, but he didn't live near SF and didn't seem to have a repertoire with the guys or the community.

I know the kind of in-depth exposes/essays Patrick does regularly aren't everybody's cup of tea, but I think it's something different and interesting from the usual generic news posts we get from other blogs.

And I agree, the Patrick hatred is getting old. Yeah, I like Jeff, Ryan, Vinny, Brad, Drew and Dave, and when Patrick first started showing up everywhere, it was kinda weird, but he's one of the guys now, and we all should be used to him by now. This "UGH PATRICK" bullshit years after he's been at GB is getting real old.
