Could it be?

Edit 1: Yes, I finally got that darn quest. Good luck to everyone else during GDC.

Edit 2: As to the video, I'm still not sold on Dragon Age. I don't know why, it just doesn't click with me.

Gotta say, pretty miffed about this only being free during such a small pre-order window. This game is an instant buy for me, but even if I pre-ordered right now I'd still be getting gigged on day one.

Probably wait for a price cut on this DLC before I buy it. I'll  use the characters already in game in my party and go for this one later on me second playthrough.

So there I was, minding my own business, browsing Giantbomb. Suddenly, I noticed a very wittily titled Dragon Age 2 video had been uploaded while I was watching the Beyond Good and Evil HD quicklook. Being a huge Dragon Age fan, I clicked immediately, a little bewildered at the mention of EA demanding 7 of my dollars. Then I watched the video, the end.

And that's the story of how I cancelled my Dragon Age pre order, because announcing DLC before the game is even out is RIDICULOUSLY GREEDY

It is if you pre-order it. Anyone who pre orders past that signature date BS gets this and some other items instead.

After playing the demo on the PC, I'm really glad I didn't pre-order this game.  I'm just going to wait a little while longer and enjoy me some Witcher 2.

Wow.. launch day dlc huh? I think special editions shouldn´t come with ingame stuff, and this "preorder before day x" thing is really shoddy..

Funny you should say that, because depending on when you had pre-ordered, you were actually going to get this for free.

I didn't pre-order in time, so I will be gladly paying the extra $7.  I don't get the people who continue to rebel against day one DLC for games.  Game releases are often content locked months in advance of their release, and releasing early DLC gives the dev team something to do after the game is complete.

It's a shame you're going to deny yourself the ability to play what will be a fantastic game, based on nothing more than a fundamental lack of understanding for how game development works.

As someone who preordered the Signature Edition--meaning I will get it for free--I really don't like that this isn't just included in the box like Shale for Dragon Age: Origins. I have no problem with day one DLC that is intended to get money out of used sales, but don't do this.

I don't fully trust Bioware and their DLC. 90% of the time, it's pretty lacking. They got on the right track with ME 2 though.

It's a company trying to ensure that they make a profit off their sales.  I supported it in Dragon Age: Origins. I supported it in Mass Effect 2.  And I will support it here. New game purchasers invest more into the product and should receive more content than those who buy used games. I'm sure it also saves them a fair bit of disc space. "
If you are going to punish used buyers/renters and treat them like pirates don't be surprised when the people who buy  alot of both new AND used stop buying any and just pirate everything.

Well good thing they didn't do the "Special Edition Pre-Order Months Beforehand Get Free Stuff And Your Mother Also" edition on Steam, so my game of Dragon Age 2 gets to cost sixty-seven dollars as opposed to sixty dollars.  As much as it burns me in a sense, I'm still a sucker for content that could have an impact on my story.

Since I didn't preorder months in advance, and I don't want to pay 7 bucks for this, I'll just wait a year and buy the Dragon Age 2 Super Turbo Edition with all the DLC.

I had every intention of buying this day one, like I do with every Bioware game.  Not this time.

Yeah, this is pretty much the special edition stuff being made available for people who didn't pre-order early enough to get it. Also with all the DLC stuff going on with games these days, how does this surprise anyone?

They told us about it last October. That was 6 months ago. That was more than enough time for anyone remotely interested in this game to pop down a pre-order. It's not like they would be losing money if they then decided to cancel said pre-order.

Yeah but we all know that there's a time slot between when the game has been finished, is sent off to Sony and Microsoft for standards testing and is then being pressed onto disc by several different publishers per region of the world.
In this time the Developer can either choose to give their many hundreds of employees a financially unviable 3 month break to sit around the office twiddling their thumbs, OR they can get them working on some DLC/their next project.
And since DLC is expected of them from their customer, especially with DA 2 being the type of game it is, plus DLC is a good source of healthy extra income, of course they start working on DLC, even if it'll be ready for a day 1 release window.
Try not to judge the industries developer negatively, this happens too often throughout the industry for it to be dodgey dealings, it's done because they find it more useful to do it this way.

Also, if you read this site then you likely read that article ages ago stating that a special pre-order edition of the game offered free DLC. Had you been a bit smarter you'd be paying the same amount for the same game, but with about 5-9 hours of extra content, I don't call them greedy for this, in fact I'd call this more than generous.

And one final point, at which point are EA and Bioware banging on your front door and forcing you to buy said DLC?
Not even once. Your reaction is a tad silly to be quite frank.

The first game had a DLC seller with a cronic quest mark on him in your camp. That was the greatest insult of my gaming like and because of it I'm not even going to consider buying DA2.

It's weird that people say the demo was terrible, when the game plays identically to DA:O, except with faster, flashier animations.  This DLC stuff is disappointing though.

I don't know if I'm annoyed. I was at first. DLC before the game is even out? It's not an add-on. It's a "left-out."

But honestly I don't think they wouldn't stoop to this level unless they needed to. Not just EA, but other companies have been doing this lately, I think. The PC version will be pirated like crazy (like the first one was) and plenty of people will buy the game used. EA/Bioware gets nothing for either of those, and that'll make up a good chunk of the players.

If this is what it takes to keep these companies profitable and producing games, then I'll put up with it. I may not like it, but I'll put up with it.

@bhhawks78: I'm sure your argument will hold true, but that doesn't make the actions of the individual any more or less right.

At the end of the day, companies deserve the profit for their games. I'll never object to counter-piracy or counter-used measures--it's logical, and it's fair.

As far as I'm concerned, digital distribution is the best way out of this scenario. It's cheaper to produce, cheaper to advertise, appeals to spontaneous purchase, and cannot be sold/bought used. It's the only way out of this situation.

Unless you have some insider knowledge as to Bioware's production cycle for DA2, you don't have any idea what you're talking about.

Typically, the "cup is half-full" theory is that once a game goes gold and there is a lock on the game code that will be put into production, developers will continue in their efforts to produce DLC which will of course not require the same long production cycle as the content and full game that is shipping on the disc. That is why you see instances like this.

The "cup is half-empty" theory is of course what you're instigating, that content is specifically cut from product specification during the project planning stages to specifically be paid DLC. I'm of course not a fan of this either, as it really is total bullshit for them to do that, but I highly doubt you have the insider knowledge or even a remote idea of what their production schedule is, so your allegations are completely baseless and empty.

I could also tell you about how on-disc DLC may not always be inherently evil, but that is a whole different discussion involving project delays.

If you hate DLC being released this way, than send a message with your wallets and don't buy it. EA will continue to employ these tactics to get every last dollar out of consumers regardless of whether or not it's "dirty".

a companies main objective is to make money(especially after they sold there soul to EA)  theres no way this shit wasnt just cut out to sell it no fucking way its like everyone who thought reviewers wernt payed off then look where that happened shit i wouldnt be writing this if it wasnt for lamespots dumbassness (also giantbomb is 101% better ^_^!)

also quit standing up for this shit because your the reason they get away with it....I swear its like those episodes of cops where the redneck wife gets the shit kicked out of her by her husband every day but shes like i dont wanna press charges because i still love him

It's not gonna cost me anything, because I preordered the game before January 11th.
