Military spending is estimated at as much as a quarter of GNP, with up to 20% of men ages 17-54 in the regular armed forces. North Korean forces have a substantial numerical advantage over the South (around 2 to 1) in several key categories of offensive weapons--tanks, long-range artillery, and armored personnel carriers. The North has one of the world's largest special operations forces, designed for insertion behind the lines in wartime."

North Korea is also politically isolated while multiple world powers and all the local powers of the East Asia region are invested in it South Korea operating as it is.  If this was a one on one fight, sure.  But it definitly isn't.

Are you kidding me? North Korea, the most isolated country in the world with an army barely equipped well enough to throw rocks across the 38th parallel is actually powerful enough to pull a ww2 Japan and take over most of Asia while at the same time attack the US.

And where's China in all this? What they just let NK annex half of Asia and destabilize the whole region? Do you honestly think China would let NK start a war with it's BIGGEST FUCKING TRADE PARTNER!?!?!

WTF is this bullshit! God can a developer actually make a realistic military story that doesn't sound like it was written by Tom Clancy high on shrooms?

They cant feed their own people, they have no allies, their industrial capacity is expedentally less then south Korea, their military technology is that  of the 1950's-1960's, and their missles are unreliable.

In comparison, Japan had sucessfully industrialised before WW1, which allowed them to build a navy, supply a large army, plus they had colonies before WW2. Oh, and the Japanese could feed their own people and they controled Korea. This aint happening folks.

@CylonAndrew:  Not only that, but modern Japan has a heavy US military presence on Okinawa.

@ Nasar7 Shit, at least the Russians are militarily capable of the invasion.

Not to say this game won't be awesome, but it's so far-fetched.

I'm just going to let Rule of Cool overrule any sense of realism for the poor excuse of a plot. If the game's fun enough I couldn't care less if it was about the US being invaded by giant space fleas from nowhere.

If you say so. But China is not going to allow the invasion of a country that is 700 billion dollars in debt to it, especially given the fact that it's rise to first world power is built on the backs of American consumers.

Way to wring the recent tragedy of Cheonan into some asinine half-baked narrative of a FPS shooter. That hits a new low on this side of callous marketing directive a la Kuma/War on THQ's part.

BTW, The unified Korea will be a democratic country, if it ever comes to pass.

Actually you're not that far off. The game is written by John Milius, who co-wrote Apocalypse Now, and written and directed Red Dawn.

KAOS Studios comes up with good, original ideas for games, but their execution so far has been subpar.  I really wanted to like Frontlines, but it ran so horribly on my computer - it's by far the worst implementation of Unreal Engine 3 I've seen on my computer.  I'm looking forward to seeing more on Homefront.

Good luck to you, KAOS.

Kinda hope the game is good. I like the idea used here, no matter how far-fetched it may be. Off hand I can't think of any war fps that is solely based on American soil, and using current events to gain an emotional response seems to have worked (from looking at some of the posts here).

Firstly, this is just a game... So just count to 10 and calm down.
Secondly, a number of unexplained things could of happened.
Russia and China could have looked the other way and offer secret funding to North Korea; Russia and China could have even given technology and kit to the North Koreans.
Thirdly, you have to think that it's just a game, look at Fallout 3 - or even the entire Fallout series - we have no evidence that radiation can do stuff like turning somebody into a 20 foot giant and I didn't hear all this crap about Fallout 3!

Everything I've read about NK is that they are even worse off than the Iraqis were and that country fell in about 2 weeks.  NK has nothing but cold war era weapons and can't even feed themselves, let alone launch a ground war against SK, one of the most advanced nations on Earth.  Plus the US has a large force there.

Yeah..... no I lived in South Korea, they would never give in without one hell of a fight, plus there's also the fact that South Korea has a far better trained and equipped military than the North could ever have. For god-sakes North Korea's main tank is one that was used in WWII, plus US Forces in South Korea obviously have Patriot missiles too, so the threat of a nuclear attack is very low. And the Japanese surrendering to the Koreans? HELL NO! Man I have never met so much hatred between two nationalities in my life, seriously the Japanese and Koreans hate each other, and if you know their past you will understand why.... Plus the Japanese have been threatening to do something about North Korea for a long time....

Clearly North Korea can take out the South with weapons from the 1950s.
Cool trailer but, man is it ever hard to believe that it even has a small chance of happening.

It's going to take a lot of disbelief suspension to swallow this premise.

@Vager: everyone bought into the ridicuous premise of COD 6, but yeah this is pretty impausible. People hate america but invading an entire country and killing citizens etc?

I think this might be a fun game though, if you treat it like a red alert style of storyline but still. No way am I buying into this kind of premise lol.

They will have to be VERY good at telling a story.
