What's with calling these "We Plays"? Moving away from the old "Unfinished EX"?

According to Jeff, the name was confusing people so they changed it.

Walking was too much interaction for this type of game so now you don't even do that.

@hassun: There's too many games we hear about regularly to keep track of, making these games that stay on the DL like this, Below, Ryme, and Cuphead extra impossible to keep in mind.

I'm really torn on videos like this. I like the "EX" or "We Play" style with developers, but for something story-heavy like Tacoma, I want to see as little as possible before going in after waiting this long. Which sucks, because I really want to hear what Steve and Karla have to say about the game and making it! Hope I remember to come back after playing it.

So Quicklook EX is now "We Play with"? And is this a regular thing now?

Anyway its good to see more developer interaction on a regular basis. I guess my only complaint is that GB guys have to be in good form around developers to not criticise their product in front of them, but I understand.

Its literally Gone Home in space, with better graphics and an actual budget this time. What were you expecting exactly?

I guess it's cool to have an early look at this, but for such a storydriven game it feels quite difficult to get a clear sense of what this game is going to be like . I guess the idea of going back and forth in time while you focus on different characters in a room is somewhat novel, but ultimately this game falls or stands based on it's story.

But this is a great chance to offer them useful feedback, since Yakuza 0 and GTA do both darts and pool better than Tacoma at this point! Tacoma let's you grab the cue from the wall and crouch along the pooltable, which is a good start to dethrone those minigame juggernauts, but the actual 'pool' and 'dart' games are just not on the same level as those games. It needs more nuance than 'click to hit / throw. You need to be able to decide how powerful the hit will be! :)

I also have my qualms with the Jeff Bakalar-ish cat violence. Clearly Jeff influenced these souls to do some nefarious shit.

Like Gone Home, it's about moving through and puzzling together a story by exploring the environment and items in it. Only here it's also about monitoring the characters kind of actually in it, and sort of exploring through time by scrubbing through these AR recordings.

And yes, at least one bona fide puzzle is confirmed.

I think a little bit of why they added on that year and retooled the game was to get away a little bit from it just being 'Gone in Home in space' but yeah it's still a story-driven, exploration/adventure game.

I like point & click games and i like Telltale games, but Gone Home just didn't do it for me. I guess you could argue that P&C games are not as streamlined as these kind of games, but i just need that smidge of gameplay apparently. Even if it leads to 'using all items on all possibilities' to progress.

I may be mistaken since I did not watch the whole thing. But I wish they used actual characters instead of ghost forms. Find it hard to really care about any characters that appear in this way. Some other games have done the same thing in the past.

Perhaps the writing will be strong enough to work.

Speaking of narrative mystery things, Stories Untold is pretty cool. Perhaps too obviously evoking Stranger Things, but it's still pretty cool. You should play it with headphones on. Probably shouldn't play it at all if you're epileptic. Chapter 2 gets real strobey.

Got stuck in chapter 2 too. I'm missing something, don't know what. Been waiting for Youtube to catch up.

For the people wondering why they have so many of these lately. It's most likely because GDC is happening in San Francisco right now

So this looks super rad, same thing with Gone Home where it feels like the pacing of a Horror Game without actually being one, but like, Wasn't it originally a horror game? With monsters and all that? Or am I getting my 'Solo person in space' indie games mixed up, because I definitely remember a trailer for a game that looks a lot like this, but was more actually a horror game.

The whole mechanic of eavesdropping on peoples' conversations, reversing time, and then going to eavesdrop on someone else instead... the whole thing gives me a real Last Express vibe. Which is a very good thing, actually.

I'm no developer, but I'd bet you anything this is purely a budget concern.

@redhorn: This, 95% of the time it seems like it keeps the guys from being honest and unbiased about what they're playing, which one of the main reasons why I'm a subscriber to this site. Like with the Dangerous Golf unfinished EX , you could tell the game was garbage and they could too but they had to play nice because the devs were there.

yeah sure being honest about the game they're playing is important. but i'd rather have positivity even if it's forced rather than excessive cynicism, bitterness, and sarcasm that seems all the rage nowadays.

whatever conflict of interests you think may be there, i think it's overridden by the ability to talk to the developers in depth about their game and get a little inside baseball with it.

I love how Jeff always tries to do a bit, and Steve Gaynor always rolls with it. They did it at E3 that one year and totally freaked out the other guests, but I have to give Steve credit for rolling with the improv bit.

I bet Steve likes to wear a nice suit and just hang around doing pushups.

Oh hey its Firewatch but in space. It has a very destinctive feel that I enjoy and it reminds me of 2001:ASO at times.

Nice to see gameplay related footage about it. The stuff I've seen basically said nothing about the game itself.

@yellownumber5: I would not criticise something that is in development and not released. Stuff like this is a privilege, nagging about it would do more harm than good.

If its officially released however its of course subject to critique.

@ripelivejam: To add to the stuff you wrote, cynicism, bitterness and sarcasm are often self destructive in nature or are seen as such. Nobody should be subject for such things in the long run, that would just drag down the audience.

Keep it happy and truthful.

"Quicklook" carries the meaning of the GB crew looking at a released game

"Unfinished" carries the meaning of the GB crew looking at a unfishined game

by this logic "Quicklook EX" should be GB crew + devs looking at their released game. But instead, often those devs want to show off their game before it's released. So this would mean that GB should technically start a Unfinished EX series as well.

Or they can just sidestep all the confusion by coming up with a new name, like 'We play.. with"
