We Play Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap with Lizardcube

Hate to be that guy but, really wish this was also coming out for PC :/

I loved this game on the Master System, a very early metroid-vania-rpg style game. Once I heard it was being remade I couldn't wait and have been following the Lizardcube's updates. If you think this is cool check them out on facebook or Twitter and watch their dev videos.

This is coming out on just about everything, they talk about ps4 trophies and the Xbox One password right in the video, right? So you don't have to buy a Switch - if that's what you are worried about? (I hated the Wii as a system (controls are worst ever!), I got burned on my Wii U support, I am not buying a Switch until its out at least 3 years and doing well)

Sold on the graphics alone.

According to dev comments on their Facebook page, it is coming to PC. Don't think it's day and date with console, tho.

I have no affection for Wonder Boy, but I want to play this game. Dang, it looks slick!

I wonder if the art guy previously worked on Cut the Rope, the animation has a bounciness, and the eyes have a certain Om-Nom-ness to them

There's something about the new art style that I really, really like in comparison to some other sidescrollers out there. Can't really put my finger on it other than that it's good and does a fantastic job translating a Master System games world and characters.

Never heard of this game, but this looks so good. Seems like a game that was way ahead of its time, and the remastered art style is gorgeous.

Omar's passion is really infectious here, stuff like the 'Shopping Please' sign still being visible in the shop's background is really cool. I know nothing of the original game but I'm definitely gonna see if I can afford this when it comes out.

This looks real dang pretty. The transition between retro and the new art style is awesome to see. Something you don't see often.

I just wish every remake from here on out would include a button to switch between the old and new style. That's definitly my favorite thing about remakes.

Looks great, didn't know anything about this before this video. Changing styles (from old to new) looked awesome. Might have to get this game...

Thinking about it, the Dragon's Trap was one of the first games I truly loved. I played the hell out of it on my Master System and it introduced me to so many core mechanics. I can't wait to play this again and I'm really glad others get to experience it. I just hope it holds up.

I've never heard of the original game(s), but its really nice to see how much care and love went into making this.

It is coming to PC! Not sure why they didn't mention it here. It's on their Devblog/Twitter.

The game will launch in Spring 2017 on the Nintendo Switch, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The PC version should come shortly after (in the best case scenario we may be able to release it on the same date, but it may need to be delayed because PC compatibility is really tough to get right).

The art is really impressive. I have no affinity with this particular game but you can tell that they made the new art with a lot of passion for the original and what it must've felt like at the time.

Since the two videos are obviously connected, I can't help but wish they had done a similar thing for the Windjammers rerelease. High res sprites or more cartoony graphics in 16:9 would be incredible for that game.

This wasn't on my radar at all, but it looks fantastic. Definitely picking it up for the Switch.

I have zero nostalgia for Wonder Boy, but it sure looks like Lizardcube puts a lot of care into their remakes/emulations. Perhaps some day they'll do something I'm more interested in, but at the moment, I couldn't quite say what that would be.

I am surprised by how good this looks. I would love to see a lot more old classic 8 and 16 bit games given this treatment. A great way of preserving old games having the original graphics and sound a button press away.

I was first introduced to Wonder Boy when my mother bought me Ys: The Vanished Omens and Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap was in the box instead. It certainly wasn't the game I was expecting but I liked enough that I didn't want my mom to return it. I would have to wait another year to actually get Ys.

I want 10 copies of this game

but im really glad to say i was completely won over by the teams dedication to preserving the original while also updating it with new art and music , really looking forward to this now

Dr. Katz I especially love. I like stand up comedy a lot and I think that show is great as a showcase for it plus I like all the characters themselves. Really good one.

This looks amazing. One of my favorite games as a kid.

This isn't personally my cup of tea, but I am glad games like this exist and wish there were more of them.

Master System II was huge in NZ, heavily marketed with Alex the Kid. Remember playing this on a weekend swap with a school friend and loving it!

A lot's been said about the art style already and I'd agree, but I must add that it sounds like they absolutely nailed the music. It was hard to hear most of it, but the stuff that came through sounded incredibly well done.

Yup, looks very good. Really enjoy the time and effort put into the old vs. the new filter. That really tends to sell the whole game in a weird way.
