Gosh, the art in this is gorgeous.

That transition effect is REALLY smooth and cool.

Also I'm really loving the hand-drawn looking art. It's modern 2D art done right.

Really cool to see my namesake return! A big fan of Wonder Boy in Monster Land and also World (mostly played World) so this could be a fun time.

Seems like it. There have been a couple of "We play X with Y" uploaded recently, which would normally just have been put under the Quick Look EX brand.

Honestly the name change makes sense to me. The "EX" never really told you much about what made it different from a regular Quick Look. With this new name it's a lot more explicit and easy to understand upfront what the video is about.

Yeah, it was also weird to call it Quick Look EX when some are also Unfinished. I guess this makes it clearer that they play the game with developers/publishers and works for finished/unfinished games. They really need to work on the shows pages.

This is precisely the art style I wish Nintendo would use for modern 2D Mario instead of NSMB style. At least they did it for Wario Land: Shake It which nobody played it seems because there hasn't been a new Wario Land.

A smooth switch between retro and updated is always a big plus for me. The new style is like an old-school cartoon. I will definitely keep an eye on this.

I really do wonder the % of people who remember these games and would buy them who still own consoles vs owning a PC. I guess the marketing numbers make sense as this keeps happening. But sad to miss out unless I buy a switch.

Looks awesome. I'm glad that it's coming out on PC eventually, and that they are taking the time making that version work well.

I had a Master System, and was aware of Wonder Boy, but I never actually played it. This looks charming.

Nice! Looks like the devs poured a lot of heart and soul into this project. Had the original on my first console, the Master System 2. Games like this made owning a MS2 in Australia feel worthwhile.

This looks gorgeous, so much personality. Never played Wonderboy/Adventure Island, pretty well sold on it.

Usually get stuff like this on PC but this looks like a mighty fine Switch game...

I spent many hours playing Wonder Boy on both C64 and Master System 2. New art style looks nice and all, but would probably just as well go play the originals to get that fix.

Since Brazil is mentioned in this video, WB: The Dragon's Trap was actually released in Brazil by Tec Toy as Turma da Mônica em o Resgate ("Monica's Gang in the Rescue in a literal translation"), where characters' sprites were changed to Monica's Gang (a VERY popular comic here) characters.

Tec Toy is famous for doing that in a lot of Master System games, using other Brazilian IPs such as "TV Colosso" and "Sítio do Pica-pau Amarelo".

And yes, they still sell Master Systems with games in memory here.

This is so beautiful, my heart is melting! Never could appreciate the game as a kid, it was too challenging for my poor, undeveloped gamer self, but I kept beating my head against it anyway. As of late I've started to understand how much of it was really outstanding at the time, and I guess that's what made me keep trying back then. Super happy it's getting a second chance, after all this time!

Never played the original but this art is selling me on the game pretty hard. Could be a good cheap eshop game for the switch.

I've always been a fan of shifty-ass lines when characters stand still. Makes everything seem alive.

This kinda gives me a Shantae vibe. Never played the original but the island theme looks like you're running around Scuttle Town. Looks neat.

Still waiting for someone to give Mighty Bomb Jack this treatment.

I'm really impressed with the creative liberty they took in adapting some of these environments. It goes a long way towards making them more unique and giving the world a vibe of its own. This feels like a passion project for them.

I guess it makes sense to go to the original for the greatest comparison, but Dragon's Curse was always the better version of this game to me. It plays, looks and sounds so much better than the SMS original.

Man this looks awesome, wish i knew about this game when i was a kid i'd have loved it.
Hopefully this comes to PC, considering that part of this project is about preserving the game, it's a shame it's not (yet) coming to the platform which key to almost all preservation.
I'm hopefull this and Windjammers are timed exclusives.

I loved this game 1st time around (I think I was 10 when I 1st played at a friends house, never came close to finishing it) this redux looks fantastic.

The filename literally has "qlex" in it. You're not fooling anyone ;)

It does feel better not have this be called quick look though so I guess I can't complain.

Man, I really hope more remastered games start to embrace the old look / new look mechanic that something like this or the Master Chief Collection has. Granted it doesn't make a whole lot of sense right now most of the time when something like the Deadpool game makes its way to newer consoles, but it was super cool to play those older Halo games and compare the looks, and it seems even cooler for this with what a huge leap it is.

Man, I really love the art in this thing. That stern-ass look on the mouse transformation is really funny. I might pick this up, despite having zero affinity for the Wonder Boy series.

Press materials say this is coming to PC, but he said at the end that it's releasing on Switch/PS4/XBone in the spring. Did the PC version get delayed?

Also both this and the Nintendo video would fall under the Unfinished category and I am not sure if there is such a thing as Unfinished EX... quicklooks are for released games (but there are some quick looks EXs for not released games from the time before they implemented the Unfinished name, because of how things change and early acces became a thing).

If there's one thing I'd have to dock a point for in this otherwise gorgeous game, it's that unlike the original the modern graphics version of the main character sprite is simply mirrored when facing the opposite direction. The original had a unique sprite for facing both directions. I'm a stickler when it comes to those minute details. :P

I'm a sucker for a good art style. Can't wait till this comes out.
