Dawn Of War II: Retribution Trading GFWL Support For Steamworks
This is a huge blow for Microsoft. If one person starts doing this others might follow. Interesting, very intersting.
Hmm. Probably won't get this since it won't have XBL achievements. That's the only reason I grabbed the other two on the cheap. $12 & $8

That's just stupid. You should get the games because they are awesome. IMO Achievements add about a maximum of 0.1% value to a game unless you have OCD.
" nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i don't want Steam achievments. Also, why? GFWL>Steamworks. Besides MW2, who plays multiplayer steamworks games? "what, what the fu..?
ROFL if you're whining about achievements on here, you're not a true PC gamer or a gamer in any sense of the word.
Grow up.
But GFWL achievements are better than Steam ones.
Lets not forget that its easier for them to release DLC's on Steam. They can milk it like there is no tomorrow.
This is the best decision ever! Relic are just awesome. We wanted vehicles wrecks, they delivered. We wanted them to get rid of that abomination GfWL, they did. I have the feeling that Retribution will be the best 40k game ever made!
Relic are one of the few studios that listen to their community!
For the blood handed GOD!

said:Yes, but to play the game you have to log into GfWL also and they are providing the match-makingg system which sucked btw. Not to mention that patches had to go through certification every time and we had to wait like 2 more weeks to get the patch. With Steamworks we won't have that problem." But wait, I'm confused. I can already buy the 2 first on Steam... Is that *with* GFWL support then? "
Not to mention that Retribution will be a completely stand alone expansion which means that you can play with all races in multiplayer, you don't have to have the previous games. This is great for new gamers who haven't played it yet.
I will miss the achievements since I use to like playing the previous 2 and getting some gamerscore. If achievements suck as some here believe, then why do sites like this one use them as well?
I see myself logging in to GFW less and less these days... This will probably continue to be the trend. Steam is just becoming the default PC gaming hub.
" I'm not a PC gamer so I didn't know GFWL had such a bad rap. My Question is: Which is closer to the grave, GFWL or GameRoom? "GameRoom. Even if GFWL goes, Microsoft will release something else to replace it. They have to have some sort of presence on the gaming PC.
" @rargy said:GFWL is ok at best for DoW2(the custom game list was always shit though) but it's terrible with other games. It makes Red Faction just useless online for me. No server browser, and the matchmaking just dumped me in dead or overseas servers." While i like Steam, i've never had a problem with GFWL. "Agreed. "
Man, this makes me happy. I imagine it's too much to ask that they strip GFWL out of the other 2 games while they're at it, eh?
" BOO!! Please stop using Steamworks. Don't want to be locked in. Steam = 1984 "Who let Randy Pitchford in here?
Also you're an idiot.
Without a doubt one of the best bits of news I've heard for this series. After dealing with the amazingly smelly pile of crap that is GFWL, working only with Steam will be a breath of fresh air. Only downside to this is that with no GFWL you get no MS achievement points, but I think I can live with that.
I will miss gfwl if only because i love getting more achievements and tend to care more about them for live than my steam achievements, and gfwl has yet to give me any problems (when i first tried it i kept getting signed out of it at first, only to figure out that was because i kept trying to sign on to xboxlive to listen to last.fm while i played....yeah im stupid i know haha). But other than that im super pumped, i didnt like dow2 when i played the demo, but after watching the quicklook picked it up on a steam sale and i LOVE it, stupendous game i can't wait for more DOW2 goodness!
sidenote- YAY me my first official post on giantbomb!
" BOO!!And Games for Windows LIVE doesn't? If you refuse to be "locked in", you should stay away from both of these services.
Please stop using Steamworks.
Don't want to be locked in. Steam = 1984 "
Steam isn't that good of a service and I much more prefer GFWL. I get Live Achievements and the game isn't locked only to Steam. I know there is a lot of Steam-fanboys out there, but seriously. There must be better alternatives.
Don't give Steam monopoly when it comes to PC games and digital distribution.
