This seems like they took the whole GBA connectivity thing they had with the Gamecube and took it to the extreme.
Wii U
Platform »
The Nintendo Wii U, the follow-up to the monstrously popular Nintendo Wii console, launched in North America on November 18th 2012.
E3 2011: Wii U Reveal Trailer
One positive thing to take away from all this: Wii U will be THE go to platform for all your Silent Scope needs.
@zombie_bigdaddy: The point I'm making is if Nintendo did release a console today that was graphically superior to the other consoles, it won't be that long until Sony & Microsoft release their next generation of consoles, so it's a good move on Nintendo's part.I agree, I just think its a little short-sighted. I doubt they would get away with releasing an upgraded, more powerful wii u in time to compete with ps4/xbox 3. But, if they dont, this may end up just like the wii with no 3rd party support withing 2 or 3 years.
That controller looks nuts, but all together it looks awesome. I'm hoping the controller doesn't cost too much either. I never use my Wii and I doubt I'd ever use a WiiU very often but if Nintendo bring out some awesome games for it (they totally will) then I might snap and buy one.
Hmmm, sorry I was hopping for more. Not hardware wise, or even software announce wise, but I was hopping Nintendo would not rely on a novelty again. The only think in the launch trailer they showed that seemed like a realistic product was Zelda.
The concept is good, none of us will know if the hardware is good for a while, but the general direction seems to me the same as the Wii... all neet ideas, no substance... Unlike the DS, a new idea with real substance...
@unholyone123: I totally agree with you. I was just amused by the similarities between the commercials (even - arguably - the mood of the music!). I'm not implying that Nintendo copied anything. I'm prepared to concede that it was an entertaining and pretty rad coincidence, rather than saying "look nintendo is so lame lolol". I guess I should've made that more explicit!
PREDICTION!: There will be an angry birds game for Wii U where you pull back the slingshot on the controller and it flings onto your tv screen... and it will be the biggest selling game ever.
Completely uninterested. Its almost like nintendo is going out of there way to create shit that I will hate. At least they managed to come up with a name worse than Vita though.
Really the Wii U? Not only is that a worse name then the "Feel" or "Cafe" but it really only looks like a improved Ipad that connects to a Wii. Sure some interesting ideas but I feel it will be poorly implemented just like the original Wii. It is really too bad seeing as I thought nintendo could have been the most impressive in E3. Just more gimmicks (Seeing as they have gone head first with 3D now it's an impressive ipad?)
So it's like an Xbox 360, but it's also like a Wii, and it's also like a Nintendo DS. All at the same time.
Done. Sold. You've told me everything I need to know.
Yay for Nintendo solving problems with peripherals that nobody had in the first place. Aside from Wii Fit games themselves, where has the wiimote revolutionised the game industry? Heck, most of the top 20 games to come out in the past 12 months (Wiiware and VC content excluded, even) hardly use the Wiimote at all. I couldn't possibly care less about a portable screen controller.
