Im not going lie in my years of playing i played more than 400 hours i would say.
Around the 6 min mark this is mentioned, and as the talker says, around 6 million years ago is when the first human ancestors would have walked upright. I find this number just scary!

Re: The total play time of every WoW player is 5.93 million years
god fucking dammit.... we would have a cure for cancer and be living in space right now if it wasn't for wow
That seems like a low number for that game, i would of thought much much higher. Maybe 50 hours, i play it a couple times a year.
" god fucking dammit.... we would have a cure for cancer and be living in space right now if it wasn't for wow "You assume that those people would spend their time on productive things if they didn't have WoW.
I know you may be half-joking, but I'm just annoyed with always hearing this.
" god fucking dammit.... we would have a cure for cancer and be living in space right now if it wasn't for wow "To be honest (even as somebody who plays a lot of WoW) I think we'd be less advanced in those areas if WoW players were contributing to them instead of playing WoW. Those things require teamwork and dedication to properly research, only a handful of WoW players have that, and most of those people have regular, society contributing, day jobs.
Oh.dear.god....
That is, well, overwhelming actually. Of course, it's not really so huge as it seems, considering the number of people who play wow, and after all the game has only been out around 5! I do think that if people didn't have so much to help the stave away boredom intelligence and creativity levels may increase though.
I played so much WoW, i don't even remember my time played, but it was up there, I still have fond memories of Classic WoW raids (BWL, AQ40) and i plan on getting a figure print made of my mage, just because
When I quit I had over a year of /played, which is 8760 odd hours over 5 years... but i'm over it now, I can look at an MMO without getting the shakes.
Should probably add I was bored of the game long before that, but I stuck around due to playing with friends and that's why alot of them are still playing.
I probably have around 200 days played overall over the course of 4 years, and to be fair its alot. BUT if I didn't play wow I would prolly just watch television or play some other game instead so /care?
" @HitmanAgent47 said:"Where's the pun? "Wow, that's alot of time. (pun intended)
"
The word WoW.
6M * (hours in a year; 8760) = 52.56 billion man-hours. Assuming those hours were spent working, that would be ~400 billion dollars even at minimum wage 0_o. Over a trillion dollars if we're looking at average wage. Not saying they should have spent their time working, most of this was probably in free time, but still.
i've heard about that 10000 hour theory before.
i seriously just got really depressed.
she said that the average gamer spends 10000 hours of video games by age 21.
by 21, i could've been playing on the lakers
i could've had a number one single
i could've won an oscar
jesus.... i mean i know that i would've have spent every minute that i would've been playing videogames doing something productive, but still.
jesus
This is extremely sad. I on the other hand, have contributed 0 hours. Fuck WoW. Never saw the big deal. And personally, I don't ever want to play this game because of all the addiction stuff I hear about it.
Just think about all that could be done to improve the world if all those hours were invested into doing something productive!
I haven't played in over a year, but I had over 400 hours in it. That is over the span of two and a half years.
" Doing the math, that's over 4000 hours per subscriber. I don't know if I believe that number... then again I wouldn't be shocked if that number is accurate. "well there have been a lot of people that stopped playing around the world
i wonder how many copies of wow has actually been sold especially since at the moment it has like 11 million subscribers and its been out for 6 years leaving time for many players to play then get tired of it
They only count active subscriptions, so only people that are paying for the game are being counted in Blizzards numbers, I', guessing in total, the number of accounts is a lot more than 11million.
I my self have about 40 days of playtime in wow, starting from back in Feb of 2009. Love the game.
i have around 500 days played in 1 char , got 3 more chars that atm i dont know how much played they got -.-
