Im not going lie in my years of playing i played more than 400 hours i would say.
Around the 6 min mark this is mentioned, and as the talker says, around 6 million years ago is when the first human ancestors would have walked upright. I find this number just scary!

i have attributed about an hour or 2 to that wasnt for me

god fucking dammit.... we would have a cure for cancer and be living in space right now if it wasn't for wow

I don't really enjoy gameplay i don't know why but i think it's social side me and about 3 of my friends in real life play in guild and do quests all time for fun.

I got about 5 hours in.... Just long enough for the first human to learn how to pick his nose.
#6 Posted by DeathByWaffle (681 posts) -

I spent over 600 hours with WoW.
Thankfully, I stopped a while ago.

#7 Posted by Jadeskye (4392 posts) -

a hair under 3000 hours. huge waste of time...

#8 Posted by indians34521 (51 posts) -

That seems like a low number for that game, i would of thought much much higher. Maybe 50 hours, i play it a couple times a year.
#9 Posted by Symphony (1934 posts) -

And if you stretched out all of the monsters killed in WoW since it started end-to-end, they would reach the sun and back 1000 times!

this is sad

You assume that those people would spend their time on productive things if they didn't have WoW.
I know you may be half-joking, but I'm just annoyed with always hearing this.

To be honest (even as somebody who plays a lot of WoW) I think we'd be less advanced in those areas if WoW players were contributing to them instead of playing WoW. Those things require teamwork and dedication to properly research, only a handful of WoW players have that, and most of those people have regular, society contributing, day jobs.

55 days played over 2 years for me lol.

#14 Posted by kishan6 (1986 posts) -

my friend has 3,800 hours on that game
my other friends has like 10000
i have like 4 lol

#15 Posted by Arbie (1480 posts) -

That is, well, overwhelming actually. Of course, it's not really so huge as it seems, considering the number of people who play wow, and after all the game has only been out around 5! I do think that if people didn't have so much to help the stave away boredom intelligence and creativity levels may increase though.

I played so much WoW, i don't even remember my time played, but it was up there, I still have fond memories of Classic WoW raids (BWL, AQ40) and i plan on getting a figure print made of my mage, just because

#17 Posted by apertura (198 posts) -

I have around 8000 hours played in WoW - about 330 days. It's my favorite game of all time. The lore, mechanics and atmosphere of World of Warcraft is just amazing.
Unfortunately, a lot of people will disagree.

#18 Posted by OllyOxenFree (5005 posts) -

I added in 20 minutes lol.  Like the other duder above me said, game is not for me.

#19 Edited by Vorbis (2763 posts) -

When I quit I had over a year of /played, which is 8760 odd hours over 5 years... but i'm over it now, I can look at an MMO without getting the shakes.
Should probably add I was bored of the game long before that, but I stuck around due to playing with friends and that's why alot of them are still playing.

#20 Posted by HitmanAgent47 (8553 posts) -

Wow, that's alot of time. (pun intended)

I probably have around 200 days played overall over the course of 4 years, and to be fair its alot. BUT if I didn't play wow I would prolly just watch television or play some other game instead so /care?

The word WoW.

6M * (hours in a year; 8760) = 52.56 billion man-hours. Assuming those hours were spent working, that would be ~400 billion dollars even at minimum wage 0_o. Over a trillion dollars if we're looking at average wage. Not saying they should have spent their time working, most of this was probably in free time, but still.

#25 Posted by rjayb89 (7806 posts) -

I know I've played over 1000 hours according to my xfire account, but I wasn't always logged into that while I was playing.

#26 Posted by FirePrince (1772 posts) -

Oh god.Dear god.

#27 Posted by BigChief (513 posts) -

...Sweet fucking christ! That...boggles the mind!

#28 Posted by CaptainTightPants (2829 posts) -

Woah... thats.... just....

#29 Posted by JDDrewes (298 posts) -

i've heard about that 10000 hour theory before.
i seriously just got really depressed.
she said that the average gamer spends 10000 hours of video games by age 21.
by 21, i could've been playing on the lakers
i could've had a number one single
i could've won an oscar
jesus.... i mean i know that i would've have spent every minute that i would've been playing videogames doing something productive, but still.

This is extremely sad. I on the other hand, have contributed 0 hours. Fuck WoW. Never saw the big deal. And personally, I don't ever want to play this game because of all the addiction stuff I hear about it.
#31 Posted by Link06 (20 posts) -
@JoeRiccadonna: Pussy
I've spent 84 hours on that thing with my friend. The game got extremely boring. Bring back the Warcraft RTS; Warcraft 4!
#32 Posted by Demyx (3240 posts) -

i have about 72 hours in WoW. I'm quite surprised, I didn't think it was that much.

#33 Posted by Nasos100 (762 posts) -

That's cause the game reeks of awesomeness!

#34 Posted by RobotHamster (4235 posts) -

I've contributed about 5 minutes to that.

#35 Posted by Tordah (2546 posts) -

That's insane. I'm glad I haven't contributed to that statistic.

#36 Posted by gakon (2008 posts) -

I was hoping to defend this statistic and show the anti-WoW folk that it isn't a big deal, but the math seems to show an average of 4,517 hours per player on average, or 188 days /played.  Granted, that's over five years, and doesn't account for the gap in playtime between casual players (the majority of the base) and hardcore raider-types (less than 5% according to Blizzard), or the number of people who are former players.
Maybe I should have watched the TED talk you linked to see how this person got their numbers.  Oh well.  38 days right here one one character, and probably a few more weeks among the rest of them.  No shame.

#37 Posted by SJSchmidt93 (4994 posts) -

I've played about 2400 hours.

#38 Posted by LiquidPrince (16450 posts) -

I have contributed nothing to that count.

#39 Posted by TheGreatGuero (8882 posts) -

Just think about all that could be done to improve the world if all those hours were invested into doing something productive!

#40 Posted by CaptainCody (1546 posts) -

I've played a little more than 200.
#41 Posted by Brendan (8529 posts) -

It's a good thing so amny people out there like this game, because if the world consisted of 8 billion Brendans, this game wouldn't have lasted a month ;P
8 billion Brendans... 8/
#42 Edited by Clinkz (1116 posts) -

2k+ hours for me back from 2004-2007.

#43 Posted by Dalai (7754 posts) -

Doing the math, that's over 4000 hours per subscriber. I don't know if I believe that number... then again I wouldn't be shocked if that number is accurate.

#44 Posted by CharlesAlanRatliff (5695 posts) -

I haven't played in over a year, but I had over 400 hours in it. That is over the span of two and a half years.

well there have been a lot of people that stopped playing around the world
i wonder how many copies of wow has actually been sold especially since at the moment it has like 11 million subscribers and its been out for 6 years leaving time for many players to play then get tired of it
#46 Posted by Ethan_Raiden (366 posts) -
They only count active subscriptions, so only people that are paying for the game are being counted in Blizzards numbers, I', guessing in total, the number of accounts is a lot more than 11million.
I my self have about 40 days of playtime in wow, starting from back in Feb of 2009. Love the game.
#47 Posted by apoptosis61 (569 posts) -

i have around 500 days played in 1 char , got 3 more chars that atm i dont know how much played they got -.-

#48 Posted by smfE (36 posts) -

I've tributed to a little over 70 days from late 2006-early 2010 with alot of pauses and breaks ofcourse, i only paid for 3 months in 2009 and played for 1 month in 2010.

#49 Posted by Vager (1675 posts) -

I've accumulated around 70 days, over the course of 3 years that I've been playing WoW; with many, many breaks inbetween.

#50 Posted by mau64 (587 posts) -

I kinda wish I would have hopped on WOW when it all began. Me starting now would be way too late to the party. That's a lot of time though.
