On top of being 17-percent smaller and 92.2-percent more attractive, the 360 "S" lacks the hardware's signature and ominous crimson halo of light. This new console's circle of light, which wraps around the power indicator, merely spits out green.  In times of failure, though, the power indicator turns red.

This information stems from an info sheet (below) that Joystiq has obtained, which also reveals that the "S" console will have Kensington Locks, capacitive touch support, and will weigh a tad bit less than its 3.5 kg brothers.

My pre-owned console has done pretty well so far.  I was going to get a PS3 but now I might just get another sex box.

Brad, the Xbox 360 Slim are supposedly more reliable than the other older 360s. This is judging by the increased ventilation and the implementation of the "Valhalla" motherboard. The predecessor "Jasper" has already gotten rid of most of the RROD issues, so Valhalla will most likely cease RRODs from every becoming a plague of a problem.

Surprisingly my launch X360 never red-ringed. My PS3 died after about 6 months though.

GROD works too.

I've had a 360 since late 2006 and it never red ringed. Other stuff on it broke, twice, but it hasn't gone wrong for nearly 3 years.

The best part of that report is that the color white simply won't do for Microsoft. We all had Chill 360s.

The new 360s are going to FLOG to death!

But from what I understand that it won't have the red lights like previous console but display a different error.  So they haven't fix the Red Ring of Death. I think i am going to wait for it to be out on the market before I decide to trade my old one in.

My first gen. 360 died on me last week, so i guessssss i can say it was perfect timing... although i would rather not have to spend another $300 on a new console. i will say however, the 250G hard drive will be a NICE upgrade from the original 20G i am still using.

The yellow light on my PS3 when it died was odd, it wasn't clear what yellow meant.  At least lots of red lets you know it's probably not a good thing.

My launch unit is a ticking time bomb.  it's been sent back twice, is noisy as Hell, and the lack of space on the meager 20 gb hdd makes installing games pretty much impossible if you own any DLC.  Since I didn't want to drop any cash on an overpriced HDD for a system that might blow up again, the small HDD had to do.  At least I was able to finally start using USB drives to install games and still be able to actually keep a few XBLA games on the HDD.  I have a 64 mb memory unit as well, just to store my profile and game saves, again to spare some space on the HDD.  So I will be visiting my local Gamestapo to unload my 360 for a new model.
 
As for no red ring on the unit, I'm pretty sure that was at the top of the list when they designed it, anything to distance themselves from that mess.  I'll miss the "chill" design of the old one, it had a nostalgic feel that systems like the SNES had.  But new consoles need to be like exotic cars these days, all slick and curved.
 
And dude, "Chill" was the name of that color?  That's some J Allard douchebaggery right there.

Can someone explain to me what the advantages of a capacitive power button is?
To me it just seems like one more source of potential hardware-problems and smudgy finger marks.

IIRC, this one only comes with a one year warranty.

My launch 360 has never had a single problem. That being said, I'm trading it in for this new model once my Gamestop gets more in stock.

I thought it would flash red. i remember on the video GB posted; the undercover new Xbox unboxing one, that PR guy said it would flash red if there was an error like that. Hmmm... Hopefully they just won't die on people, my first generation one which I still have has died 3 times on me. I also desperately need a bigger hard drive. 20gb just ain't enough dudududdududer!!!!

New Brad, did you watch the GB unboxing video? Some European guy asked about twelve times what happens when it fails, and they said the green power icon does turn red.

Actually... pretty tempted to get a 360 now (after holding off for this long).

dont know if i will get one of these right away i might wait til kinect releases so i can use the dedicated port for it.

Removing the red leds is one way to fix the the red ring of death. Seriously though now may be the time to replace barely working launch 360 (college dorms can be rough on consoles).

I wish they replaced the red rings with a middle finger

Damn you Microsoft for making a pretty new console even though my current 360 is doing extremely well!
